  1. Congrats to Hicks! The more concerning thing to me is Pelfrey who came in second (can't really argue with that) If the Twins hope to take another step forward next year (90 wins), they will need multiple guys "improving" quite a bit next season. Buxton, May, Hughes, Nolasco, Arcia, Rosario, Mauer seem like some potential ones next season.
  2. The thing that jumps out to me is Dozier, in the first half we were talking MVP candidate, by the end of the year he was mearly average. Gotta improve. Plouffe, no reason whatsoever to keep him around, put Sano at 3B and have Vargas or another bat at DH. Hunter, no reason whatsoever to keep him around either, Arcia can match those numbers and if he can't you have Kepler. Or you can sign about 40 different FA that can beat those numbers as well. Mauer, it is what it is. I hope he can bounce back next season.
  3. a. Sano+Rosario+Duffey+Ervin Santana+Improved Hicks (Not to mention a healthy dose of luck in situational hitting/pitching just check out their ranks in hitting and pitching categories) b.SSS
  4. I think he would get along with Harper who for the most part plays the game extremely hard and at 110%, plus Harper seems to be a solid teamate. Papelbon, who knows, maybe Gardy and his laid back nature is what is needed a bit? Francona did pretty well with Papelbon in Boston after all.
  5. Yeah, his reputation around the league and especially amongst other fans is very very positive, I think the Nats and their fans would be immediately thrilled. It's hard to argue with the success he had in Minnesota with teams that didn't have 75% of the talent that exists on the Nationals.
  6. Porcello was absolutely terrible this year FWIW.
  7. His strike outs and late season "struggles" (Still posted a .800 OPS over Sept/Oct) indicates that if we are ever going to be able to get him at even a slight discount, now is the time. Is there risk? Absolutely, could it not "work out"? Absolutely. With a talent like this I think the risk is more than worth it. Ultimately at the end of the day I will never blame a team for paying for elite talent, sometimes it doesn't work out (Mauer), but at least they tried and gave the money to elite guys instead of a bunch of average guys spread out.
  8. Good work guys, lots of solid content on a daily basis. Extra bonus thanks to Parker whose anaylsis is second to none. Hopefully next year we can see some playoff baseball.
  9. Yeah, he would be foolish to take that job.
  10. Ah, replace Angels with Mariners then.
  11. I actually like Hughes a lot as a bounceback guy. If healthy he becomes another nice piece.
  12. Duffey's curve ball is legit, there aren't that many adjustments one can make on him. He also has a very solid and consitent minor league track record and is only 24, which still puts him a couple years away from his prime. Heading into 2016 with no changes: I think Santana is our top pitcher, Duffey number 2, Berrios number 3, May 4, Gibson 5, Hughes 6, Milone 7, Nolasco 8. Berrios won't be up for a minute, but I already have him ahead of Hughes, Gibby, Milone etc. This is why I think Gibson and Milone should be shopped aggressively. (Nolaco and Hughes would take us eating a big part of the contract)
  13. Gibson turns 28 in a couple weeks, I'm not sure I agree with him having more ceiling to show. His career ERA, IP and FIP suggest he is closer to a 4/5 then a 3.
  14. I think he would be a fantastic hire for them, Matt Williams by all accounts had very little personality and was a poor communicator. Gardy always seemed like a "players coach" who got along with most everyone and kept things rather loose. I would be interested to see how he would deal with the egos of Papelbon and Harper, the Twins never had anyone that rocked the boat like those two. I also think Gardy would be a good fit in Anaheim or Detroit if both jobs end up open.
  15. Agreed, I don't understand it at all and I think the OP was way off base by implying people had an issue with Hunter being black (versus his production) While many disagree with what Hunter has said politically, about Homosexuality etc, it has never been about race and always has been about substance, even then, 99% of the people arguing for him not to be back have been using results/production as the reason why. Lastly, I have probably had the most "issues" with mods on TD, but they do a pretty damn good job overall.

  17. As a 23 year old Arcia hit 20 HR in 103 games and posted an above average OPS. Under no scenario should he not be protected and under no scenario should he be traded for pennies on the dollar. If he is traded, just wait for him to be crushing 25-30 HR a year for a smart team like Oakland or the Blue Jays.
  18. Hindsight: They should have signed Nelson Cruz like I called for. They should have actually fixed the pen prior to the season, during the season and before the deadline like everyone seemed to be calling for. I actually don't mind the Santana expirment, I think they stuck with him a tad too long at SS, but I get why they gave him a long leash. They should have gotten a legit back up catcher, this would have allowed them to rest Suzuki once in a while in the first half. May never should have been taken out of the rotation, especially not in favor of Pelfrey.
  19. I'm not sure where this "Harvey has worn out his welcome" bit has come from, but living in NY I can tell you this isn't the case at all, the "drama" has been limited and the Mets found a way to limit his innings towards the end of the regular season. Harvey is 26 years old, is under team control until 2019, boasts a 9.5 k/9 2.0 bb/9 rate and a lifetime 2.53 ERA. Besides a very select few (Trout, Harper, Lindor etc) Harvey has some of the highest trade value in all of baseball. The Mets likely won't be shopping him at all anytime in the next two years, and if they were to shop him now, it would take a package of at least one of Buxton/Sano+Kepler+Berrios type. I would give up Buxton and Kepler for Harvey in a heartbeat FWIW, but it won't happen.
  20. Dude, nobody is bashing him or criticizing him. This is the 2nd post in this thread were you are going out of your way to create an issue out of nothing. If you think someone crossed the line, then message a mod, nobody insinuated anything.
  21. Harvey would cost at the very least Buxton and another huge asset. We aren't landing him
  22. Hunter has already said (twins baseball.com yesterday) that he has no desire to come back and be a part time player "why would I want to play 81 games? No thanks" If thats the case, you can't bring him back. Arcia, Buxton and Kepler all need at bats at some point next year. If he would be fine with a part time/platoon with Arcia to start the year? Fine. If not? Time to move on.
  23. them getting hurt is a perfect example on why you don't buy out those arb years.... Blackburn also wasn't very good even when he was healthy FYI
  24. Sano won't play third. I think maybe he sits. Hunter likely plays as well as it may or may not be his last game ever (or in a Twins uniform) maybe start hunter and pull him after a few innings?
  25. I wouldn't mind Desmond, but I don't think there is any chance whatsoever the Twins sign him
