  1. True. I was more referring to the Golden Calf (Garrett Jones) however.
  2. I think using blown saves as an argument is the pitching equivalent to using RBI's as an argument if you were comparing two players. i.e. Player X has a .900 OPS but only 75 RBI while Player Y has a .780 OPS and 85 RBI, therefore you don't really need Player X since Player Y is driving int hose runs. Kimbrel is an absolute beast on the mound and is on pace to become on of the best relief pitchers in baseball history (long ways to go health wise etc)
  3. I personally wouldn't. Lindsey is the only legit prospect on there and doesn't project to have "star" type potential. It would take a lot, lot more IMO
  4. Or if you listen to the guys that are actual true "experts" and know what goes on: i.e. the players, the coaches etc.
  5. The bullpen is bigger than "one guy" IMHO until you have 3 guys that are shut down type guys in the pen you don't have some insane abundance. The Twins currently have one in Perkins, if Burdi comes up and is the second coming, then you have two in the pen with a solid 7th inning guy in Fien. If some how they then land another shut down type guy in the pen at that point you look to trade Perkins (or Burdi or whoever) since you suddenly have an abundance of them. As Brock mentioned as well, Perkins value 16 months from now would likely be the same (or better) than it is now anyways.
  6. Correia for Delmon young. Get it done Terry!
  7. I think it's up to Buxton on when he will be up next year, all signs point to him being back at 100% It isn't too much of a reach to think he gets 2 nice months in AA to start the year and is in Minnesota sometime in June. The thing with Arcia is we knew the whole time his strike out rate/low walk rate could bite him in the ass in the majors. Now, that is a concern with most prospects, but it was a big reason why he was never really a "top 50" type guy. Sano/Buxton should have significantly less to adjust to because of the sheer talent they bring to the table. My point is they have 10 young guys that all have pretty solid potential to be at least above average major leaguers, 3 of those guys project to be "stars" in Sano, Buxton and Meyer. Also you have some young guys who have struggled at times but still have plenty of years/potential left like: Hicks, Pinto, Arcia. If the Twins even have average luck with the number of those guys that pan out (along with some solid FA signings) then it isn't hard to see them being at least a 85 or so win team next year with the potential to really take off if guys like Sano/Buxton come on like gangbusters.
  8. It's a bit of an apples and oranges scenario. Buxton, Sano and Meyer are all better prospects then those three listed. Arcia is basically comparable to Vargas, and plus you have many more like May, Berrios, Rosario, Walker etc
  9. Yes/no. While its never a good idea to count the prospect eggs before they hatch, it should be noted that the current crop that should be here in 2015: May, Meyer, Sano, Buxton. Absolutely dwarf those of the last 10 or so years of crops about to hit the majors. That doesn't even include guys like: Vargas, Burdi, Berrios, Rosario who could make significant impacts as well. Toss in a couple of young kids with talent like Arcia and Pinto and you are looking at 10 guys who all have the potential to be above average major leaguers (of course not all of them will reach that, some will hopefully be studs, and some will bust) but that is an insane number of guys who have potential as early as 2015 (if not the last few months of this season) Additionally they have enough money to bring in another 2 bats or so as well. I'd prefer they stay away from the FA pitching market unless they want to bring in a legit ace/#2 guy. Any guy that projects as a middle to back end of the rotation shouldn't even be considered since we have: Hughes, Gibson, Meyer, May, Nolasco, Pelfrey, Pino etc Basically this looks a lot like when the Twins became a very good team in the early 2000's with core guys coming up through the system more or less like: Hunter, Cuddyer, Mauer, Morneau, Santana, Liriano etc Hopefully Perkins/Mauer are a lot like our Radke/Koskie during this resurgence of bridging the "Crappy Twins" to the "Division winning year after year Twins!"
  10. Yeah, the only one I can see bringing back a solid haul is Suzuki. The bummer with Willingham has always been that it is never that hard to get no field big bat type guys on the FA market/trade deadline. Maybe he can heat up a bit though and Ryan can get someone to overpay a bit (He has done it before for sure) Correia is what he is, a solid #5 who is better then what you can get from the waiver wire, but not THAT much better where you are going to part with a legitimate prospect. However I could see them getting back a cost controllable bullpen arm in return or a lottery ticket type prospect.
  11. With the way Twins----> Pirates players end up performing, let me say that I personally can't wait to see Willingham hit 30 HR in 60 games for them and Correia turn into the ace he always had inside him.
