  1. Off topic a bit. My GF and I are actually scheduled to fly out to Paris this upcoming Saturday for 8 days (has been planned for several months) I'm not worried about safety or anything (NYC basically desensitizes you to such things) and things will be on high alert in Paris. What I am concerned about is it appropriate to go and "vacation" in a place that just had such a terrible event happen at it? I'm not a big fan of the "don't let the terrorists effect our plans, then they win!" Idea, I'm just curious on how the parisans and the city are going to be in the next couple weeks. We are 50/50 at this point (I am pushing for us to keep the trip as is) so any thoughts are encouraged.
  2. I wish! That wouldn't happen though.
  3. Spending 12 million to outbid "everyone" goes in the semi aggressive range. 12 million for a bid isn't much at all when you compare to most of the top Asian and Cuban players
  4. So basically you are making a point of mine for me, nolasco being the third highest FA pitcher signing is hilarious. Don't waste money on late rotation guys like nolasco! Also that was only pitchers, overall nolasco was 9th most overall (aka not an impact signing to begin with)
  5. IMO The hard reality is that Isis isn't going to "settle" for that Solution. It may work for a few years but then they will want more and more. World hunger: I agree with you 100%, however we have so much freaking waste in this country but we can't figure out how to stop starvation from stopping here. I am just wary of the idea we can fix that problem globally until we fix it domestically.
  6. I have nothing good to say about the Pohlad family. So I agree with you there.
  7. The difference between wieters and cespedes or heyward is like 3-4 more years and about 80 million dollars.
  8. Santana is not an ace, nor ever has been an ace. He is much more mid rotation then he is "front of the rotation" most would agree, and the stats point to it as well. Note: I would love to try to get shields via trade, that is the exact buy low aim high type move, plenty of upside left for him IMO
  9. true no easy solution!
  10. Here is another question: in the last 20 seasons Ryan+Smith era, how many teams in baseball have won one or less post season series? Is this the group of franchises we want to continue be a part of?
  11. that's not an aggressive move, that is basically a league average FA contract for a guy who is a mid rotation guy. When was the last time the twins even tried to bring in an ace or a great position player?
  12. Signing an ace or impact bat (or trading for one) even once would be showing aggressiveness. I said I liked the Pak signing, but let's pump the breaks for a minute, his 12 mil posting fee is extremely small when you compare to past posting fees paid for premium players. Signing Chris Davis would be an aggressive move, signing Cueto would be an aggressive move, hell even signing Cruz last year would have been an aggressive move, signing Pak is a good move but no where near what they could do. Ditto with Santana, nolasco, etc The last 17 seasons with Ryan at the helm has shown us very little in results, how about for once we try to bring in a game changer type player?
  13. even if you could dump the nolasco contract in exchange for him? Papelbon is a douche, but I think he might be smart enough to keep his **** together so that one day he might have value on the FA market again. I wouldn't give up anything of value for him, nor would I take him on for just his salary. Nolasco needs to be a part.
  14. I hate sending in troops but the US has a responsibility to do so at this point, if we didn't bungle everything up by invading and destabilizing the region when we went on W's revenge mission against Saddam, it's highly likely that ISIS would be nowhere near the threat they are currently, I don't know how you "wipe" them out though, their end goal is world annihilation and nothing else, that is a hard enemy to fight.
  15. the Wieters move/thought was before he signed with the Orioles with the QO. Kepler and a mid level prospect or two might get you Lucroy, the brewers are in full rebuild mode. I would gladly give up Gibson+Stewart+ prospect for Lucroy. There is my answer for you, my question for you and others is naming the last time Terry Ryan was ever truly aggressive?
  16. Jepsen worked out, but again we gave up to much to acquire him. I liked bringing in a RP but didn't like giving up an asset like Hu to get him. Also, only adding Jepsen was a mistake as the pen still let us down overall down the stretch run, Ryan gets a C- overall for the deadline. Should have tried to fix the pen much earlier, and should have gotten more than just one arm. Hu could end being a real nice pitcher as well. Again it was Ryan refusing to be aggressive at the deadline that sank the twins chances to make the playoffs(just like he has in his other 16 deadlines and 17 off seasons)
  17. Lucroy (would have given up Kepler), Norris, plawecki, and I would have given Weiters 3 years 45
  18. Agreed, I just don't think it's the most likely outcome. I hope Murphy proves me wrong, big time
  19. Wieters would need to catch 130 games and hit about 30 HR's before someone is going to give him 5 years and 100 million. Lifetime OPS+ of 100. Last 3 years OPS+ of 98. He will never sniff a 100 million deal, and wouldn't get more than McCann. I imagine if he could have gotten 3/45 this off-season he would have taken it.
  20. Nice pick up. However they need to get at least one more arm they can truly count on in the late innings, Benoit would have been an nice target but he is already traded, plenty of other arms on the market that can be legit 7th/8th guys. Clippard, Storen etc.
  21. It stands to reason that he took the QO because he couldn't get a 3 year or longer deal on the open market. I would have prob been cool with a 3 year deal for Wieters, but it is what it is. Norris, Lucroy, Plawecki etc were and all still available.
  22. Nolasco+Suzuki for Papelbon and Ramos.
  23. Highly doubtful, especially since both are 1B or LF
  24. Very, very sad stuff
