  1. The closer idea seems exciting. If he can throw in the low 90s after 100 pitches then how hard could he throw for 1 inning? That said, it is still really early. Closers can be found; they need to continue working the path to being and MLB starting pitcher. Even if it took a few years, I think it would be worth it.
  2. So it seems that the hits/9 is the issue. Thank you for the breakdown of the hits from last night. What is being said are the overall issues on that stat? Is his fastball straight? Is it location? It would be interesting to hear opinions on this because if he is strong enough to throw in the 90s after he passes 100 pitches, changes speeds, establishes first-pitch strikes (something Gibson does not do!), and strikes out so many people, one would think he would have more success. Thanks for the article.
  3. Thanks for that stat. That is a pretty poor line and that would explain things. Working from behind over 50% of the time is not going to help.
  4. What does Gibson need to do to throw 2-3 less pitches per inning? 78 through 5 innnings is too many and he always seems to be right there.
  5. Starting in AAA makes such good sense. Folks need to face the idea that when his current deal is up that the Twins will not be able to or will choose not to afford him. The team needs to preserve every year of control.
  6. Colabello's 6th inning at bat included 6 pitches that were all inner half or farther in. With 4 oppo HRs I will bet he will get pitched in a lot.
  7. I love it. It will be interesting to see if he hits that same HR at Target Field. In TF that is a tough shot.
  8. No matter what I think about Doziers future, let me say that thank god he is with us now. Without Dozier the Twins would have scored very few runs during the last 10 days. Wow.
  9. That may be right. Whatever drove the decision, I think it was a good one and they have invested 2 years in this project. Let it run.
  10. Please leave Rosario alone. I feel strongly that to take him off of the 2B path is an error. If he was meant to be a star outfielder then they would have left him there. He has shown to be a great hitter at every level of the minors and all reports say his D is improving. Dozier had a similar A+ / AA (combined) year like Rosario is having now but he did that at age 24 with less power and less RBIs. I say that assuming that Rosario completes this year at the same pace he is on now. We have corner outfielders in the hopper and let’s hope they continue to develop. I do like Dozier and as Seth showed, in the latter 57 games of this year he has been good but it is .262 good. How good is that? IMO the scenario we want is that he continues to improve and so does Rosario so when the time is right, the Twins can use one of them to get more pitching because both are solid second baseman. When you put Rosario at LF or RF then his numbers become a lot less impressive but if you leave him at 2B he can be exceptional. I think that if they leave Rosario at 2B that in 2017 the Twins will look back and rejoice that they made that decision because they may have one of the best-hitting second basemen in the MLB. If you want to say Dozier's performance is headed in the right direction that is one thing. To start saying he is the future is something very different.
  11. I appreciate that darin617 took one for the team with that post. It could easily have been me. Thank you.
  12. It is hard to not agree with this. Many have said that Rosario will make a run at the 2b job next year and we will see if that is true. Whoever gets the job, the team cannot settle for such poor offense at that position. 15 HR with low OBP and low average is worthless. A second baseman needs to get on base.
  13. It makes me laugh how so many of these sites still list Sano at 6'3" and 195. Wasn't that about 45 pounds ago?
  14. I agree with Maxisgod because I support the "old time" school of thought. He should hit the ball and get moving. Also, if/when a player does that to a Twins pitcher then I think he should get a fastball to the back when he comes to the plate in future. I don't support going after somebody's head but I believe in sending a message. If Alex Meyer was on the mound for that and he did not plunk Sano in the back during his next at bat then might it be said that he is soft and does not have attitude and swagger? I DON’T mean hitting somebody for hitting a HR; that is crap. I mean for showing up my team. For those of you who say you support the attitude and the swagger that is watching an HR for an excessive amount of time then you really have to accept that he will get thrown at later. It is a trade-off because that is same attitude and swagger but coming from a pitcher.
  15. Thank you. Somehow being called a Sasquatch started my day with a smile.
  16. All of these points are very good and make more sense. A vet like Morneau should have had a smarter approach.
  17. I don't see the point to this. Blah, blah....90 loss season. Blah, blah, weak line up. Blah, blah, blah. I get it. It is a tough time. Why lead with such pessimism? Hey, in case anybody was not aware, the Twins have not been very good lately. The point is the team was robbed of an extra out with a person in scoring position that could have lead to a sweep instead of simply winning a series. Winning yesterday's game would not have catapulted the Twins into winning the Central but it could have been a win. All games and outs are important and there is always a chance. I refuse to get pulled into this negative mindset and I hope the Twins feel the same way. If they were to think that way then they may never escape the cellar.
  18. My thoughts clarified- "a future" to me does not necessarily mean that they will be around when the Twins are relevant. It means that they are at least part of a plan to make that happen. You need to fill positions and put players on the field. If a player is up at AAAA then, in my opinion, they need to be part of the group that will be around when the Twins are more relevant or they need to be holding a spot for a younger person who is working towards being mlb-ready. I feel that all the players you listed are part on one of those columns except for Pelfrey. He is another topic. Butera is not keeping a spot warm nor is he future. The twins have 2 catchers at AAAA. Butera serves no purpose.
  19. I have no issue with Oswaldo not be called up. He is 22 and part of a future. If he needs to stay in Roch, get his head straight and kill the ball for a while then so be it. I simply do not understand why Butera would get the call. Unless absolutely necessary, nobody should be up at AAAA unless they are part of a plan for the future. What part does Butera play? The Twins currently have 2 catchers at AAAA. I just do not get this.
  20. I cannot believe I forgot pinto. what about May? Too many walks?
  21. Is Goodrum's arm that much better? Could Polanco be a legit SS? His playing time seems half 2nd, half ss.
  22. Minor League Ball Top 75 Prospects: Mid-Season Update - Minor League Ball Sickels posted his list today but he does not have Stewart or any of the other recent draft picks. I guess his criteria involves a bit more pro playing time. Opinions please- what others could make it on to these lists at the end of the season? Berrios, May, Kepler, Polanco, Walker? Are they of that level?
  23. Beyond the usual suspects I would take and occasional look at Aderlin Mejia. He is having a nice year at ft. myers and before this year I don't remember seeing him on any prospect charts. He does not have power but his avg is 330+ and OBP is 390 in 56 games. He is playing primarily SS but has games at a few other positions. He has only 2 errors but I don't know if his arm is for real. Any glimmer of hope for a future SS is nice.
  24. This makes a lot of sense to me. Parmalee is not doing well but there is some hope of a future at his age and he has played a nice RF. He should not be moved or let go. If they can make room for Colabellosie then I hope they do. 2 years may be all the Twins need before a younger player can move into the spot. He is not just doing well at AAA he is killing it and his stats were the same in the 5 WBC games in which he played. It would be nice if he could get a legit shot.
  25. I am a pretty tired of this bit. Yes some folks have moved on from the twins and had some success. How does the rate of this happening with ex-twins compare to other teams? This approach seems easy. Move on please or break it down further and better.
