  1. I also agree on the poor return, but I bet the Tigers have another move to be played(Cano or Tanaka)?
  2. None of the above where worth a Qualifying Offer. All would have accepted in a heartbeat. Maybe the Twins are still in on Garza, but am guessing Pelfrey if they sign another pitcher.
  3. 1. Doumit has value and Buxton/Hicks/Sano show up in mid year 2. Worley will be given another chance, do not know if he deserves it. 3. Hendriks = gone good AAAA pitcher, no major league out pitch. 4. Diamond = same as above. 5. Albers - insurance stashed at AAA 6. Good story, Twins need right handed bats and he can play first when Mauer DH's. Will see if he can hit enough 7. Parmelle - last chance, do not see him making the club.
  4. Latest post on mlbtraderumors references an article by LaVelle E. Neal III citing an anonymous source as the Twins have signed Phil Hughes. This is supposed to be a 3/24 contract. If this is correct it is good news. I would rather have a different pitcher, but this signing cannot hurt. Decent price for a pitcher. TR at least is getting decent value for Poland's money.
  5. Think Eades is rated way too high. Outside of that very good list. Will wait to see the top ten before commenting further.
  6. I am thinking that Stewart ends the year in New Britian and Gonsalves and Thorpe end the year in Fort Myers(much closer to Minnesota than would be believed). Hitters I feel that Vargas could be in Rochester by the end of the year, also think Minier will be further along than we think and will be in New Britian or Rochester by the end of the year.
  7. Could be one of a number of players. Collebella is a good guess. I might rather give up on Parmelle.
  8. I am sure that they will take several of the rotation spots, along with this years #1 pick. Go for it.
  9. A good start, still a little worried by the fact he has not pitched in the American league. He at the current time is still the Twins ace, still hope they sign at least one better pitcher.
  10. Twins need pitchers, does not matter if they sign 2 or 3, but Pelfrey only fits as a third pitcher.
  11. I also feel that actions will make a difference. Twins should only pay for a frontline(#1 or #2) starter for 3 years or more. Twins should also be very aggressive in pushing Stewart and Thorpe up the latter to see if they can make the rotation in 2016. That would make this line very plausible.
  12. I think you are looking at 2/16-2/20. Still probably better the Arroyo. Only thing Arroyo has going for him is that he eats innings. Have other pitchers I would rather take flyers on.
  13. Unless the Yankees have written off Cano, their biggest issue is going to be avoiding the luxury tax next year. They still need 1-2 starting pitchers and Cano. That is a lot of money.
  14. Not on the Twins radar. Shows how prices are going up, and expect pitching will be expensive. Also shows the Yankees do not expect to pay A-Rods salary next year.
  15. If you feel it is worthwhile go for it. This is a cheap roster upgrade.
  16. I believe Bobby Cuellar speaks Spanish, but I could be wrong. Welcome to the site, everyone has their opinions. All are passionate about the Twins. I also agree on not liking the losses, but most midmarket teams have to reload at some point and Bill Smith made a number of foolish trades(some to please Gardy, but that is another issue). Feel the Twins are going to be competitive starting probably in 2016 for division titles again, but we should see improvement this year. Biggest issue I see with the Twins in the future is being able to keep their FA's and trading the ones they cannot keep 2 years early at the height of their value. St. Louis is an excellent model to follow.
  17. I would rather have Josh Johnson and Kazmir. Arroyo is like a third or fourth choice for me, money is high and risk is very high by the third year. Do not want anything to do with Hughes, take a pass unless the money is low. This is a year to buy at most pitchers for 3 years, you do not want aged pitchers blocking prospects because of money. Other by low candidates, Niemann, Acieves, Johan(1 year with an option). Time to buy major pieces is next year when the Twins are ready to compete at the next level. (Also the talent level is higher)
  18. With the number of players to be protected, the number of current Twins who need protection is low. Drop the marginals as I stated above and protect the player you want to protect. I do not see Darnell as better than Diamond or Albers, so I would not protect him. The rest of the players stated above are choices, but would be dismayed if the Twins gave up on significant bullpen pieces. May see waivers or a few minor trades today or tomorrow, but most low talent clubs will not give much for bullpen pitchers they may be able to get off the waiver wire in the next couple of days.
  19. Depends on how many you want to add. My guess is the Fryer and Hermsen are gone, then you could drop many of the following group, Diamond, Albers, Collabella, Mastro. I would be trying to trade Fien, Hendriks, Duensing Parmelle. Problems like this are good to have, if you have a very good farm system, you will lose players. Pirates lost like 6 a couple of years ago. I would add Polanco, Kepler and Achter for sure. Wimmers and Olivares are strong candidates for a bad team to take a flyer on a stash in the bullpen for a year. With the current pitching crunch do not consider Vargas and issue as he is 1-2 years away at least and stashing a hitter is much more difficult than a mop pitcher for a year.
  20. I believe the thought is that outside of Mauer and Dozier every Twins starter in the field had a worse year than might have been expected. You do not know which ones will improve, but the odds are that Willingham, Doumit, and Arcia will all do better than last year(Dozier and Mauer could go either way). The rest could move up or down, but on average the Twins hitting rates to be better than last year.
  21. Rosario will probably start in AAA. Could see the Twins trading Dozier if they can get a very good pitcher(or prospect in return). Next year will probably still not matter, so I would not be opposed to that line(sell high). Could even see Rosario (if Dozier is traded, starting in Minnesota).
  22. Maybe Polanco starts at New Britian, but Ft. Meyers would have a excess of Shortstops.
  23. Thorpe is higher than I have seen, that might be a good thing. It looks like Dozier will have to play shortstop to be a long term fixture here, both Rosario and Polanco can hit. Future looks bright if most of these and the next 15 pan out. Still expect some to fail, just hopefully not almost all. Pitching will be the key.
  24. 1. Twins sign 3 FA pitchers, but only 1 gets 3 years and the third is a flyer 2. Doumit is traded in spring training, Willingham is traded in July. 3. Mauer is the only Twin to make the all star team, does not start 4. Sano is up by June, Buxton in September 5. Arcia becomes the second best twins hitter. 6. Parmelee is traded or lost on waivers at the end of spring training 7. Stewart starts in A+ to avoid the cold and pitches well enough to advance to New Briton 8. Dozier hits better than expected and returns to shortstop when Rosario arrives in September. 9.Twins bring in a veteran catcher to protect Pinto at the start of the season. 10. Duensing and Fien are both traded before the start of next season, one to make a spot for Tonkin, Other in a multi-player deal to add more young pitching to the system.
  25. Issue would be if Garza, Johnson and Kazmir will come here. I would offer more money for the shorter length contracts and see if they take it, if not move on to plan B. But don't wait for the higher ranked pitchers to see what they want to do, make an offer, give them(or their agents) 2 days to accept and if not go to plan B.