  12. It's worth mentioning that pretty much any team in baseball can afford taking on Perkins contract. He is on pace for a 2+ WAR season this year, which makes his 6.5 million (which he doesn't make until the last year) a freaking steal. (NTM his 4 mil and 4.6 mil in 2014/2015)
  13. Very well said. I know its still early, but with the prospects coming up for 2015, along with the current crop and some payroll flexibility to fill some holes (I think Ryan did pretty damn well this off-season) I would be shocked if the Twins didn't at least "Compete" next year and finish a few games over .500 at the least, if things break right they could take a relatively winnable division. Also don't forget getting a healthy/effective Nolasco back at some point is just like making a trade
  14. In this day of age you really need 2-3 shut down arms in a pen ideally, if Burdi comes up and is lights out you suddenly have a very formidable pen (think of the Yankees Robertson/Rivera combo last year) The thing at this point is as solid as the Twins pen has been this year there aren't any real "shut down" guys besides Perkins on this team, Fien is a nice player and all but in a perfect world I think you aim a bit higher for your "8th" inning guy and have Fien as your 7th inning guy. Fien-Burdi-Perkins could be a very formidable/key part of a Twins resurgence in 2015/16/17 IMHO Also, Perkins is probably my favorite player on the Twins team, I would personally be sad to see him go, especially if we get a couple of ho hum prospects or what not in return. As a poster mentioned above, we should only trade long term assets if we have a surplus of them in the majors/major league ready at this point. Perkins is the only Twin who strikes out more than a batter an inning.
  15. I wouldn't trade him. He agreed to a very team friendly long term deal in order to stay in Minnesota. He is signed under very good terms until potentially 2018, when the Twins very much should be world series contenders by then. (I think they compete in 2015 and have a big run from 2015-2018) Unless the return is insane (top flight SS or ace type pitcher) I think you absolutely hold onto him. Trading him the same year after he took a team friendly deal in order to stay in Minnesota would look really bad on the org and could hurt them on signing such deals in the future. Glen clearly likes/wants to be here, the Twins clearly like having him on the club. Just keep him. The farm system is deep enough, at some point you need talent on the major league roster as well otherwise you turn into the 1990-2012 version of the KC Royals.
  16. I have never understood the hate towards Boras, but that is a discussion for another day I suppose.
  17. That would be gut wrenching to watch :-/
  18. He has risen! How's it going?
  19. Interesting development.... surprised they aren't giving him another start. Seth in addition to a "injury" could he be called up earlier due to a trade? (Correia) I'd have to say since they are sending him down (and keeping him down for 10 days) that it would have to be May or Meyer. Though Meyer I still maintain will be up July 31st.
  20. Glad to hear they are at least "Talking" I would be more than happy with 2/12 or so, and if they have to give him 3 years to keep him around I wouldn't be too upset since the total dollars wouldn't be insane. I agree with Kab, I don't think its a given he is going to net some stud in return, if the offer isn't up to snuff I wouldn't mind that they just keep him, keep trying to sign him and then possibly lose him at the end of the year. The Twins have a super deep system, losing out on a low upside type prospect who would slot into the 20-30 range in this org wouldn't be the end of the world. One other thing that should be brought up/thought about: Pitch framing stats etc etc aside, I think we can all agree Suzuki is a solid "veteran" behind the dish who knows what he is doing and calls a "good" game. With May/Meyer on the cusp of coming up, it may be a nice thing for the Twins to have a legit veteran behind the dish instead of oh say.... Pinto or Fryer etc. when they come up.
  21. Nice win, the Twins really needed this one. Now 4 games over .500 against the AL Central, with the next 12 games against them it would be very prudent if they could move that record to about 10 over .500 against them by the end of it Glad to see Johnson pitch well, I think he has certainly earned another start. I'm sure some of the masses will bemoan that May/Meyer aren't up for his start, but those two guys will get a crack at Correia's spot when he is very likely traded. Like I mentioned, you can never have enough good pitching, guys like Pino/Johnson can become our 5th/6th pitcher types if need be next year: Hughes Meyer Gibson Nolasco May ........ Johnson/Pino
  22. Glad to see Johnson pitch a solid game, even though he won't stick for long this year most likely it is good to know we have the AAA depth to fill in for injuries etc. At the very least we wont have to sign any back end of the rotation types this year.
  23. If the franchise ceased to exist tomorrow, the rest of my life would be much more happy.
  24. Yeah, it sounds like he wants to go nuclear on them at this point. I really hope he doesn't start throwing other players and crap under the bus, i.e "One time Adrian Peterson said he doesn't like X because of their constant Y" If he wants to complain some more about Pfiefer etc, fine, just leave the players out of it for the love of rocketpig.
