  1. We have seen these bursts from Liriano before..
  2. Give me a break. Why is there such a great risk of injury with him? His prior four years he averaged 132 games a year and in 3 of the 4 had more than 130 games. Yes his defense is bad, but you can DH him, and there is no reason why he cant still give you a .800-.840 OPS and 25 or so HR. If he is a DH you are probably looking at a guy who is a 2.7-3.3 WAR player next year, which makes him a relative steal at 7 mil. Plus you can always hold onto him, wait for the rebound and trade him when his value is a bit higher. This team needs bats heading into next year, instead of dumping one of our cheap internal ones and bringing in another FA we should certainly keep him around at this point (unless a good offer is made in the off-season)
  3. Meh, his career OPS is sub .700, which isn't terrible for a SS but hardly world beating. Yes, the current crop of major league SS is lacking a bit, but there are a ton of top SS prospects that will be up in the coming years which should even a lot of things out (plus Machado I imagine will move to SS?) I'm not sure he can be counted on posting a .727 OPS like he did last year, when this will now be his 2nd time in 4 seasons where he hit a sub .650 OPS. I get that he is only 24...but still, the bat just doesn't do it for me.
  4. Willingham wouldn't pass waivers, he is still a big bat with a favorable contract.
  5. Buxton, Hicks, Sano.
  6. He is also keeping it on the ground..
  7. Why on earth would the Twins trade Dozier?
  8. Yeah Hermann is a nice guy to have as Org depth, and is nice as long as he is still cheap. But I would be shocked if he is still in the org by the time he hits arb. I'd like to see Pinto up as well.
  9. There are already plenty of at bats for Parmelee if he would ever step up.... I'm not sure who else needs those at bats moving forward. Arcia will get his regardless and a guy like Colabello (or whatever) isn't going to be a starting option moving forward, a borderline bench bat and a great story, but he doesn't need the at bats. This isn't exactly Douggie Glove with Morneau knocking on the door.
  10. Meh, I have never lived one day in Minnesota, just knew Duluth was north
  11. I would really hate to see Morneaus Minnesota time end with him being traded for the next Mark Hamburger. If we can't get anything of any sort of value (and I'm talking it has to be better than a ceiling of a future middle relief pitcher or a 4th OF/Util Inf) then I would rather he just play his last two months here and get a proper Twins send off at the end of the year. If someone wants to overpay and give you a guy that can be a SP or a lottery ticket, then do it, but I don't see that happening.
  12. Yankees are also in year 1 of a down cycle, they are going to lose Cano and Rivera this off-season and have zero real "studs" any more. Those big Tex, Jeter and A-Rod contracts are so epic.
  13. The second one makes me think they are playing the game in Duluth. I would have personally preferred an homage to 1991, or at least a Juicy Lucy somewhere on the logo.
  14. The more I think about it, the more it seems to me the reason why DeDuno has been our best pitcher (and damn solid over all this year) is because we have some really nice INF defense
  15. really??
  16. Also I would like to know these superior options that exist for SS/2B. It should be noted again that Florimon is having a better year than Andrus.
  17. Again, we are getting zero production out of our "offensive" positions, literally getting next to nothing from the OF in general, 1B and DH. The nice thing though is: 1. We have had injuries. 2. We have bats in the minors getting close (Sano, Buxton, Rosario, Arcia) 3. Finding DH/1B/Corner OF is really easy to find in FA market (see: Josh Willingham signing) We have a SS/2B combo where both guys are above average. Dozier should continue to improve his bat as well, but frankly as mentioned, he is a lesser version of JJ Hardy at the plate, and nobody thinks he is some disaster in the lineup. All major efforts on the trade/FA market should be for pitching this historically awful rotation, then spend another 10 mil or so for a 1B or corner OF if need be. Dozier/Florimon are fine until Rosario and some other stud prospect comes up. Teams do and can win with lighter hitting MI, they can't win with light hitting DH/1B and LF/RF
  18. Also Florimon has the 13th highest WAR amongst SS. Having guys who are above league average at SS/2B isn't exactly a super horrible problem IMHO. The amazing thing is, our pitching has still been this awful, with a pretty good defense overall behind them.
  19. If he can give you a .700 OPS and 15-20 HR while playing a very good defense at 2B you take that any day of the week. Obviously you would prefer to have a Cano at 2B, but Dozier does have the 10th highest WAR amongst all 2B this year.... that seems to be at the very least "above average" to me, and he should continue to show improvement moving forward. (Keep in mind I was a huge Dozier hater) The fact is, defense is so much more important at 2B/SS (look at how much Andrus and his no bat just got) if you have a slick fielder who can still hold his own at the plate (never will be a silver slugger, or AS) you are in pretty decent shape. Obviously I would like Rosario to become a stud and bump Dozier to SS or UTIL guy, but for now, the 10th highest WAR 2B in baseball? I can handle that. Make no mistake about it on the list of Twins issues: Pitching is 1, 2, 3 and 4. After that you are probably looking at corner OF and 1B since the Twins are getting ZERO production from those spots.
  20. I actually like our SS/2B combo of Dozier/Florimon moving forward. Both are looking like potential 3 WAR a year players, Florimon doesn't bring much with the bat, but Dozier reminds me of a poor mans JJ Hardy at the plate (low average, low obp but the ability to give you 15-20 HR) If we can upgrade the 1B/DH/LF spots I really like our lineup, especially once Sano and Arcia are both up with the club
  21. Exactly. Also why on earth would the Orioles trade him at his "low value" point.
  22. If you can get Bundy you trade for him yesterday and give up anyone not named Sano or Buxton to get him...with that said....Perkins isn't going to net him.
  23. Oh yay another Slowey apologist, a pitcher so great he is doing mop up work for one of the worst teams in baseball history currently!!
  24. I would Like to see the twins get around 78 wins in order to gain some momentum going into next season. Much easier to add 8-12 wins for next year than adding 20-30 wins if you lose 100 games again.
  25. If you say so coach
