  1. Each of the last two years he has hit RH pitchers better than LH pitchers. That's when you want Rosario & Kepler in the lineup.
  2. I don't think this is necessarily the end for DanSan. Stubbs has been released by 4 teams over the last 12 months. On the surface, a minor league deal can't really hurt anyone, but where is he going to play? We don't have enough quality OFs to play for Rochester?
  3. Yes, but there were some saying that he might never be anything at all like what he was once projected. This at least suggests a quality CF.
  4. I like it. Both EE and Polanco hit LH pitchers better than RH pitchers, too. Good idea.
  5. To them it's all about regressing to the mean. Does anyone else think only 3 teams will win >90 games? Or only 2 teams will lose >90 games? Last year 6 teams >90 wins, 7 teams >90 losses. Doesn't occur as much like projections as covering your a**.
  6. Belisle is clearly more highly regarded by Baseball Prospectus than by TD boards!
  7. Good point. I don't know. He only pitched 22.1 innings last year (in MLB). He pitched 102 innings in 2013 and then 187 innings in 2015. Maybe they blew out his arm.
  8. Henderson Alvarez is projected by FanGraphs to have a 3.91 FIP this year. His ERA last season was 6.45 in spite of his FIP being 3.85. His WHIP and SO/9 were terrible. He's 26 years old. Was 2016 an off year for him or has he already lost it?
  9. I suspect that with Greene it will be all about his secondary pitches, which he really doesn't need in HS. If he wants be drafted #1 he is going to have to display his entire arsenal. If the secondary pitches look good I will be interested to see the reviews. I expect the word 'rave' to apply.
  10. Then you'd have to factor in the pitching. "How many runs did the pitchers give up in Target Field in 2010?, 2011?, 2012?..." And for each team. Otherwise the talent on the pitching staff would have everything to do with how many runs the Giants scored in Target Field, especially as the Giants have a SSS in Target Field. Lots of variables.
  11. Wow. Prior to last season there were some pretty positive projections for him. Top KBO players have mostly acquitted themselves well in MLB. This really has me puzzled. Not even interested in how he responds with a healthy wrist? If true I suspect he'll just go back to Korea and cash the checks.
  12. To see a prospect step out of college and immediately do well in class A ball is encouraging. Good luck to him!
  13. 2016 Twins per FanGraphs: Fielding.................29th of 30 Batting..................25th of 30 Pitching (starters)...26th of 30 Pitching (relief).......23rd of 30 So, two things: 1. You are right 2. Our bullpen was the highlight of the team last year
  14. So... he's all these things and still better than Kyle Gibson. I agree with you, and that's why I think the FO will be looking for an upgrade within the organization if Santiago or Gibson don't show better results this year.
  15. Even with his terrible start with the Twins Santiago had a better 2016 (all in the AL) than his slightly older teammate Kyle Gibson. I expect both of them to be on a short leash this year. If Either or both are pitching poorly we need to find out if the younger guys can make it work in MLB. No more hanging on to guys for seemingly no more reason than the have seniority and the are 'adequate'.
  16. Haha. That was pretty good, I knew it was bad, but I had to look it up to see he had 12 SB and was caught stealing 9 times.
  17. I would be very surprised. I think if you go into the playoffs with a 3rd catcher that is an interesting move. If you try to play through a season with 3 catchers it would limit your bench too severely.
  18. I think it would be very valuable to have an emergency catcher on the 25-man roster. It would have to be someone who could play other positions and could actually hit. Cesar Tovar used to be the emergency catcher for the Twins and he actually caught. I was told he would catch a couple of ST games each year so, if needed, he wasn't too terribly raw, but I have no first hand knowledge of this. (i.e. the guy who told me that story has a tendency to make things up)
  19. I believe Santiago and Gibson will both be on a short leash. Gibson has yet to really click and Santiago, while a little younger with more MLB experience and success, does not appear to be more than a back of the rotation starter. In fact looking at his peripherals, his best days may be behind him. I would be fine with either being moved to the bullpen if they falter and give someone else a chance as a SP. (Mejia, Hughes, Duffey, etc.)
  20. In 2013 Austin Malinowski had a 1.091 WHIP with 9.6 SO/9 as a 20 year old. Sure it was rookie ball, but it was only his second year. How could he ‘retire’? Can we get him to join the Lookouts? Even if he likes the Pats.
  21. As usual, I appreciate how your points are well stated. On the other hand... Obviously many are not as certain that Park won't get claimed. Some of the folks at FanGraphs seem to believe he would be a good pickup. And I'm not really sure I've read much about a logjam at 1B/DH. No one expects Mauer to play every day and Vargas is an excellent choice to share time with Mauer as his numbers against LHP have begun to fall. To say nothing of injury. Grossman as a DH against LHP? Maybe, but both Kepler and Rosario have rather poor splits against LHP, so you'd think Robbie would play the OF in those cases (*shudder*). The truly frustrating part, I believe, is this: there is just no way one can look at any of the stats and say DanSan has a higher upside. This was along the lines of a Terry Ryan move where you keep the 'higher floor'. It both protects you from very worst outcome and, to a large extent, the very best outcomes.
  22. How Will Derek Falvey Improve Twins Pitching? Apparently by signing NL older relief pitchers to one year contracts to pitch the all-important 7th inning on a non-contending team.
  23. That number is where it is because we can only LIKE something once.
  24. In 2015 DanSan was rated by Fangraphs as the 300th best player of 316 with the number of at bats Santana had. In 2016 he was 307th of 311. I would have thought the Twins would have used Belilse as an excuse to DFA DanSan. Park, a 1B/DH who, when healthy, hits RH pitching as well as LH pitching. I just don't get it. Perhaps his injury is not healing or is worse than we were led to believe.
  25. I've never more hoped you were wrong about anything than this.
