  1. Wife: Can you just look at the instructions? Me: If God intended us to look at instructions he would have put them in a place where I could easily find them. Wife: I found them... So God is a woman AMEN!!
  2. Have fun the rest of the game.
  3. although obviously the Pohlads did talk about moving the club. Sorry I was confusing moving and contracting.
  4. For the team? or fans?
  5. Pretty sure that HR can't be good.
  6. First, I am grateful for the earlier start time than the last four nights. Thank you, Rockies for going earlier than 7:10 MTN. Second, as much some Twins fans complain about the Pohlads, I don't think Jim has ever actually said, "if the product and experience are that bad, don't come" although obviously the Pohlads did talk about moving the club. http://www.cbssports.com/mlb/eye-on-baseball/24615874/rockies-owner-dick-monfort-says-maybe-denver-doesnt-deserve-a-franchise
  7. No, after the July 3 game, he was batting .245/.377/.408/.785 Now he is batting .284/.410/.403/.813 It is a small sample size but it is nice to see improvement rather than regression. If you look at June 27 (his first 10 games), his line was .171/.268/.286/.554 so while it hasn't been a miracle climb he has generally just shown some steady improvement. I like that. He certainly has more to show and jokin is right, it would be nice if those hits were coming with some authority, but it is sure a lot better than seeing him wallow in the depths.
  8. I'm sorry if I misinterpreted you, jokin but that's the way I interpreted this statement: Hicks has practically been dispatched to Siberia- the premise for his demotion is no longer even valid. I don't -- and didn't -- ever see the switch hitting as the only premise for his demotion. Gardenhire said: "It's getting your mind right and focusing on how to get better as a player, all the way around," Gardenhire said. "Get back to doing what (you) were doing. Right now, stabilizing yourself." http://www.twincities.com/twins/ci_26031631/twins-option-aaron-hicks-class-aa-new-britain Now, some of that undoubtedly relates to his vacillation about switch hitting but overall it just looked as though Hicks had lost confidence -- that's probably part of what led to his initial decision to give up switch hitting. I agree that he needs to spend more time in New Britain. If that works well, send him to Rochester for awhile. Try to undo moving him up too quickly the last two years. All of this isn't on Aaron Hicks' head. Terry Ryan took some responsibility for the way it had gone, too. It is one of those situations that needs time to work itself out.
  9. I hope the start in Seattle was a sign of growing maturity. Figuring out that even if he doesn't have his best stuff, he can keep the game in reach. I see it as a positive sign. But he's got a lot of learning still to do. The key is finding out how to keep those good outings while keeping it going when things aren't so good. I guess I think that's why it'll be interesting to see this develop. I agree that it is unusual to see such a bold line of demarcation between the good & the bad but I do see the last outing as somewhere between the two (even though the results fell on the good side). We have the contrast between Pino who has seemingly learned the craftiness to get through some of the bad and Gibson who is still young enough that he has a lot to learn that craft. It's part of maturing as a pitcher, I think.
  10. From the numbers lately, it looks to me as though Aaron is getting his head back on straight. And, I think doing it away from the major league spotlight is a good thing. Part of the problem was that the Twins rushed Hicks to the majors in the first place. Now you're trying to hasten the process again. It hasn't been all that long. Let him get his confidence back. So far it looks like his demotion to NB is working -- the numbers have steadily improved.
  11. I find the discussion ridiculous when the information should be verifiable. I sent a PM to Andrew Walter (Twins Fan From Afar) and asked him if he had been at games and could tell us what was going on or whether he had a contact in the organization who could verify. I'll let you know what I hear or hopefully he'll post here.
  12. I think it says more about where the people on this board are mentally right now.
  13. I can find his stats for the year in the minors but is there somewhere that gives you the last 7 days, last 14 days, etc.? Steve Lein gives his stats for the last 10 days. Just looked at his stats on the Rock Cats site: http://www.milb.com/milb/stats/stats.jsp?pos=CF&sid=t538&t=p_pbp&pid=543305 Those last 10 games are looking more and more impressive. Oh and that Rock Cats stats info is really nice. EDIT: Thanks asbury, when I finally looked at the top and found the Gamelogs and splits, it does indeed have what you said would be there. DUH.
  14. Reposted from when this was a blog entry: Hopefully, Gibson can improve on these results as he continues to learn and grow. He’ll need to learn how to pitch when his best stuff just isn’t with him – even Kevin Correia and Ricky Nolasco can turn in quality outings when their command is evading them. I wonder if last night wasn't part of that learning process. Len 3 tweeted: LaVelle E. Neal III @LaVelleNeal · 20h Gibson was solid but not spectacular. Failure to throw strike one kept him from pitching deeper in game. So even though he apparently didn't have his best stuff, he perservered. Thanks for all the analysis. It'll be interesting to follow this the rest of the season.
  15. While I appreciate your sentiment, I hope the Twins don't fall into this trap. It seems like at various times over the last 3 years, they just couldn't decide if they were buyers or sellers. I've seen enough to believe that they are not a playoff-worthy team. That makes them sellers to me and I hope that TR take advantage of it.
  16. Really nice job of weaving so many threads of Minnesota's baseball history. And Janet Thielbar is my new hero. She's actually a couple of years younger than me but I can greatly appreciate the opposition she must have faced. Love her dad and coach, too, for believing in her love of the game.
  17. It's pretty clear that Pino has learned something about pitching. Very impressed by the way he worked his way out of jams last night. After so many years of toiling in the minors, I'm glad that he has gotten an opportunity to show that he can have some success at the major league level. And yeah, it s*cks that he's taking a major pay cut with the option.
  18. Seattle may have underestimated the Twins. Losing 3 of 4 isn't a good way to prep for the A's. YEA! TWINS!
  19. Geez its been an adventure with Pino. But there he is giving up only 1 run through 5.
  20. Thursday, July 10: Hicks is 1 for 3 plus a walk; was a base hit; he had 1 rbi and no strikeouts BA up to .284
  21. It does but my sympathy level is significantly higher for Tanaka than for the Yankees.
