  1. I read somewhere that Pohland's daughter and Molitor's daughter had a business together or worked together, that could have been a real factor in this decision. If this is actually the case, it is a big whiff by the reporters at the Star Tribune and the Pioneer Press.
  2. Maybe we need to move Gonsalves to Rochester and put him on the fast track.
  3. To me this looks like Pohlad picked Molitor over TR. That would be a horrible decision. Would not be surprised if TR wanted to fire Molitor and was fired instead.
  4. Problem has been that white collar crime got very little, still 4 years and loss of career is a lot. Hope the Cardinals are penalized big time for this. May not have been blessed by the organization, but they probably still used the information gained by this individual.
  5. Nice writeup Seth. I hope the Twins having made this change, go outside the orgainization for the next GM. I also am a believer in things could be much worse if the Twins pick the wrong person, Witness Seatle. Trying to fill the seats while rebuilding is not easy, but hope the Twins move a lot of the veterans and make a few philosophy changes, 1. Sign only possible #1 or #2 starters, with the pitching coming up the ranks Twins have plenty of bodies, only need a top of rotation type to move this along. 2. Pitching wins, keep finding and moving pitchers though the system. 3. Development and fundamentals seem to be an issue, this may need a major overhall of minor league staff or just a change in making sure playing time relates to this area. 4. Hitting seems to be ok, though this is more of a player issue than a coach. 5. Move on from older players, Twins may only be competitive in 2018 at the earliest, trade most of the older over 25 players 6. Have a frank discussion with Joe Mauer to see if he will waive his no trade clause, he may want to go out with a winner and he is almost certainly not part of the next very good Twins club. 7. Continue finding good young players in trades, this was a TR strength, this must be continued. For the next day or two, I am sure RA will be called with sell low offers, hopefully offers will be better closer to the deadline.
  6. Did not expect this, but hoping Twins bring in a new GM quickly. It does not look according to Wolfson, trade deadline decisions were the issue, but to me it could be the same issue as Bill Smith, badly spent owners money. That will always get the owners attention. Expect given next years revenue projection, the Twins will do a major salary dump this year and rebuild with the youth. Hope new GM guesses right on which ones to keep.
  7. Twins have many more starting pitcher prospects in the mid minors than almost any other club. How will they turn out, I do not claim to know, but most of them should be here in 2018. A couple of years later than expected due to injuries but that is life. Except for catcher and Polanco's final position, we seem to have most of the team here as far as position players go. Only thing I want to see work out is to trade some of the higher priced players at this time, spend money in the offseason on a catcher if you feel that is the need(also some bullpen types) and prepare to sign an ace in the 2017 or 2018 offseason. By that time most of Mauer's money will be off the books and most of the young players will not be having big paydays yet, so there is a window there. TR has proven to be able to change, so despite this year being disappointing, timeline has just moved back a bit. If you bring in a new GM, that person might feel they have to change things, and that does not have to be for the better. Now in the off chance that all but one of the younger pitchers fail, that is a different issue, then you are talking about evaluating and drafting talent. That is what you change GM's for.
  8. Zuck has had 1/2 a great season and a great month and a great month and a half. Trade him now if you can get a fair prospect for him. We do not know what will happen next year, it is not likely we will be contenders until 2018 at the earliest. Turner or Garver could be here next year, along with possibly Murphy or you could pay big buck(which Twins should be able to afford given trading 2 pitchers this year, for Ramos or Wieters. Banking on Zuck is not an option.
  9. Teams this decade had very little talent in the starting rotation and the bullpen got overused and then blew up. I went with 35 though I could hope for less and the #1 pick in the draft next year, plus a big international pool(if that still exists, best chance of all of the CBA to be changed).
  10. Most clubs are looking internally at this time. The next week or two is when things start to move, first with clubs that are 4-6 games back in the wild card race. Tampa Bay starters will be addressed first and then clubs will move on to secondary targets. Should be plenty of pitchers needed, so Twins will have a chance to move some. Many of the contending clubs have 1-2 holes in their rotations. Twins also need to see what they have that is close. So if they move 2 starters(even 3), we should be able to see what pitchers on the 40 man roster can be dropped at the end of the year.
  11. Would rather take 2 - 3 Class A types. Twins will have enough issues with the 40 man this fall without adding to it(will take sure things). Not likely to get those so take the lower higher upside players.
