  1. They didnt do an extension because they would have had to pay him close to 10 Mil a year due to the whole 70% rule
  2. I like Colabello and his story, but in no way should the Twins even entertain the idea of him being an every day player for a "good" team, Colabello should be the 25th guy on a roster, not anything much more. Parm has shown exactly ZERO in a good amount of time in the majors to indicate he is ready to take over 1st base on a year to year basis. Sign Morneau for 2-3 years, if he produces and someone presses the issue (Vargas? Plouffe?) then you can always trade him ala Dougie Baseball. It would SUCK to see Morneau go, and frankly with as young as this team will be, it would be nice to keep at least one veteran not named Mauer around.
  3. I do know Perkins used to read Battle Your Tail Off, so there is a chance...
  4. I approve of this bit, I hope it continues into next year.
  5. Yeah, I got that, but he is also a bit if a unique case with that whole concussion keeping him out for a year or so. .300+ difference in OPS is not just a statistical anomaly
  6. They have at least 40-50mil to spend this offseason, if it costs 7-8 mil to keep morneau do it.
  7. Yeah not to mention the whole hitting a lot more HR at Target Field (not hr friendly) vs the other parks
  8. What veterans are we talking about? Nobody offered anything of significance for Morneau and Willingham was injured at the time. Guys like Pelfrey, Carroll, etc would have only brought back PTNBL which aren't exactly helping the future.
  9. I don't think this describes it correctly, we are talking about over 450 PA combined thus far.
  10. Meh, I'd rather they just sign him this off-season and keep him around for another two years until someone else is ready to take over 1st base...(Vargas? Walker?)
  11. Just realized this today...pretty strange, any ideas on why there would be such a huge difference in numbers? Is it the traveling that wears him down or something? home: .320/.386/.536!/.905 Road: .219/.285/.302/.587 So basically when he is at target field this year, Morneau is playing at a very good rate for a first baseman with a .905 OPS, if he could somehow get his road splits to be less then .150 OPS away, you could be looking at a guy next year who could be counted on producing a .850 OPS throughout the whole season. Also his BABIP at home is .100 points higher then his BABIP on the road (.257) what does this mean?
  12. Another bomb. It's pretty clear Justin is swinging the bat much better these days.
  13. Yeah, I would like it since you would have to use strategy a bit more (and have that 6th starter be important throughout the season) The baseball season is to damn long at this point, chop a week off the beginning and a week off the end.
  14. Yeah, I too think there should be more double headers along with shortening the season to 154 games. Maybe you play a double header 2 days out of the month? I think it would be good for the sport.
  15. Question: Would bringing Pinto up burn an option?
  16. No you aren't As long as you aren't hit in the wrist, face, head, ankle, elbow, balls, etc you will be fine getting hit
  17. As much as I would like to see him in sept I don't think it's a good idea, I don't see a whole lotta good that comes out of it. If he struggles then who knows, if he does well, then you have to start him next year in the majors and burn a year of team control. Keep him in AA the rest of the year, start him in AAA next year and call him up in June
  18. Yeah....QO is probably not going to happen unless he suddenly turns it into the Morneau of old...regardless, if it seems like he can post a .780-.800 OPS I think the Twins should certainly bring him back for another 1-2 years. He isn't going to cost a fortune, and I am guessing he would be willing to give some sort of discount as well. One thing is for sure, they will have to wait for him to hit FA since they will be asking for a significant cut in his 13mil salary. I am thinking 2 years 12 mil with 4 mil in incentives each year? That way if he stays healthy he gets back to 10 mil a year salary.
  19. Very unlikely he makes it to someone like Texas or Yankees, someone else would block em. Perhaps the best bet at this point is for him to catch on fire the rest of the way, then offer him a qualifying offer? Let him either walk and get a pick or sign him to a 2 year deal. Either way, very nice to see Morneau doing well again one way or another!
  20. Since the trade deadline 3 HR 1.200 OPS
  21. He was at 109 pitches and was out of gas. The last thing you wanna do is leave him in to long. Shutouts/complete games are pretty meaningless.
  22. How is Double A considered "Low in the system?"
  23. Oh yay! Another payroll discussion!
  24. I doubt Willingham makes it to the Rangers, he still is a nice bat on a decent contract where a team like the Royals, Yankees etc would likely block them. (No way the Twins just let him goto a team anyways) The best bet is for Willingham to come back, hit well and then either trade him this off-season or sometime next season when his value is actually back up a bit.
  25. Garza is a jackass, you can tell by that douche goatee he has, also Pat Neshek burned him pretty good this morning.
