Ken Rosenthal tweeted: Sources # Reds drawing heavy interest in Chapman as well as cueto. Teams know that CIN needs to cut payroll ~ 17M is the current estimate. This sounds like a perfect trade partner. They have pitching that needs to be traded and we have quantity in cost controlled players.
Molly as the manager, Hunter in RF, Liriano to the mound, Pat in the pen and Baker on a minor league deal. Sounds like a TR off season. I could see it. I'm sure some around here would like it but gross.
When did the Twins become the Dodgers or Yankees and money didn't matter? They mentioned before the off season that they didn't see the payroll increasing much from last year. Signing a player for $10.5M is a big deal financially. Here comes a reclamation quality pitcher.
Needs: Upgrade OF defense Top of the rotation pitching What we do: Sign a player who negatively affects both our needs. Who cares about helping the team win when you can sell more tickets?!?! I just started my 2015 draft boards but I guess I better start looking into the 2016 draft also.
This is exactly how I feel. I don't dislike the hires but it just feels like the team is going through the motions. Hire from within. Ryan says we won't make a big splash in FA because of money. President blames decreasing payroll on fan attendance. Ownership comes out and says they haven't given Ryan a budget and they want to win. Focus on over the hill former twins player with good leadership or reclamation projects. Talk about building from within while not promoting prospects. Don't make any major trades at the trade deadline. Lose 90+ games. I don't dislike the hirings but after 4 horrid years I just wanted something to get excited about. I don't believe anyone thinks the excitement is going to come from FA. These hirings might be the right call but can you really blame fans for being disappointed in how vanilla they are? Especially with the talk about bringing the 39 year old Hunter in for leadership?
Why not use the depth of our farm system AND our extra money to trade for and extend someone? I don't believe anyone is suggesting trading multiple assets for a one year rental if the Twins don't plan on extending them.
That's the problem. They should be willing to move anyone after losing for the 4th season in a row. I would have no problem packaging Santana, Vargas, or Gibson with soon to be ready prospects to get a true impact player. You are right though that they won't which disappoints me.
I really would like the Twins to make a move like the Heyward trade. We have a deep farm system, quantity in the bigs, but lack quality. While I consider myself a prospect guy they just seem to be over valued. I almost always feel the team trading the star gets the better end of the deal now of days (except the shark trade).
Insanely active off season so far. Hopefully Ryan isn't just sitting in the office trying to figure out which former Twin/local coach to add to the coaching staff. Deals are happening!
I guess I'm the only one around these parts that isn't that interested in Tomas. After watching how bad last years outfield defense was I'm not sure I want another, if scouting accounts are accurate, sub par defensive outfielder. I rather them spend 60-70M elsewhere. Maybe that's just me.
I have been thinking the exact same thing. When Monitor was added to the staff last year people immediately started talking about how he will be the next manager. While I don't mind the hirings so far it just seems like we are going through the motions. There is a chance we will have 4 of the 8 coaches from last year back.
You do relies that everyone you named except Buxton (freak) had at least a year of experience in professional ball right? Working with professional coaches in instructional league and getting used to the day to day life of playing everyday. Gordon had to make the jump directly from HS without that luxury. Numbers, especially in the minors, rarely paint an accurate picture. I have Gordon easily as the best SS prospect in the system.
Good lists Seth even if I think you are crazy for putting rogers that high. I know I'm in the minority but I still have Stewart at #3. Best mix of stuff, athleticism, and size. Stewart is the only one out of our top three pitching prospects that profiles as an ace.
A few weeks ago Clint Longenecker answered the question who's in the running to go 1-1 next year for BA's ask BA segment. It is an interesting read. This paragraph sticks out to me: "There is no player currently in the 2015 draft class that the industry considers a “no-doubt 1-1″ pick along the lines of Harper, whom you mentioned. The top of the draft class has a lot of uncertainty, which is not typical at this point in the draft calendar after all of the looks teams have had this summer." http://www.baseballamerica.com/draft/ask-ba-whose-running-go-1-1-next-year/
Things I'm looking for in a new manager: 1. Outside the organization. This franchise needs some fresh blood. 2. Players manager. I don't want to see a bobby valentine fiasco here. 3. Young. 4. Big league manager experience. Any form of it would do. 5. Speaks Spanish 6. Played professional ball. I would prefer big league experience but minor league experience would do. Dave Martinez and mike Maddox would be my preferred targets.
Kiley McDaniel released his way too early draft rankings a few weeks ago. It is a good read for any draft junkie. http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/2015-mlb-draft-top-51/