  12. With Boston, Texas, SF, LAD, Toronto, Detroit, NYY and other contending clubs out there, this should be a sellers market. The Tampa Bay starters will go first, but Twins should have offers if not multiple offers for Santana, Nolasco, and Gibson. Only Gibson rates to be here and effective in 2018-2019. Take the best offer and sell. Expect the Twins to get a couple of mid-level prospects for Santana, maybe a better lower level prospect and an org filler type. Nolasco should bring more of a lottery ticket type(even if the Twins pick up part of the contract, and I suspect they might have to). If you can move Santana's contract, picking up $5 million of next years Nolasco salary is not a big deal as payroll should be down due to large number of youngsters on the team. Sell high on the assets you have(this includes position players) that will not be in the plans after 2018.
  13. Agree with the five givens(adding Turner). Twins may only have 1 catcher(Murphy) after this year. Granite is the only other add (though Vielma is close). Depends on trades, what the Twins get back, and the number of open spots on the roster. Hope the Twins trade some of the major leaguers to create more spots on this list.
  14. Good news on the promotions. It means that most of the possibilities for the Twins rotation in the next few years are now at AA or at least at A+.
  15. Do not think the Suzuki will make his guarantee number, so not worried. Do not think the Twins should sign anyone who is not going to be a part of the 2019 team, maybe 2018 depending upon how the Twins do next year.
  16. Any player who will not be here in 2019 should be trade bait. Here is what I would do. Trade one or both of Santana and Nolasco. Both will bring returns with probably cash having to be sent as part of the deal. This should free up room for rising starting pitchers (Berrios) and maybe others. Trade Abad and any other reliever (Kinzler) who has value. Returns are possible, at the deadline who knows what clubs will need help. Many decent clubs have shaky bullpens at this time. Plouffe will probably have to wait until offseason. If I cannot move him, will have to consider a non tender. Dozier should bring a decent return. If you cannot get this keep him. Call Mauer in and see if he will take a longer term deal to be the Twins roving ambassador. He would still get his money or more over a longer term. If he does not agree to this, tell him that his role will be greatly reduced the next two years and see if he will waive his no trade clause. Would not be this year or next, but would consider DFAing him(he gets paid anyway) to see what I have behind him. Prepare to attempt and sign an ace after the 2017 campaign(with subtractions, there should be plenty of money for a 4 - 5 year contract).
  17. I wanted 4, but with injuries am sure it will be less. Dozier I want to trade, he will not be here for the next very good Twins team, so just move him.
  18. This was in response to the number of comments I have seen, the one quoted was one, where just because you feel you need to move a player, you just move them without regard for return. Why would any GM trade with you, unless they felt they were getting a great deal, when you where virtually giving assets away.
  19. I had this happen to me almost 40 years ago. Also have seen this as I am in process of replacing a teammate who is causing the same issue by constantly being critical. Thought processes can be messed up by constant criticism. I am from on of the toughest groups to break around. Sometimes people need a new start. That issue falls on managers and coaches and why I feel that Twins field staff needs an overhall, starting with the manager.
  20. There is also the issue of building the confidence of the players involved. Most of the players in the majors at this time probably do not need to be part of this discussion. Twins do not need to break players before they can be used. They probably broke Arcia, which is why he needed a new start. Loss of confidence is a big thing. Twins probably want to keep most of the future players away from this year until September or at least August when some of the negatives are gone. Need to find if any of this bullpen should be here over the next few years.
  21. Only a few of the players mentioned can be optioned. Most of the rest will need to be exposed to waivers. Most of this much will not matter, but point come from many posts to just get rid of players for little or nothing. Twins are just cycling through pitchers and seeing if any stick. Same as I would do in this position.
  22. I would love to be in a league with you or be a GM in any type of league with you running a different club. Wait and pounce on the mistakes because you are not patient. This is a long term process, it may be 2 years before the starters with upside get here.
  23. There are Toronto, Boston, Baltimore, and other high-powered offenses. In our division both Chicago and Detroit hit fairly well. Molitor seems to have one set of relievers for close games and another set for the blowouts. Bullpen management seems to have been an issue this year, but that is on the managers and the coaches, not the GM. Overuse of May and other relievers will haunt this team in other month, but that is a different post. When only certain relievers are trusted than you have other issues. Arcia was only the tip of the iceberg and only a small tip.
  24. You really can't because of the 10 day rule and 40 man roster management. Do not mistake a week against lower hitting clubs to make your case. Wait until the Twins have to face some high power offenses to make your case.
