  1. Wait, did I miss the news about the White Sox just trading Marcus Semien for Fuld?
  2. If the Twins were truly irrational, they'd already have extended Correia.
  3. I was kind-of hoping they would have dopped on a sparkly layer of lipstick, with Robert Palmer popping out from stage left, and gone all-in on an orchestral arrangement of "Simply Irresistible".
  4. And all based on early season, arm-protecting stretching out. I like that Gardy was backing his play in Spring Training. If there isn't an obvious spot open yet, why not put him in the pen to get his feet wet?
  5. Again, I never said that Meyer has the same hype as Strasburg. But you said that no players ever make a difference in attendance- no exceptions, not me. While I sincerely doubt that Meyer is capable of a Strasburg-like sellout, there are more than enough fans familiar with the trade for Span and the constant marketing that Meyer has received on FSN and through the local media that they are aware that they potentially have something special in Meyer. Going from what appears to be the "new normal" range in attendance of 20,000-30,000 to say, 25,000-35,000, around a 20-25% increase, is entirely plausible. Are you saying that there aren't 5000-6000 willing ticket buyers curious enough, and familiar enough with Meyer's history, to see what we've got in our new potential Ace?
  6. Mejia just got demoted in favor of Pettersen. I don't think Florimon would have any trouble beating him out for time at SS in New Britain.
  7. Is PDQ Bach still performing?
  8. The Twins stuck with Marquis until May 28. I don't think they will wait this long to make a move or moves this time around.
  9. Yes, Buxton and Sano are on an entirely different level hype-wise. Did anyone say different? I know I didn't. But when you have a bad starting corps and a 6'9" MLB Top 30 guy that can bring it at 99MPH and who likely will be tearing it up in Rochester and getting more Will Middlebrooks-quote type of hype, he's going to sell extra tickets if the consumer has the choice of attending a game with either Pelfrey, Correia or Meyer as the pitching options- I know I'm going if I am available to do so. Oh, another piece of evidence why this supposition is correct from more recent times. Steven Strasburg drew nearly 41000 on a Tuesday night for his major league debut. The game before on Sunday afternoon, the Nats drew 27,200. The Wednesday evening following, the Nats drew 18,800.
  10. I'm hoping that 6 isn't true. If the Twins are really committed to winning this year as they've been indicating, it would be foolish to hold Meyer back until say, July- and that's probably what it's going to take for Correia to build up any value in trade.
  11. The Twins are not signing Drew, and Bernier is not on the roster. Unless Nunez's arm falls off, he will be getting the call as soon as he's healthy.
  12. I haven't forgotten about Gibson, at all. He came in post TJ as pretty much a forgotten man to the average fan, with very little ballyhoo attached. Plus, the Twins were still drawing in summer games based on the ballpark alone. As we've seen this year, the novelty of the park has worn off to the point that the crowds in April resemble many Metrodome and Met actual attendance figure (not tickets sold). Meyer, Buxton and Sano will all have a positive effect on attendance initially- simply based on the fact that there are now around a potential 50% worth of walk-up sales- the numbers you cited from last season were based on almost all of those tickets having been sold during the 2012-13 offseason when it made absolutely no difference to the ticket buyer who was playing.
  13. It appears that there is a full commitment, forget the rebuild, to try to do whatever it takes, come hell or high water, to make a run at .500 in 2014. (And in this case, if Brooks Raley is the one moved, no one should shed a tear). And it can work out to the benefit of the rebuild if the Twins cut bait on a non-performing starter and bring up Meyer sooner rather than later (barring a trade or DFA, he'll have to replace someone like Kenny on the 40-man.). Early on, I kind-of figured that Meyer wouldn't come up until Correia was moved, now I'm more optimistic that it could happen before then.
  14. Hopefully, Cameron will have more crow to chew on quite soon....remember this ditty from a year ago? [h=2]Nationals Steal Denard Span From Twins[/h]
  15. If Arcia continues in the manner with which he was playing before his injury, he won't be around long enough to mess up Pinto's PAs, he'll be back in Roc. In contrast, you underestimate Willingham's strong ability to get on base, a career .360 OBP. His usually high BB% was even better before he broke his wrist, a career high 17.4%. And he also has a high HBP rate, Willingham gets what the Twins are trying to do this year as a team, it's been part of his career MO.
  16. This is markedly not true. How soon we forget, even the Twins have gone down this road before http://twinsdaily.com/content.php/1285-Straight-from-ASU-to-the-Met: Eddie, we hardly knew ye.....yet your brother we do know, is the CEO of Trader Joe's. http://assets.sbnation.com/assets/369764/Eddie_Bane.jpg
  17. Upcoming home games 4 starts out. This is the closest upcoming time in which he can get 2 starts in, during one homestand, and falls closely to his current schedule: May 13, Tuesday night vs. Red Sox May 18, Sunday afternoon vs. Mariners
  18. I understand all of the details surrounding him from last year and the consent issues regarding his remaining option. But knowing all of this, and given the faith and the limb the Twins went out on, to sign him initially, and then to re-sign him, the onus is kind-of on Pelfrey to "make this right", because clearly, something is not right with him currently. His velocity is down and the Twins will simply will have to do something drastic, ie, DL, bullpen, etc., if the current pattern repeats itself much longer.
  19. This is pretty much right, although I think they have their strong doubts about either becoming the full-time guy at SS. Pelfrey could repeat a trip to the minors like last year- clearly there's something wrong with him- which opens up a spot in the rotation. SPs are dropping like flies around baseball, is there a Doumit-like trade out there to move Correia back to the NL? On the SS front, Arizona is floundering and may well be willing to settle for prospects in a trade for Gregorius.
  20. I'm not so sure about this. For the first time since forever, Gardy and the front office have been publicly forthcoming and proactive in declaring that necessary moves will be made- they're in win-now mode. I could easily forsee another trade to acquire a SS still in the offing (Didi, Franklin?).
  21. 1) How do you figure this? It seems inevitable that they both get sent down, but they both have options left, would they really take Florimon off the 40-man, doesn't seem likely with the limited SS depth. 2) Guerrier has a May 8th deadline to be called up, but has yet to be placed on the roster. I would guess that Raley and/or Wilson will be attempted to sneak through waivers, opening up a spot for Guerrier . 3) Pelfrey went down to the minors last year, he can go down again this year to right himself again with a remaining option or a DL rehab, if he agrees to it.
  22. Yes.... but to be fair to the Morris legacy, do we reeallee "know" if that guy on the postgame show making those proclamations is Jack or not? Or just Jamie's favorite Uncle Remo in cheap disguise looking for a temp gig? http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/71ETWWLcVsL._SL1500_.jpg
  23. Bingo, Mike. How excited would we really be.....and how good would this team look right now with the addition of some combination (pick 2) of Drew, Bonifacio, Sizemore and Abreu also on the roster? And Ervin Santana in the rotation at 3/$36M instead of Pelfrey?
  24. Or, maybe with just the addition of a couple more Free Agents, and the Marlins will add a couple more World Series wins to the 2 they already have, over the next 6 years. The club has a rich history, unlike the Twins, of going all in when they think the time is right. How many World Series championships do the Twins have since 1997 again? The team you disparage, with much less going for it financially, has 2. And given their current talented core and more coming in their pipeline, they'll likely have 2 more before the Twins get their next one. Seems just as plausible a scenario as the one you lay out.
  25. No matter, stringer. Nolasco is going 8 today.
