    I'm just holding out hope for a mid season call up of some sushi or Korean BBQ offerings. Tony O's has had it's success here, but I hope we can trade those cuban sandwiches for some high upside Dominican fare.

    This is a great bit and a great article. I hope you stick around and become our Drew Magary. The Twins should actually be innovative and DROP beer prices depending on how many games they are .500 at the time. Every game under? 1% off your beer tab. Sure it's going to create a lot of loose change, but at least we can save a few bucks for when they are inevitably out of it by June. Also taking away Butcher and the Boar from the offering which is one of my current 5 favorite restaurants in the country (/adjusts monocle) is just pure madness. If anything they should have MORE of a presence. Take over that whole hideous and pointless beer garden section in left field.

    2011 was a better time in Twins land, our beloved Minnesota Twins had just won back to back division titles, and were in the midst of what was probably one of the best overall ten year runs in franchise history. Expectations were sky high and an overconfident DaveW made a bold bet with his Royals fan buddy: The terms: 50 total years Payout every season Royals vs Twins $5 per win (i.e. if the Twins win 10 more games then the Royals in a given season, I win $50, if they lose 10 more, I lose $50) $10 per playoff win. Easy money right? The Royals were in the midst of their seemingly 20 year rebuild, and while there was some "talent" they had lost 93 games in 6 of their previous seasons. I figured I should easily be able to make $80-$200 bucks a season for the next few years......Oops. Let's goto the scoreboard: 2011: Twins: 63 Royals: 71 (Lost $40)....hmm surely this was just a fluke, right? $40 down isn't that bad afterall. 2012: Twins: 66 Royals: 72 (Lost $30)....uh oh, the Twins aren't looking too good these days I thought, but hell, at least the royals are still in the cellar as well! 2013: Twins: 66 Royals: 86 (Lost $100)....This is where I started to regret this bet, but it was going to get worse, much worse. 2014: Twins: 70 Royals 99 (including 10 playoff wins) (lost $185) 2015: Twins: 83 Royals:106 (including 11 playoff wins) (lost $170) Well at least the Twins are on the rebound a bit, maybe I can turn this thing around soon! Oops 2016: Twins 59!!! Royals: 81 (Lost $110) Well....****. Total so far: 6 seasons, down $635 Questions for the peanut gallery: -What year do you predict that I will actually "win" a season? I am just hoping it's sometime before 2021 at this stage. -How much do you expect I lose this year? (or win?) -What year (if ever) will the bet end up breaking even? Will be "fun" to re-bump this thread every end of season My predictions: -2019 -I predict I will lose $45 (Twins 75 wins, Royals 84) -2029 (It's going to take a while to dig out of some of those big swings)

    Escobar is on the roster and can play any INF position (better than Santana actually) Dozier, Sano, and Polanco need to be playing every day anyways. You don't need TWO back up INF, especially when one is quite terrible at hitting and defense.

    Yeah at some point it gets really annoying that this team loses every year.

    Yeah I don't think anyone is "angry" over this. As a fan though it's just more of the same and really dampens what should be the best time of the year. It's gonna be hard to watch this team, last year I maybe watched 5 games after May, this year it will be hard to watch 15 all year if this is the kind of roster we will have to stomach!

    Yup. As usual Chief nails it, and I agree with him as he truly has seen it all and has been an elite insider baseball mind ever since he won $50 on the 1919 World Series.

    Yup. Hicks is actually being able to provide value while JRM is just AAA back up type now. I hated the trade then and I hate it now. I'd much rather have hicks as our 4th OF now then Grossman (who can't play D) or freaking Santana!

    Matt Davidson was kept by the White Sox this off season. He is a high busy candidate for sure, but at least there is some upside there if he can suddenly "click. The Twins bring in Gimenez, give the DH spot to grossman and keep Danny santana on the roster. It's almost like the White Sox actually are committing to a rebuild, and the Twins like always are just treading water hoping for a miracle.

    Angels think he can be a starter. I really don't get why we gave him up for no reason.

    Who knows: maybe McCleod would have pulled the trigger on the Dozier trade, and maybe he would have been able to move a couple more guys. One thing is certain; it would be damn hard of him to do much worse then what this new FO has done so far.

    If Asrianza was healthy, I imagine they would have just brought 12 pitchers north. The Twins are obsessed with Santana and his versatility. They view him as their nick punto version 2.0 Problem is Santana makes Punto look like A-Rod

    Gimenez over JRM, to me it makes zero sense. Can anyone defend this with a straight face?

    Bingo And for all the gushing about tonkin missing bats last year (with a poor ERA and everything else to boot) it seems odd that we wouldn't think the same thing about Meyer, a guy who has 9k/9in+ so far in his (limited) major league career but who can actually START as well. Even if meyer never makes it as a starter he would have been nice depth for this Twins team that (wait for it.....) has zero RP depth.

    Meyer would have been another option, and is a guy who can miss bats. He isn't a sure thing by a long shot, but my point was that on a team with zero SP depth, it was really really dumb to trade him away.

    Yes, perhaps going cheap and hiring the more inexperienced candidate to run the FO wasn't such a genius move to begin with.

    If you can't trust 60% of your rotation to give you 5 innings, there are much bigger issues to be solved. Too bad we shipped off a guy like Meyer for no reason, he would actually be a guy I would like to see compete for the 5th spot this year.

    Most damning of all is that in addition to not improving the 2017 team in any meaningful manner (Castro over Suzuki is maybe one win best case scenario) they also managed to NOT improve this team for the 2018-2020 seasons. By failing to trade any of Dozier, Santana etc or anyone really they have managed to more or less improve zilch overall. Not Good
