  1. Terry Ryan is definitely not clueless. But it would be best for the club to move on, perhaps offer Ryan an executive position that played to his strengths- an emphasis on prospect talent assessment, and hire someone younger at the GM helm, someone who fits the current era of MLB better. I believe Terry Ryan himself recognized that the game had passed him by,when nearly EIGHT years ago, he said it best at his own resignation press conference:
  2. I'll be in Chattanooga the first weekend in May, sure hoping that Berrios lines up for a Saturday or Sunday start (fingers crossed).
  3. Dexter Fowler was available in trade, reasonably, twice.
  4. Don't bother, they're here...
  5. Based on some of those meatballs that Boyer served up today, I find it unreasonable to expect no more than 6 innings from the starting pitchers.
  6. Besides practically everything else in your post being inaccurate, while it is accurate about May, who DOES turn 26 in September, but it is inaccurate about Meyer, who doesn't turn 26 until early in 2016.
  7. Once Molly announced that Santana was his SS, it was clear that this was going to be another rebuilding year. Rosario is likely to get regular time in CF before Santana is put back out there.
  8. Based on early results thus far at the major league level, maybe you'll see your projected results over the course of 4-6 weeks.
  9. I hear former team chemist Jason Bartlett is still "Breaking Bad" down in Florida... Better Call... aw, nevermind...
  10. Easily the threadwinner (and Smith came highly recommended by his "genius" predecessor). Edit: sorry to steal your thunder, Jimmer, typing while you were posting.
  11. Completely wrong example. Apples and Oranges. Shaun Marcum was exactly the type of gambling on Free Agent signings that a rebuilding team should do. Sign them on one-year deals for cheap, with the hope of flipping them for prospects if they pan out, or possibly getting a compensatory draft pick after a QO is declined.. And then you don't leave yourself saddled with multiple anchors of contract blocking mediocrity, in the cases of Correia, Pelfrey, Nolasco, et al.
  12. Another excellent report. Did you get a chance to see Gonsalves air out his best FB from the game, or from previously this spring and note the velocity? Also, have you been witness to Stewart's velocity and the effectiveness of his slider? Finally, since you have contributed so many excellent reports, do you have one more in your reporter's kit to decipher the Brandon Peterson Puzzle- the reason for his ridiculously high K rates and yet seemingly low-regard from the coaching staff and management? (Peterson is from Savage, MN).
  13. You might have missed it, but the TV announcers spent a great deal of time early in the broadcast giving Molitor's rationale for starting Schafer and Arcia- Opening Day is about recognition of who earned the starting jobs, not the day to employ platoon strategies- again, according to the new manager (of course, Escobar also "earned" a spot, but that's a different thread...).
  14. The umpire's union is strong.
  15. All well and good. But he's still universally acknowledged as one of the worst umpires, year-in, year-out. Bad enough for missing and botching important calls- which has happened in practically every single game that I've ever seen him perform his duties- .... but especially for the worst thing an umpire can do- making his own ego-gratification more important than the game itself.
  16. I get the idea of a fully-monitored developmental plan, but there's no sense in babying this kid. this is a projected high-level (Texas A&M) quarterback, not a late bloomer physically who needs his hand held. Let's see what he can handle in terms of both workload and level of competition this season (I'm assuming we'll see them shoot for a 50% jump in innings), before we set restrictions on him for next season.
  17. I'm not surprised about the Reed jump, kudos to the Twins for the double promotion for Reed. But how about Indy-League refugee, DJ Johnson over Peterson? Is there even a TD write-up on Peterson somewhere? There must be reasons why he isn't in more favor with the staff. Despite the career 13.2 K/9, something obviously doesn't translate at this point to convince the braintrust to fast-track him along with the bigger names, and apparently, even some of the lesser names.
  18. I counted 28 players, it looks like maybe two catchers and one pitcher too many. Any idea who is on the short list for DFA and DL or Demotion lists?
  19. No excuse for Hunter, but Joe West has built up a lot of bad will among players and managers over the years, and frankly, is an embarrassment to baseball.
  20. Where did you get this information? Here is the Rochester Red Wing "official" version of their 2015 rotation: It sure looks like Wheeler is the 2015 heir-apparent Darnell/Johnson call-up designee based on this press release, as he too is on the 40-man roster. And who knows what has been promised to Hamburger for doing all of the roster-filling dirty work, should a roster spot become available. No mention of Berrios or Peavey in the Red Wing pen, either, just the usual suspects. (Did I learn something new while looking this up? Ervin Santana is on the restricted list, but apparently still occupies a 40-man spot?)
  21. You won't find any evidence if they do or don't, as they would hire an investigative agency to do the leg work and approved proposed methodologies for seeking information would remain confidential. In the cases of Bonds, A-Rod, Clemens and some other frontline players, I'm fairly certain detectives were hired once the League came under fire for having looked the other way throughout the 90s, by some entity, be it a team or teams, or the League, in addition to legal authorities. And I would bet that the target's trash was searched. Yes, the Twins did get screwed, but I challenge you to demonstrate that Ervin Santana is some sort of "evil mastermind", this is also on the Twins for failing to heed the very basis and cornerstone of high-risk finance- Caveat Emptor.
  22. Berrios pitched 14 more innings than Stewart at age 19 at the same level, but Stewart pitched better than Berrios. Berrios pitched 140 innings at age 20 through 3 levels, there's no reason to hold Stewart back at Ft Myers all season if he continues to perform at Berrios' level to this point or better, even if he doesn't reach 140 innings. He was drafted as a potential elite #1 or #2 pitcher, there's no innings-restriction-related reason to delay him one full season if he proves he is ready to debut some time in the second half of 2016- presuming that things continue to go well for him- after repeating some AA and perhaps a few starts at AAA. Obviously, the strikeout rate is going to have to jump significantly, but this year will tell us if he's on track in that regard. Success at missing more bats this year might even give the Twins the impetus to jettison one or more of the non-performing blocking veterans earlier than envisioned (at this point, likely to be Nolasco).
  23. Barring someone doing a Hicks MLB debut-like performance, agreed.
  24. Just a picture of Tony Gwynn after his facial surgery for cancer should be enough incentive.
  25. Rochester's first game is with Buffalo on Thursday.
