  1. Does your spidey sense tell you if the Twins will live to regret the departure of one (or more) of the Anthonys?
  2. Agreed, except- Kevin Correia struggles to keep any type of job at the major league level, unless the Padres come calling again...
  3. For the umpteenth time, why hasn't someone on the Tampa Bay staff been hired away? Apparently too much culture clash and possible computer-sharing down-time taken away from the grey-haired guys upstairs at One Twins Way playing PacMan, Donkey Kong and Pete Rose Baseball on their Atari 2600s and Colecovision.
  4. Who said anything about "only" stocking the farm system? Get better players to improve areas of weakness, by being smart and trading guys at peak value in career years for prospects and/or immediate help***- AND through FA acquisition with all of the supposed new-found, "50% of revenues" and $114M "payroll flexibility" that Target Field afforded them. ***See- "Tampa Bay Rays"
  5. This is the safest prediction for April Twins expectations, except, to make it a more interesting BET, there should be an over/under attached for HOW MANY arms go "Full Maloney".
  6. No, you don't have have to be in constant rebuild mode, to put a fine point to how it is done by the Rays- constant reload mode. And I do fault their offseason considerations sinde 2010, especially starting out in a brand new ballpark.
  7. No, it's not the point to put an unknown out there- but to remain a "competitive team" as a mid-market franchise, you constantly have to be reloading from one of your few areas of strength- as you are at distinct disadvantages in: 1) luring the top free agents, 2) flexibility to expand the payroll as your core top players look to re-up, and 3) being repeatedly hampered by unfavorable draft position as a perenially winning team.
  8. Spot on X Deux, Mr Brooks.
  9. Yes, and Yes!
  10. Sano and Vargas as the future corner IFs? I think we need to ask Seth what the "Tigerbeat" version of the Tigers 1B/3B lineup has been like at Beloit and the Rookie Leagues...
  11. Breaking news from the pulse of the Twins, LEN3- just posted at 8PM!: Sports Oh wait, nevermind.../S
  12. Good news, if/when confirmed on Twins' website (what's the hold-up?). Hopefully, this is the philosophical turning of the page away from the recent past, and we can soon make way for the in-season arrival of Arcia and Gibson.
  13. Hold on there! While this is the pretty obvious move, many things aren't always what they seem in Twinsland. Gardy chimes in on the "controversy", from the article: Both have the official Gardy annointment with pet names, but who gets mentioned last- and can do this"right now"?
  14. Pelfrey seems like a good guy and a real gamer, but it's becoming hard to see who was fooling themselves more in beating the statistical reality of the comeback timetable from TJ surgery- Pelfrey?- or the Twins FO?
  15. And at a higher "acceptable standard" set for Correia of 4-5 runs per 5-6 innings, so there's that! (oh wait, this was in a B game...)
  16. This from the guy who 10 months ago had this to say about the new CBA:
  17. Sorry to step on your quite accurate characterization, just working my way down the comment list.
  18. The only thing worse than a player's agent lawyer is a drama queen player's agent lawyer. So was that Boras who put words into Latrell Sprewell's mouth?
  19. It makes me sad that the Twins over-value so many below-replacement-level players enough to guarantee them scholarshipped roster spots.
  20. It may be nothing, but might there be some significance in the Twins FO supplying Brian Dozier and Mastro as the "voices and faces" of the Twins for in-game half-inning-long interviews against the Yankees last night? ("Get to Know Em!")
  21. I will agree with you that the depth situation may improve. Young arms develop and we have more coaching impact from new sources in Cuellar and Steinbach. And I wouldn't mind one bit if they fast-track the next set of prospect arms to the majors, especially if we are all settled on the road to 95-100 losses by the end of May, anyway. On your second point, we agree that they are going to probably suck, moving the SP ERA down from an abominable 5.40 in 2012 to say, just an awful 4.80-5.00 might be marginally "better" and more realistic than to assert the staff will be "much better" without much supporting evidence to assert such a claim.
  22. There's been an outbreak of that going on lately: http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/chuckandbeans_5821.jpg
  23. Seems to me the standard that Ryan has to meet has been set on the financial side, not the W-L record, so until the latter significantly impacts the former, the heat Ryan feels from the furnace will probably remain on auto-pilot.
  24. Holy Set of Expectations Whiplash! Can you square the circle(-ular argument) for me, against your previous quote: Or this: 1) Please help me out, are you saying that "we'll suck" is indicative of a mockworthy "rationalization" or simply "definitionally unreasonable"? 2) Are we all supposed to rally around the "baseline of mediocrity" and sit more comfortably in our "safety net" hammock because we've added two more fibers to the twine holding it up in the trees?- because if, as you say, we're going to "suck" anyways, the net is going to come crashing down, regardless.
  25. But, but,...attempting to acquire a more decent player than Correia? (which in the real world shouldn't be all that difficult)...that would really mean they would have to try and sneak some other "valuable" asset off the 40-man roster.. so no, too risky...let's just settle overpaying for the mediocrities we already have.../sarc
