  1. Might make sense to trade with Cinncinatti, as they would benefit from Detroit and Cleveland and we would pick up Minwaukee and St. Louis(which would be a better draw than Kansas City).
  2. I am not a believer in Henricks. Hard to tell on minor league stats, because you can avoid the 2 - 3 good hitters each club has in major situtations. Many major league clubs have 7-9 hitters that can hurt you. Hope he works out, but worried if he is a depended upon option. Note: Terry Ryan must agree as he is signing many pitchers to compete with Henricks for a spot in the bottom of the rotation.
  3. Agreed, Lannan was probably not interested in the Twins and this deal is the same as Correia, but Lannan will have better numbers at the end of the year (won - lost) anyway. ERA and HR's will be worse in Phil.
  4. Pass
  5. Would think the Dodgers would want more. Perkins might get one of the two, but not both. Dodgers may want significant bullpen help for the two of them
  6. Twins may look here for a cheap 1 year option with the Angels picking up most of the tab.
  7. I think this signing speaks volumes of what TR thinks of the pitchers (outside of Diamond) who started for the Twins last year. This is a large group that will move up and down between Minnesota and Rochester. Get those frequent flyer miles.
  8. I believe he was offered arbitration, and I agree with this. Good point.
  9. This would be more likely to happen at the trade deadline next year. Morneau has better landing places than Texas for return. (Tampa, Seattle, Boston) for a few.
  10. After a certain time managers, coaches, etc. get tuned out. Some of this can be contributed to the lack of fundamentals being taught in the minor leagues(big Bill Smith issue) and some is the younger guys need a different person to relate to. All in all in comes down to the improvement the Twins show in the next year. Gardy standing behind Rick Anderson probably did not help either.
  11. Twins should do what it takes to get this done. Marcum was my #1 target for an affordable pitcher with good talent. It may take the 3/36 to do this and that should be OK for the Twins.
  12. I think Wilson has stated he wanted to close. That probably will rule him out here, but good idea to sign him(if Possible) and flip him at the deadline if the Twins are out of it.
  13. I agree, we need to see what he can do against higher competition.
  14. Numbers is what this will be all about over the next couple of years. Look at KC, they have never been able to develop pitching and the cost to them is now high. Twins have to find the pitchers, there will be move available(Dodgers have 8, KC has 6 - 7) some of these may come as salary dumps without a lot of prospect cost.
  15. You have to buy them in single A as pieces or take one as a chance at a higher level(May). The best the Royals trade was is even and many baseball writers consider it a steal for Tampa Bay. If that is what the Twins have to do, buy and develope, don't give the future away for a small chance now.
  16. Think he may be moved, more at the trade deadline, Arcia should be ready by then and Parmalee can move to first. Still wish they would extend him, but doubt they will.
  17. I think for Gardy to stay, he had to jettison Rick Anderson and did not want to do it. He has not become a worse manager, just very little talent here and not much for this year. It looks like he is setup to fail.
  18. There are two points to be taken here: 1. Pitchers stats look better on winning teams, it is hard to sign good pitchers to play on lower ranking teams without significantly overpaying them. 2. Terry Ryan is looking to improve the Twins for the next 2 years until the (hopefully) next wave of good and great Twins players arrives. He does not seem to believe in the current crop of upper level Twins pitchers except as AAA starters to make Rochester compete for playoff spots. This reflects on prior management and also bad luck with a number of arm injuries.
  19. This may get back to the earlier TR comments about not being able to give money away. The decent pitchers want to pitch for a winner. That leaves guys like this and worse or doing nothing. Twins have to try, but I am not wild about this signing. Hope it turns out decent a can be filpped at the Trade Deadline for prospects.
  20. This trade has been labeled a heist for Tampa Bay and probably is. Kansas City had to become relivant before they start losing the young talent they have developed, and their pitching to put it mildly sucked. It will be interesting to see if Detroit now makes a move. Kansas City at least reconized where they were and took a chance(too big for me). Twins are about 3 years from where KC is now. Terry Ryan is one the right path, you win with pitching, but your club has to be good enough for the pitching to make a difference. Twins have 3 - 4 very good ballplayers to stars, the rest of the onfield team is below average. 2013 will probably not be the best of years, but could lay the foundation for very good teams from 2015 on.
  21. Still think the Twins will have to trade for a pitcher, does not look like they will sign one at these inflated prices.
  22. Hicks should make the team. Will he start here probably not, but that is the way the Twins work.
  23. I liked McCarthy. Too bad. Twins can afford to spend some money, but will they?
  24. Good, do not have to worry about him pitching for the Twins.
  25. Agree on most of this. Will probably get at least one of these, hope it is Myers or Lannan. Rest could be hopeless. Looks like payroll is less than expected. That is not good. Upside is that Gibson against this crowd will probably start up here. Training begin early.
