  1. Chris posted this on a baseball blog. We are reading and commenting on this baseball blog. Does it really need to be said that all prospects can bust? Is there anyone reading this article that doesn't know all minor leaguers might not make it to the bigs? What substance does adding floor:bust at the end of each write up add to the article? We are truly blessed to have this kind of talent in the system. While some are disappointed in Gordon's year or Buxton's showing in the show, I'm not. They are young and developing. Any job takes time to get used. I'mean 30 and I'm still learning on the job.
  2. Isn't this obvious? Does it really need to be said? Did anyone read this article really not know that any minor leaguer's floor could be not making it out of the minor leagues?
  3. I have no idea how what you just wrote has anything to do with Nick's post about Buxton historically starting slow. You ignored that whole part and just focused on the last word. Comparing Buxton to Vargas /Sano only using OPS is kind of unfair dont you think? If we compare Buxton to Vargas/Sano using only defensive value the tables would obviously be turned. Sano/Vargas bring pure power while Buxton brings a better overall package. An elite overall package at that. I dont understand how so many people around here have soured on Buxton over a few at bats in the bigs. This is why we cant have nice things.
  4. Is this a real thread or is this one of those "not joke threads" where the creator just hasn't yelled not yet? Are people really changing their minds after 35 games from a 21 year old who was rushed to the bigs after missing almost all of last year? That's not a thing is it? I'm saying this but people were already writing off Nick Gordon after he struggled to start the year..... My expectations haven't changed at all. Buxton has the tools, the glowing scouting reports, a good head on his shoulders, and outside of his 35 games in the majors has the numbers to justify high expectations. All he needs is time. What type of player will he become? No one knows. That's the fun thing of following prospects.
  5. To add to what you said, he has the 21st best ERA in A+ with only one person ahead of him being younger.
  6. What has been reported by multiple sources. -Kohl was a thrower and not a pitcher when drafted. -The Twins wanted him to focus on his fastball command last year and shelved his slider for a period of time. Not all year. -The Twins have had him focus on his 2-seamer this year. That's what we know. If you want to kill him for his low K rate, justifiable, you also have to give him credit for his impressive GO rate and his overall performance while being 3 years under the average age. K rate, GO rate, and age vs competition are all good indicators for future success. Can't point at one stat and ignore the others just because you don't like Kohl.
  7. Because of 11 games he played in the bigs so far? Otherwise I don't understand what isn't to like. Plays premium position? Check Put up video game numbers while always being young for his age? Check Great measurables? Check Widely praised by scouts? Check Good make-up? Double check The only other knock I can see, which you bring up several times, is health but that is random. Heck, the player you keep saying you wish we trade for d'Arnaud has a significantly longer track record of poor health. This is why we can't have nice things.
  8. We have the #1 prospect in baseball and we have a thread about trading him....makes me feel like we don't deserve him.
  9. Several of these guys you mentioned who were up to AA in their 2nd year were only up for a handful of starts. I wonder if Stewart puts together a few more solid starts if he will be to. If not, starting in AA when 21/3rd year of pro ball is still impressive.
  10. 2013 mlb first round and supplement round HS pitchers: #4 Kohl Stewart: Career era 2.81, innings pitched 217.2, K/9 6.2 In A+ era 3.25, innings pitched 110, K/9 5.1 #7 Trey ball Career era 4.49, innings pitched 218.2, K/9 5.8 In A+ era 4.19, innings pitched 111, K/9 5.4 #10 phillip bickford Didn't sign #22 hunter Harvey Career era 2.89, innings pitched 113, K/9 11.1 In A 3.18, innings pitched 87.2, K/9 10.9 #28 Rob kaminsky Career era 2.22, innings pitched 227, K/9 7.5 In A+ era 2.24, innings pitched 104, K/9 7.2 #33 ian Clarkin Career era 3.60, innings pitched 80, K/9 8.9 In A+ era 1.80, innings pitched 5, K/9 7.2 #35 Matt krook Didn't sign HS pitchers take time. Not everyone can rush through the minors like berrios.
  11. He was 3 years under the average age last year in CR and is 3 years under the average age for FM. He will be 21 next year in AA with pretty good overall numbers outside of K/9 over his short minor league career. People are welcome to write him off, a lot already have, but I will just sit back and watch his development. Heck, some of you were already writing off Gordon because of his slow start. Tough crowd.
  12. Tweets had him topping out at 95 yesterday.
  13. Good read. Stewart is the most polarizing prospect in our minors. Every start seems to generate at least one thread about his K rate. Mike Bernardino tweeted this earlier today: "Official word on Stewart's low K rate is h's been focused on commanding his heavy 2-seamer. Ground ball machine." I love this from Stewart: "I think those bad starts, I've learned more from them than the good ones. I'm trying to take all of that in in order to be the best I can be. It's been up and down. There's about a month left. I'm trying to put together all of the things that I've learned and have a strong last month. I definitely feel I have a lot more composure, both on the field and outside the lines." The minors are for development. Let's not write the kid off already.
  14. Padres haven't done anything yet....something big is coming. Hopefully for the Twins.
  15. From Parker: In the last 2 years, Kevin jepsen's .176 BA vs RHB is 9th lowest among RH relievers. RH in Twins pen currently have worst BA vs RHB (.295).
  16. I'm not as high on Hu as most here. I mostly just don't care for Jespen. If this ends up being a smaller move before a big one I could get behind it.
  17. There it is! TR's "big move" at the deadline.
  18. TR quotes from Mike Bernardino: "I would like to do something. You want to force one or do you want to let it happen and feel good about it?" We'll do one if it makes sense, but we aren't going to do one just to make a trade." You have just as much ability as any other GM to make a trade. How does it not happen every year while other teams have no problem doing it?
  19. I wish I could like this twice. I know I shouldn't expect much from TR during the trade deadline but with every other team making moves I expect something. Reading his comments "I have every intention of trying to improve this club" and "I don't want them thinking a white knight is coming around the corner" really piss me off.
  20. Shields? Can't see it. A 37 year old RPer with solid numbers? Definitely seems like someone TR would trade for.
  21. They need a C, SS, and RPer (or 3) now and in the future. RPing could be handled in the off season but looking at the C and SS FA market they won't be able to upgrade there. I'm fine with trading prospects for players to fill holes if they aren't just rentals. While they cost more they can help now and in the future until the farm produces a replacement.
  22. It is like every other move the Twins make at the trade deadline.... Insignificant.
  23. 1. Buxton 2. Sano 3. Everyone else
  24. I'm glad someone brought up the Capps trade seeing that's the only truly interesting thing the Twins have done at a trade deadline in years. I expect them to move minor parts for other minor parts and call it a day. Same old same old. At least it gives us something to debate instead of working.
  25. Trade for papelbon to give a killer 8th\9th inning combo. Shorten the game like the royals do.
