  1. Padres just signed James Shields. There is a very recent one with a team with equal or less revenue. Nationals signed Mad Max, there is another recent one with similar revenue. I provided plenty of examples earlier of both teams signing guys long term and teams trading for guys, you clearly don't care/won't budge from your stance, so I am done responding to this same question for the 10th time in the 4th different thread. If you want to see my answers, go back and look in the thread earlier for the countless examples that I stated.
  2. Same here, I have repeated that at least half the problem is never pulling the trigger on a one year rental/game changer as well.
  3. It will be, people's emotions are still raw and shaken from the Paris attacks, and these *******s are joining it to get everyone more scared and riled up, come a month from now we will look back at this and just shake our heads at what Huckabee (I know he isn't running), Trump, Carson, and all those governors have said.
  4. I know, I just didn't want people to think I was trying to "troll" or something
  5. But what you implied is actually racist. That's fine, I don't hold it against you, everyone has their own prejudices in some form, I'm not calling you a racist, I'm just saying your scenario you suggested is racist. Just own it.
  6. Meh, xFIP and FIP have there place, but when a guy has 600 IP and 3 seasons under his belt with a very good ERA, maybe its time to realize that his ERA is closer to what he is then his FIP or XFIP, I'm a results guy, either Miller is a very good pitcher or he is the luckiest pitcher in baseball over the course of three years. I'm going with the former. And he is a much better Kyle Gibson for many reasons. This is just another classic case of people falling in love with a stat xFIP without looking at the bigger picture.
  7. I stand by the mediocre title, settling (i.e. not changing up any real personal in the FO, not changing your approach to trade and free agency) while you only win one playoff series in 17 (or 20 if you include the Bill Smith era) is mediocrity defined. So thus, the Twins organization have been settling for mediocrity, unfortunately for them the fans haven't been, which is why attendance took a nose dive.
  8. I already have, multiple times in this thread and others, you choose to ignore it. Here are are a couple more that I didn't mention above (I have already provided a dozen or so examples): The Reds traded for Ken Griffey Junior (MVP Type) The Royals traded for Johnny Cueto (Ace) (Super recent too!)
  9. Yeah, that sounds about right in terms of value, as mentioned I would gladly give up Kepler as a headliner along with some other pieces. Not sure I could pull the trigger on Sano and Buxton, Berrios for Miller straight up would be very intriguing for me to be honest.
  10. Um when did I ever say anything close to that? Most top pitching prospects don't come up and dominate and most never dominate at anypoint. Shelby Miller has like 600 IP of very, very good results. That is my point, he is a known with some additional upside to boot, while Berrios is still very much an unknown. The NL vs AL stuff tends to get blown out of proportion as well.
  11. Sheesh, no kidding! The Berrios love has gone completely off the rails, people are in for a disappointment if they think Berrios is going to put up 3.02,3.74, 3.06 ERA's in his first three years.
  12. I'd be 100% for bringing in Cueto, Zimmerman? Put me at about 95% though I still think he is a great pitcher. Miller I think is a good option as well, and a better "bet" for a move that Ryan and Co would actually make.
  13. Shelby is the exact pitcher the Twins should be targeting, low risk and high upside. Anyone who says he is closer to a #3 is nuts! In two of his last 3 seasons he has started more than 31 games with an ERA lower than 3.10! His "bad" season was a 3.74 ERA, and he is only 25. I would give up Kepler and another piece (someone in the 8-12 range in a heartbeat for him)
  14. Taking the red eye back to NYC tonight, I never can sleep on these damn things but I am looking forward to checking out some more Mr Robot episodes!
  15. Yeah that's the weird part, it's one thing to disagree with me saying that we should be aggressive, but to somehow deny or say that Terry Ryan hasn't been conservative is just out there. By all sports definitions TR has been one of the most conservative GMs in baseball, if not all professional sports.
  16. Yeah, this is a bizzarre analogy. 99.99% of white people have stood by genocides for centuries committed by other "white people" on "white people"
  17. K-Rod would have been a no brainer. I would be shocked if the Twins bring in an arm of his equal or better.
  18. Again, nobody is doing that....
  19. Agreed, 90 win seasons in weak divisions don't mean much, it's not like the twins got suddenly super unlucky in the playoffs (though bad luck has its part) every single series these lost with the exception of the Oakland series they were signicanr under dogs in the series to begin with. Hence, they never had a team with a "legit" shot at a title, or only once in twenty five years, but that is stretching it a bit.
  20. Yup. At no point has anyone suggested that the Twins go all Yankees or Red Sox on the FA market, claiming that these are people's arguments just derails the conversation.
  21. Great thoughts. We need more of them on BOTH sides.
  22. The amount of racist bile coming out of the GOP nominations lately (an their supporters) in regards to the Syria refugees makes me seriously ashamed to be an American. I honestly haven't felt that before. 750,000 refugees have come to the USA since 9/11, exactly zero have committed terrorist acts that have killed anyone. Meanwhile we can't go a ****ing month without some lonely white citizen taking out a dozen or so at a school, mall or movie theatre. I'm summation: http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=WD3lgI9QIV8
  23. Perfectly summed up. I'm not sure there are any teams in any professional sports that would allow 20 years of results like this without changing up something in the front office.
  24. We could do this all day, since there have been many examples that going for it works: (See: this years two world series teams) Nothing is 100% foolproof and sometimes things won't work out, but have things worked out for the Twins the last 17 and 25 years? Nope.
