  1. Since when have you wanted to sign Ellsbury?
  2. I have a bet rolling with a buddy. It is for dinner. At 68 wins or less he wins, at 69 its a push and at 70 I win. For the sake of filling my belly with a Blucy and some tator tots from the Blue Door I really hope they go 4-0. 2 weeks ago I appeared to be in good shape for this bet. I think I will be going hungry.

Mark Grace would be the prototype for Mauer at 1st, and that type of career ain't going to get it done for the HOF. And Grace actually has a lower percentage of hits being singles than Mauer. 70.2% of Grace's hits are singles, versus 71.2% of Mauer's. I would still be happy to have that production at first vs not at all. I hear what others have said about his best value being tied to being a catcher. That may be his best value game to game. What about his best value over the life of his contract? The bat is worthless if not in the lineup. I feel it would be a good business decision for the organization to set up a situation that gives the best chance to maximize that value. At the very least they should shift his time at catcher very, very significantly to the lesser side.
  4. Come on. Below you go on to say he is a HOF career guy. I just don't understand your logic. It still amazes me how people cannot see how exceptional he is as a hitter....at any position.
  5. This could also be an opportunity to maximize value in Willingham. If the Twins go to a more traditional catching situation like they had with Mauer/Redmond they they no longer will have the 1B/DH/Catcher rotation. You get Willingham out of left field and put him at DH were he can hit.
  6. I have now moved to the camp of putting him at 1B. This article turned me. People say his value goes down at first and I get it but take a look. His career hitting numbers vs the 1B numbers from the whole league this year would have him 1st in Avg, 2nd in OB% and 6th in OPS. Not to mention that I feel he could step in and contend strongly for a gold glove right away. I'll take it. The bat is way too important and although less exceptional, his numbers would still make him one of the best hitting first basemen (and players) in the league. And, like others have pointed out, he could be the emergency catcher. Sorry, Joe. This move should happen.
  7. This is a great idea but too early. This will be an awesome topic in June 2014.
  8. This would be interesting. I like it. I am not a gardy hater but I support shaking things up. I wish there was some occasional new blood. Why not hire from outside? Even if it was not the head coach then how about some of the other coaches? Side question/request: somebody please explain why people even mention Molitor. He has barely coached. He is not currently coaching. IMO if he really wanted the job or any head coaching job he would follow the normal path to get one. Because he is hometown and was a great player are not a legit reasons to consider him.
  9. I don't completely disagree with unwritten rules and I feel that being up by 6 in the 8th is too close. There is a difference between showboating/being a jerk and playing hard. I see no issue with stepping on the opponents neck. Maybe that is what the team has been lacking. 10-1? Maybe. It is a judgement call but a lot of times I feel there is too much drama surrounding this. Is it the act that bothered your or the fact that you were getting your butt kicked? Maybe some folks should just worry about the latter.
  10. I don't feel they can make it a successful season at this point but to make the remaining games as successful as possible they should take every opportunity to give reps to those who may be part of the future. Doumit, Willingham, and Pelfrey are not those people.
  11. Does anybody have guesses on what kind of $ these guys will demand?
  12. It would be so sweet if both worked out and therefore one could be moved at the first trade deadline in 2014.
  13. Overall I think who plays first is far down the list right now. Pitching and SS are more important. I hope that Colabello gets a lot of reps before the end of this year so the FO has a better idea about him going into next year.
  14. I wish the pitching was going to move up as quickly as you project. Arcia to 1B may not be so simple. I believe he has played OF his whole career and the jump to 1B may not be as easy as you think. Let me hit on Rosario and I am not going to let this one go. Moving him back to the OF now is crazy. They have 2+ years invested in him at 2B and they need to let that work itself out. IF Dozier comes back next year and is still the Dozier we know now and IF Rosario is killing AAA then you have to make some room and that is an awesome problem. I see no reason why that won't happen and IMO at that point you use one to acquire pitching. Pretty soon the Twins are going to need to trade prospects for pitching if a real championship team is ever going to happen.
  15. Yes please. Rosario should stay on his current path. If the Twins end up with 2 guys who can play 2b and hit and hit and therefore room has to be made then so be it. That is how we can get more pitching. If that surplus happens it would be a great thing. Dozier has only been like this since May and Rosario is quite young. Give it time next year but stay on the current course.
  16. Josmil Pinto. Yoh ss meal peento is how it is pronounced and not Yahs Mill. I get so annoyed at announcers who dont take a second to properly pronounce a players name.
  17. I would say that Walker and May have a good shot. As far as the others I don't know. Its an interesting opinion to express because I know nothing. I look at stats pages and see a video or two. Therefore to judge ceiling on guys like Thorpe, Jorge and Kepler is not possible. Emotionally speaking, I was hoping that Kepler was going to kill it this year and have national baseball nerds like Olney and Law talking about him. That did not happen but I still read that the tools, ability and body type are there. To me he is very fun story.
  18. How would anybody feel about going after Mr. Baker in the off season?
  19. Why is Ramirez playing while Arcia sits?
  20. Shane and Seth- Is he a legit SS? Does he have a real arm for the position? Also, does he have the speed to steal more bases?
  21. Last year he had 8 HR in Ft Myers. Where did they go? I remember hearing a breakdown on Ben Revere's OBP and the same theme seems to be present here. With no power his walk rate may struggle because when necessary a pitcher knows they can put it down the middle. The worst he will do is hit a single. If they were slightly scared that he can hit one out or hit the gap for a 2B or 3B then it will drive up his walks on OBP. For those of you who have been to see him, does that sound right?
  22. I like his chances to be effective next year. Control is most often an issue for TJ pitchers. He could not get ahead in the count. That leads to walks and/or pitches down the middle because he had to throw a strike. Next year he will be stronger and better overall. My outlook for him was not so great for this year so its disappointing but I did not expect too much. I am glad they finally brought him up so was able to log time at the mlb level. I think he profiles as a #3 and that leads us back to same questions about how that Twins can any legit #1/#2 starters. Per Winston Smith...maybe a huge shake up is necessary.
  23. I like this series of articles so far. Thanks. A few weeks ago Mr. Stohs wrote an article about Dozier's numbers trending positively and there were many comments after that. It seems pretty logical that with Dozier playing well it would make sense to let Rosario prepare more slowly for AAAA. I hope the do not move him back to OF. Its nice to have this "issue." I look forward to a day when discussions like this happen about the pitching staff.
  24. These are interesting comments. I have just done a search and did not find the data on May's contract. Does anybody have the detail? I want to know how much time the Twins have left before he is out of options. Thank you.
