  1. I find this to be a lazy, curious way to analyze the cost of acquiring Sukuki: Since Suzuki doesn’t cost much, he’ll probably only cost a mid-level prospect, someone like Mike O’Neill So since the Twins got a good value in Suzuki in free agency in the off-season, they should naturally just pass those savings on to any trade partner? Huh?
  2. Really interesting read that makes me glad I'm not 20-something (or a journalist).
  3. Hi Travis! Welcome to the board and I hope you like the TC. Maybe you should join the pub crawl in August and have a chance to meet up with a lot of fellow TD-ers. Sounds like a great way to meet others who love the Twins.
  4. FOX Sports: MLB ‏@MLBONFOX 50m BREAKING: the #Yankees have acquired 3B Chase Headley from the #Padres for Rafael DePaula & Yangervis Solarte. (via @JonHeymanCBS)
  5. But it isn't like last year's "Drunk" which was the part that really bothered me. And the last I knew even pubs generally have something non-alcoholic available although I realize that's not what most would order.
  6. Nolasco? Sounded like he was getting close but that is probably too soon. Think the 15 days are up on the 23rd or 24th.
  7. Thanks, Seth. There should be plenty of opportunities for both to "move up" in the next few years. Kind of like the idea of them growing together.
  8. Have a great time, everyone. And thanks, TD, for coming up with a more alcohol-neutral name for the event this year. Much appreciated.
  9. It is a funny number. But I also wonder about Perkins' absolute confidence that he won't be traded. Just that closer's mentality or is there something else?
  10. Mike Berardino ‏@MikeBerardino 12h Kurt Suzuki has made at least 3 visits to calm down Kris Johnson -- and we're only in top 4. Pitch Framing Mob never considers that part. This continues to raise my question about whether you can totally "measure" the effect of the catcher. How much influence did Suzuki have over Kris Johnson last night? Even in losses, how much might the catcher's influence on the pitcher have in keeping the score closer than it might have been? I don't know if everything is measurable. I do know that pitchers seem to have a lot of respect for Suzuki .... I don't think pitchers are totally dumb about their craft so I think there must be something there that they are appreciating. All that being said, I'm still in favor of trading Suzuki since it seems an extension won't get done. The last thing I want to see is another wasted trade deadline.
  11. Wow, Seth ... what a great piece. Definitely worthy of being in any newspaper. How do you see the career paths progressing for Watkins and Mauer? Any timelines in mind?
  12. Sometimes I get a chuckle out of Berardino's tweets: Mike Berardino ‏@MikeBerardino 2m Kurt Suzuki has made at least 3 visits to calm down Kris Johnson -- and we're only in top 4. Pitch Framing Mob never considers that part.
  13. Sorry to miss the cake discussion! Homemade German Chocolate or really any chocolate with homemade coconut-pecan frosting. I also make a white cake that make in layers filled buttercream frosting and strawberries soaked in frambroise liquor. With buttercream frosting, almonds and strawberries on top. If I have to have white cake, I need some kind of filling.
  14. And all that gives you is an excuse for no one EVER being responsible for ANYTHING.
  15. Troy Renck ‏@TroyRenck 13m #Rockies' Justin Morneau placed on 15-day DL with neck injury. Ben Paulsen called up. Jair Jurrjens designated for assignment
  16. I think that's a possibility. It's really hard to overcome on the local TV revenue although I think the Twin Cities are like the 15th largest TV market. But in baseball terms, that actually makes them about 19th out of 30 since the "2 team markets" are all above them. http://www.nielsen.com/content/dam/corporate/us/en/docs/solutions/measurement/television/2013-2014-DMA-Ranks.pdf And obviously losing 11,000-12,000 through the gates each game (since 2010) doesn't help either.
  17. I don't think they are in the bottom 10 (not in the group eligible for 1st round lottery picks) but I think that they are now eligible for revenue sharing (puts them in the second group with the Mariners). While some of it probably relates to the drop off in revenues at TF, some undoubtedly relates to the size of the TV contracts some of the teams are receiving. I remember when TF opened and the Twins lost revenue-sharing (for 2011, I think). Didn't take long for that to be reversed. And honestly, given the size of some of the local TV contracts, it isn't surprising.
  18. But it does depend on the player and how they are used. Brian Duensing had TJ in 2003-2004 and here we are 10 years later. But I would think the likelihood of recurrence would be greater with starters than relievers.
  19. Absolutely. Just was surprised because I think last year we had a discussion about why the Twins weren't eligible.
  20. mlb.com has a story on the upcoming competitive balance lottery: http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article/min/12-teams-to-receive-supplemental-2015-draft-picks-in-competitive-balance-lottery-on-wednesday?ymd=20140720&content_id=85517450&vkey=news_min The way I read this, in order to eligible to win supplemental first round picks, you have to be 1) one of the 10 smallest markets; or 2) one of the 10 smallest revenue pools. The Twins do not fall into either of those categories. Those who don't get supplemental first round picks will get supplemental second round picks. The Twins and Mariners also get supplemental 2nd round picks (in addition to any leftovers from above). The only reason I can see for the Twins getting a supplemental 2nd round pick is this: Additionally, any other clubs that are eligible to receive revenue-sharing funds are eligible for the supplemental second-round selections. Have the Twins' revenues fallen enough that they are now getting revenue-sharing funds again? If not, what is the reason that they are eligible for the supplemental 2nd round picks?
  21. But you interpret what management said differently than I do. I don't think the hole is nearly as deep as you think. That doesn't mean I think he'll be back in mlb right away but I also don't think its impossible that we'll see him with the major league club later this season. I think if they saw him as a fungible player (4th outfielder), they'd just let the chips fall where they may and he might go up and down. But I think that they still believe in his potential and that's why they are going to be very patient with him at AA and then have him do a stint in AAA.
  22. I guess that 44-53 (2014) record is still significantly better than 41-53 (2013) or 39-54 (2012). Ugh, ugh, ugh.
  23. I got it. But I'm tired .... this game feels like it went on forever.
  24. Well, the Twins are messed up. Doubt if it had anything to do with the Derby. Ugh.
  25. GS today. He has seemingly made steady improvement in NB and seems to be getting his swing and his confidence back. That's what I want to see but no need to rush him back to MLB (even though I like seeing him on the team).
