  1. And good timing on the very night that the Twins say to Pelfrey and Hicks: "So long, farewell, auf widersehen, good night....."
  2. Actually my wish is for bench bat(s)..... (when someone finally explains to Gardy the intricracies about how to carry your 13th pitcher on the Rochester roster). Florimon and....Hicks.....ideally replaced by Arcia, who hits the ground running...but his return is highly problematic, and Gardy doesn't sound that optimistic. How about claiming Moises Sierra until Arcia is ready? He has played a little CF in the minors and had a little pop in his bat in 2013. Nunez appears to have fallen off the face of the Earth. We can only hope that the Twins are calling around looking to make a deal to put someone's AAA SS guy into the Twins starting lineup.
  3. 1) Exactly what I've argued all along////. And then the Yankees proved me utterly wrong by making a star and folk hero out of Yangervis Solarte. 2) At this point, I'm wondering if the Bartlett Guy is somehow related to the Nishi Guy....lots of Uncalled calling to accounts in this organization- and not enough rope.
  4. The Mauer thing was a throwaway for the unwashed masses. And you and I are both now on the record for noting that vast regression is already underway teamwide- it's fair to predict that most of the current high OBP guys will be at or below their career norms by June 1 (hence the perfect time in GardyWorld to reduce the roster to 11 position players, I guess, but that's a corollary topic). This includes Dozier, who as much as I am on his bandwagon, is likely to regress closer to his .304 career OBP, than his current .357 OBP. You certainly have to admit that Dozier is a less than ideal top-of-the-order guy, whether you buy into traditional leadoff expectations or not.
  5. Hurts so good:banghead: Possibly a "chemistry" major, as well?
  6. Yes. And the "terrific corner OF! label" for Hermann didn't even make it to the freshness expiration date. It's hard to see how someone who pieced this together was once Manager of the Year. I guess they punted on makng a decision on Pelfrey, then (this was supposed to be Decision Day)? Wouldn't the logical move have been to DL Pelfrey and replace him with Darnell, since even if you wanted Pelfrey to ptich, he's unavailable until Tuesday at the earliest? Down to just two potential positional moves available for the next few days.....preposterous.
  7. Yep. And Hughes will remain #! until Meyer can get himself called up and then established. And Deduno is highly unlikely to ever stay healthy, which makes him difficult, or even a waste the time to rank.
  8. If only we had just one of those besides Joe Mauer. And whither all the arguments that Mauer gets no respect because of his lackluster run production?- it's directly related to both low OBP and lack of speed guys at both the bottom of the order and the top of the order.
  9. What? 2 seasons now. Still no competent leadoff man, all the way down to AA. Still no quality OF depth. Going into 2014 with an Epically Proportioned Failed 2013 CF (who refused management's wishes to go to winter ball) and a 34-year-old, out of baseball for the past 2 years, who had never played the position was the back-up (and not to forget, "Team Chemist"- guess our depth is deficient at that spot now, too). That qualifies in my book as both incompetence and mismanagement.
  10. Was Presley a leadoff hitter candidate? Was Presley the baserunner that Bonifacio is? Was Presley the Super Util that could play a decent 2nd and 3rd base, as well as a fairly good CF? Regarding Sizemore, I was one who loudly suggested the Twins make an offer once it was announced he was coming back, should he prove to be healthy. It was the perfect, Kubel-type, buy-low with no risk move. Only his cost was much lower to buy into than Kubel is.
  11. Eric Komatsu and Clete Thomas say "Hi". This whole 25th man argument redux....yeesh.....who you hire for your 24th/25th man can be better than just these types on the fringes of baseball- if only you just plan this out and prioritize a little better. Instead we got from management: "Oh well, we struck out on Rajai....we'll try harder next time." And given the Twins current depth chart in CF, going all the way down to AA, the evidence indicates that the Twins have not only failed at bolstering this position from the day the traded Span and Revere.....they've somehow gone backwards in terms of depthbuilding.
  12. And both positions are from where you frequently derive leadoff man candidates, of which the Twins still have none, and nor do their AAA and AA teams, until Buxton gets called up from Ft. Myers.
  13. Since the Twins dealt for Presley last season, you would think that they had done due diligence on Presley's background throughout the 2013 season. This rationale on Presley's suddenly discovered alleged lack of character really doesn't add up.
  14. Thanks for blowing up the standard line about Hicks' status as a hindrance to upgrading the position. Brock, you're just too forgiving of the Twns on this point. Grady Sizemore has been quoted as saying the Twins never even contacted him. Bonifacio had no say in the matter on getting claimed and/or traded for. And the Twins aren't exactly known for rushing 20-year olds, no matter how good they project to be. It seems pretty clear that once they got past striking out on Davis, that they had promised Bartlett a spot and didn't even consider any other option that happened along, they even cut Jermaine Mitchell outright, to clear the depth decks even more. "Baffling", indeed.
  15. "Doubling Down" is I believe what it's called. They did this on Hicks, they did this on Florimon, and they did this on Pelfrey (and although I was opposed to signing Pelfrey, I admit I accepted the Twins rationale for signing him once they struck out on Garza).
  16. Methinks you are being far too kind. In the hierarchy of business misteps, a mistake is when you forget to bring the paperwork to a deal, this Bartlett affair, with other options dangling themselves into March, more rightly qualifies as a "myopic blunder" in my book.
  17. When, in the Universe of Twins Fandom, both the biggest softies (like YOU) and biggest SOBs (like ME) agree on something, it's probably as certain a Certitude of Twins Truthiness as their could possibly be. Now....go take a hike...(I myself pace the floor every time the Cubs and Twins are on at the same time. My set has an alert system for every time Bonifacio gets another hit, protecting it from me throwing another shoe through the screen.)
  18. I take small victories where ever we can get them. Not many profiles in courage in the local media crew. This article was pretty uncharacteristicalllly openly mocking of a series of poor decisions on behalf of the Twins.
  19. Must be a Wichita State thing....?
  20. Gardy is clearly a baseball trend-setter.....
  21. Maybe.....but tied in with the CF/SS situation is the fact that their isn't one legitimate leadoff man on the 40-man roster. This situation of the last 2 years, in totality, borders on malfeasance.
  22. And maybe even if he doesn't.....as Levi said, last night's misadventure in CF was just his latest folly.
  23. There were inexpensive offseason ML acquisition options-as we've well-documented on TD- at little cost to acquire and then pay for their services. The Twins failed to even consider that- given what a disaster CF turned out to be in 2013- that in 2014 a combination of Hicks (or Presley?)/Bartlett was the solution.
  24. Excited for Darnell. But he was really only the best available option. A good logical move by the Twins, but likely could be useless after tonight if we get another short start from the SP staff (this time Nolasco), which could mean someone else would need to be called up as early as Saturday. (Although, I think Gardy went a little drama queen last night claiming the bullpen was "completely wiped out". Gardy, you just had 3 days off!..... and a majority of these RP guys went an inning or less on Wednesday and/or Thursday...Fien and Thielbar, for sure).
