  1. Yup!Even if acter comes up and goes lights out as your 8th inning guy, Benoit still gives you some nice value as a 7th inning guy. If acter and Oliveros dominate then Benoit still gives you nice value as a 6th inning or depth guy. I do think he is instantly better then Fien, Boyer, Duensing and Graham. As mentioned plenty of room!
  2. with your Thompson example you have successfully shown why using FiP as an end all be all is the right answer. He outperforms his FiP every year for the last 3 and puts up very good results. (Sub 3.00) most of his last 5 years (including this year) The guy gets results and strikes out a good number of hitters. He instantly would be the twins 2nd best RP. Assuming that Acter, Tonkin and Oliveros are going to step in and dominate is a recipe for disaster. As mentioned you can still bring them up and have plenty of room for Benoit. Up
  3. And what stats would those be? His FIP is still fine and makes him one of the best options on the twins.
  4. You can trade for Benoit and still bring up Acter, Oliveros etc. it's not like there is only one spot avail in the pen. I don't see why so many are uninterested, he would easily be the 2nd best RP the twins have had in the last few seasonsx
  5. Can't argue too much with that, I think Clippard and Papelbon are a tick above him, but maybe I am just swayed because they are both closers. Which brings up another point, since Benoit isn't a current "proven closer", that likely means his price tag is going to be less than "proven closers" like Clippard, Papelbon and Matt Capps Plus, you don't have to worry about the "proven closer" being upset that he is now an 8th inning guy instead of a "proven closer" with his new team.
  6. Moving Plouffe to SS and having Sano at 3B only makes sense if you have a rotation full of guys capable of striking out 10+ a game. It makes even less sense when you have guys like Gibson who rely on the ground ball to get a lot of outs (and keep their ERA's down) If the Twins can find a catcher who can hit, it really doesn't matter if you have a guy like Escobar/Nunez/Santana combo playing SS and batting 9th each night.
  7. Per MLBTrade Rumors, sounds like that Twins could be interested in Benoit from the Padres. Though I would prefer an elite shutdown guy like papelbon or clippard I would be all for this move. He is owed about 4 million the rest of this season, so that is not an issue, there is a 8 mil team option for 2016 with a 1.5 mill buy out. Guy has been very consistent/solid each year since 2010. Unlike most of our other current options he also can strike guys out as well (8.3 k/9 this year, 9.7 k/9 the last 3 years). Probably wouldn't cost a whole lot either, and instantly upgrades the bullpen and gives us a pretty damn reliable guy we can put out in the 8th inning.
  8. Reminds me of a time the Twins had another 4 WAR player they decided to trade...his name was Denard Span and that deal has killed the Twins thus far. I wouldn't be in a rush to trade a valuable player like Plouffe unless you get something truly special and can't miss in return. 3 WAR a year catcher would make sense.
  9. Hunter is still a respected hitter, I have confidence that he can "make teams pay" for walking Sano. Maybe Hicks ends up being the 5 hitter if he can keep this up?
  10. Why on earth would you trade one of your best hitters in Plouffe in the middle of a pennant race? All that does is create another black hole in the lineup. (Sano moves to 3B, and DH becomes some combo of Vargas, Escobar, Nunez again) There isn't a logjam yet, no need to trade Plouffe.
  11. The Twins are smart, I wish they would sign him today, but that may be to early and maybe you don't want to mess with a good thing/put to much pressure on him ASAP. However I bet they will visit with Sano about locking him in during this off-season. Maybe a compromise of buying out his first 2 free agent years, that allows Sano to get a nice guaranteed check while still keeping him line for a MONSTER pay day down the road.(Where the Twins could always extend him a few years down the road as well)

    Hicks

Yeah K% only matters if you are making good contact, fortunately for Hicks, even his outs (and fall balls) are traveling quite a long ways and is making GREAT contact these last couple weeks. He had a couple hits the past couple days that would have been home runs in nearly every other park.
  13. Thoughts on the Austin Dillon wreck? Can't believe he walked away from that.
  14. That comment was in jest. I still think he could benefit from some time in AAA, he looks over matched a lot and swings at way to many bad pitches. The twins need to be focused on making the playoffs, at this point I think their best three OF overall for 2015 would be buxton (when he gets healthy) hicks and hunter.
  15. Sano might become the first 4 outcome player: strike out, walk, double or home run. His approach at the plate is amazing, he is going to be a very special player, he instantly makes this lineup so so so much better. Also he looked the part at 3B today.

    Hicks

Perfect example is they pitched around him and They walked him in the 7th to get to fryer.

    Hicks

Another day another great game by hicks. Dude is hitting the ball hard now, even RHP which is encouraging.
  18. Next at bat after this post was a double (and a nice catch in LF) Works. Every. Time.
  19. Lost at the plate, lost in the field. Send him down, bring Buxton back up when healthy.
  20. They can all meet at Frankie Rodriguezs bar for a drink.
  21. Bad player replaces bad player, more news at 11!

    Hicks

Mauer isn't going back to catcher, people just need to accept this and move on. It. Isn't. Happening. Ever. Talking about it is as fruitless as talking about Johan Santana coming back for the twins and becoming a Cy Young candidate again. It's beyond time to move on.
  23. I was sitting one section over from his home run, he didn't even come close to hitting that square, 95% of ball players hit it like that and it's a lazy fly ball to the LF. His power is remarkable.

    Hicks

This last week hicks reminds me a lot of when hunter finally started hitting and "stuck" even his outs are hard hit these days.
