  1. Yep. Plus, if you give Parmelee a chance, you have the opportunity to showcase him to potential suitors in search of cheap in-season help at 1st base to possibly engineer a trade. Or he sticks with the Twins and then there are others on the roster (like Colabello) who could be sent down. Or conversely, if Parm falls flat on his face, repeat the DFA process back to Rochester. Why do they insist on shooting themselves in the foot with these short benches and sub-standard players like Hermann in the lineup?
  2. I have to think that the Twins will make their move today or tomorrow- the Wings are just 2 hours down the road at Columbus- they likely kept Darnell around solely in the mop up role for Deduno's first start. It's arguable that 13 pitchers and 3 "catchers" cost them a chance to beat a struggling Indians squad last night- and made the job tougher in the 1-0 win on Monday night. After Mauer went down on Sunday, and coming off of 3 good starts from the rotation against the Orioles- they could have had sent down an excess pitcher and Hermann and added 2 more bats on the roster- at the cost of only needing to add one player to the 40-man- Parmelee and Vargas.
  3. Both Raley and Wilson are on the roster because of the teams' somewhat futile need to retaliate against the Cubs and Blue Jays for claiming Twins' DFAd players. Both are in their 7th years in the minors and appear to offer little more than roster filler, clearly some of the deadwood that Chief alluded to.
  4. I looked at the link, what you posted was all there was to the exchange...... and it appeared that Klaw presumed a lot from the question that wasn't necessarily contained within the body of that question. And no one is basing their estimation of Meyer's major league readiness on 5 weeks of baseball. Besides an actual major leaguer's endorsement of Meyer's stuff ( from Will Middlebrooks....as opposed to Klaw's hitting credentials?)...... ZiPS projections sees him at pitching at a level that would make him the Twins 2nd best starter. Gausman's ZiPS numbers would make him currently tied for the 3rd best Orioles starter.
  5. Santana in his 1st start. Mauer in his 2nd day on the bench. Eddie at 3rd. That's just how I roll.
  6. Taken out of context? Deliberately obtuse? I don't think anyone except "Mayday Malone" believes that Gausman or Meyer are going to come to the majors and perform at their peak level right away. And given Klaw's usual flippancy, I doubt that he believes "Mayday Malone" believes it, either. The Twins are currently 29th in SP ERA @5.32, the Orioles are 25th @4.45. Both Gausman and Meyer offer potential upgrades to the overall SP ERA averages, even performing well below their peak performance levels, and they offer the bonus potential to perform much better than that.
  7. Combine those scary swing stats with a complete collapse in GB% last night- which was only 28%, versus over 50% on the season. There isn't enough smoke and mirrors in an entire 3-ring circus to cover those hard realities for long- but there are guys who survive and prosper with a high-wire pitching act for years and years- maybe Gibby will turn out to be one of them.
  8. Is it the inconsistency with his sinker that has hitters off-balance? Gibson varies from game-to-game from generally "wild high" to "wild low". And the Blackburn 2.0 scenario is a scary thought.....and what exactly was your prediction for Gibby?
  9. The kind of improvement that might come from insertion into the rotation of a certain Big Unit?
  10. It was Antony that talked about the "intensity" contrast in Rochester vs. Minnesota. That invites all of the sympathetic responses- folks are simply used to the slow-play from the Twins and assume that that's how it's done most everywhere else- which is just not the case. Having said that, I fully agree with your points- my admonitions are around the idea that the Twins promote him sooner rather than later- not "Yesterday!" I remain hopeful that Antony's comments are not indicative of a 2015 debut. He's going to have used up close to half of his allotted innings by June 1. That won't leave many starting opportunities with the Twins- in which case, I'm fine with Gardy's ST suggestion of bringing up Meyer to throw out of the pen- not a bad way to get your feet wet in the majors.
  11. Brock demonstrating his mastery of the Glib Understatement? We are currently on unfamiliar ground, in uncharted waters, soaring above over the rainbow territory with our current pitching situation.......4 QS. In. A. Row. 6 games in May and a Starter ERA of 2.63.
  12. Exactly right. Well-stated. I don't get the gentle flower/china doll/babe in the forest syndrome. The only argument that holds sway in holding him back is his 6'9" stature and the inconsistent mechanics that come from it- possibly leading to potential inconsistencies and health concerns. The Twins were right to shut Meyer down last year- but all reports indicate that it was only a minor shoulder irritation- and Meyer hit the ground running once he returned and he has never looked back, continuing his upward developmental trajectory arc this spring. He apparently was struggling with his delivery of the circle change- again, possibly because of his height, and quickly developed an alternate effective 3rd pitch...........This is the kind of adjustment that a major league-level pitcher makes.
  13. It ain't easy trying to keep up with the guy in fearsome bunny shoes....
  14. My go-to position is to always trust Dozier's decision process, the guy seems to have uncanny baseball instincts.
  15. But then...what would we have to argue about?
  16. Is there any rule that says the first straw and the last straw can't simultaneously exist in one universe?
  17. Now you're just piling on. Give Mike some space for digesting one hypocrisy at a time.
  18. You mean those half dozen/game routine OFer flyout catches 10 feet in front of the warning track? Oh, the drama...
  19. Thanks for taking a principled stand.....
  20. I am greatly encouraged with May as well, his peripheral improvements jump off the page. But his path to major league prominence as a starting pitcher isn't nearly as certain as Meyer's is. And May's developmental progression has been like clockwork- to take 2 years per level to ultimately master (or at least make himself promotable from) that level- which gives me pause that he will end up proving to be effective at the Major League level in 2014.
  21. I have a feeling before long Danny S is going to become a big fan of this guy: http://cdn.antiquiet.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/02/Beck_H_1112.jpg "And my time with the Twins is a piece of wax--> falling on a termite...... .....who's choking on the Splinters...."
  22. I can only say "Good News", as this might mean that Antony wasn't serious when he told Berardino that he didn't forsee promoting Meyer any time soon, or maybe at all this year.
  23. Yup.....that's essentially all I've been saying ever since the Twins received a taxpayer-paid stadium- which inflated the team's value by somewhere between double and triple its previous value.....and then promptly started to strip the team of its major leaguers, a process that is still leaving 2 huge holes at critical positions in its roster.
  24. I was holding out hope for seeing Meyer hit the ZiPS projections of 21 starts and 101 innings, especially now that we know the innings limitation has been more strictly defined to be in the 150-160 range. At this point, and partly based on the Antony comments and the kid glove treatment, I think we'll be lucky to see him get 10 starts/60 innings, seems unlikely unless lots of things go right, and wrong.
