  1. Um, maybe you should do it. Test it and then give me the step-by-step???
  2. A First inning run? Priceless.
  3. Getting carpal tunnel voting Morneau.
  4. As a representative of your team, you've been a breath of fresh air, Jack. Hope all you techie-type guys have that sense of humor.
  5. Why does this have such an element of truth in it?
  6. Nah, his grandfather is dating her. (At least that's the semantics now that I look back at my post.
  7. I wish I was watching this game now rather than at 9:10 p.m. Stinking Mariners just can't let 'em leave town at a reasonable hour. OOPS! Forgot they still had a game tomorrow night at 9:10 p.m. -- hold this comment till tomorrow afternoon.
  8. Darren Wolfson ‏@DarrenWolfson 3h Radcliff saw Berrios (5 ER, 5 IP) at AA today. "Threw hard. Used all his pitches. Good approach and learning day. Scouting assessment good." As with Burdi, let's give him a few outings to settle in before we reach any conclusions.
  9. After the season, I hope you'll come back here and explain to us a little about how you've made use of the data provided by all the new censors, etc. put into TF. I remember reading a bit about mlb putting in new measuring devices prior to the season in some parks and know that TF was one. Would really appreciate it if you could give us some insight when you aren't quite so busy.
  10. LOL. You'd find I'm very boring. And you'd find that I definitely lack 99% of the other qualifications. Nice to see you post here again and good luck in finding a GREAT HIRE!
  11. Interesting find although just reading the qualifications pretty much gives me a headache. And a warning to applicants, go look at all your social media postings about the Twins!!!
  12. But your gripe then, JC, should be with the HOF voters not the All-Star game voters. If you want it all to come down to some kind of analytical numbers then come up with parameters and feed it into a computer. But that's not what the AS Game is about for me and its not what the HOF is about for me. That human element of why people appreciate one player or another is also a factor. Edit: OOPS, I apologize to SD Fan for thinking this was posted by SD Buhr (and apologize to JC for that mistake). Old eyes.
  13. One of the things that impresses me about Justin's record is that for all the groaning about how Coors Field is beneficial, Morny has the smallest (or about the smallest) discrepancy between his home and road splits of the five final vote candidates. If someone wants to groan about home field advantage, they should look at the huge disparity in Justin Upton's numbers at home or on the road.
  14. I've been voting Morneau and Kluber. It's fun when you are in a rural county because you can actually affect the "color" of your county on the maps on mlb.com: http://m.mlb.com/visualization/ http://m.mlb.com/visualization/ I think I see you in southern IA, Tibs.
  15. Joe probably doesn't love Jake talking to the press but I'm sure he's had to get used to it. Jake is in his mid-80's and a bit of a character. As my grandmother used to say: "I can say anything I want. I'm old you know." Kind of like when Justin Verlander's grandfather (I think) first confirmed his relationship with Kate Upton. OOPs, grandparents just don't censor what they say. I actually love this story about what Jake had to say. If old age gets you anything, it should be the right to be candid. And there's obviously a lot of love and respect for Joe there, too.
  16. One more thing. I did think it was interesting that Jake thinks the concussion may be having some lingering effects: Jake believes the concussion Mauer suffered last August and caused him to miss the remainder of the season is a factor. “I think it has hampered him. I really do.”
  17. “He’s getting a big salary, he should produce,” Jake said. “That’s what the fans think and that’s what the fans want. He’s trying but it just don’t happen (yet). But I don’t blame the people.” Still, Jake said his grandson “definitely” will hit over .300 before the season ends. “He’s on his way and then he got hurt.” I don't think Joe would disagree with that. And it looks to me like Jake has Joe's back.
  18. I saw Hicks being sent down as what was best for Hicks -- not necessarily what was best for the team. And he has been rolling better recently. His AA .BA is now up to .279 and his OBP is .400, SLG at .410 and OPS at .810. This is pretty much where he was at in AA in 2012. I really don't want the Twins to rush him back. I want to see if he can keep improving those numbers and keep his confidence. Maybe try a stint at AAA and see if he can maintain them there. It's another lost season for the Twins anyway. I'd like to see Hicks get the experience and build the confidence he needs to be ready for 2015.
  19. Thanks for all your responses. As I think I mentioned earlier, I was being a bit pro-active in bringing this up because I don't want to see discussion being directed and I really fear that when there is a warning posted right away in the thread. I don't know the answers and frankly I don't know how much different what is happening now is from last summer or the summer before. In fact, it seems to me that discussion is probably more genteel now than it has been in the past (probably because the mods are on top of things). I appreciate that you thought about this in advance, Glunn, and that's really all I ask. That the mods keep in mind that posting a warning early in a thread can have not only a directional effect but a chilling one. I know for me, I simply didn't post in the thread -- I didn't have plans to say anything negative but the warning just turned me off. As for the frustration that I mentioned earlier about people posting responses to every item in a thread that might have a contrary view, I really never thought of it as trolling. But in effect, that probably defines it best. I know it evokes a very emotional reaction in me (and most of the time the posts they are responding to aren't even mine). I don't know what you do about it but I appreciate that you also see the issue. The mods do a great job -- it is certainly not a job I would want. Thanks again for your responses.
  20. Either way, it's bizarre but I don't speak Texan.
  21. Ken Rosenthal ‏@Ken_Rosenthal 6m Sources: #RedSox designating Pierzynski for assignment. Makes the Suzuki signing look better & better. But I'm still an A.J. fan .... sometimes you just have to know when you're done.
  22. I think the Twins are very willing to trade him. I'm a little more skeptical of what a team might give up to get him. I don't see him as the equivalent of Liriano because for all his problems and inconsistency, Liriano definitely had some pretty good upside. Doesn't mean that Ryan won't be able to work a miracle but from what I've seen in the national media (can't find the articles back now), no one seems to have much interest in Correia. He's been better recently but who knows whether you would get Good Kevin or Bad Kevin.
  23. Abreu turned down the HR derby: http://www.suntimes.com/sports/28552589-574/chris-sale-leads-al-final-vote-jose-abreu-shuns-home-run-derby.html Cruz also turned it down: http://articles.baltimoresun.com/2014-07-08/sports/bal-orioles-center-fielder-adam-jones-to-participate-in-home-run-derby-on-monday-20140708_1_adam-jones-buck-showalter-home-run-derby As did Cabrera, Trout and others. Can't force them to participate.
  24. I've really seen the HR derby as a mixed blessing. Dozier seems like he needs a few solid days off and a trip home to Mississippi may have rejuvenated him. Now I guess we'll see. There are so many dangers in the "swing for the fences" approach of the Derby and there have to be reasons why a lot of players decline to participate. Hopefully the fun of being around the best in the game will offset this for Dozier and he'll be able to get back to what he was doing well.
  25. I understand and I understand that things have tended to go negative the last few years. Less so on the minor league threads but there's always some frustration there over when prospects will be moved up. I just don't want to see TD get in the habit of directing the conversation versus keeping it "on track" because I see those as two different things. And as long as I'm venting, I want to add: My biggest frustration on TD is when any poster (positive or negative) finds it necessary to start responding to every post counter their position. This can't be moderated as long as they don't break the rules in terms of what they say but to me it is as destructive as most of the snark I've seen.
