  1. They have me hooked on this now. The Midwest league list is due today and it is not in. Are these folks on Hawaii time? Whats up?
  2. Is homer the same as a "company guy?" Dick / Bert are company guys. It makes sense to me. They toe the line. The guys on the radio have license to be more honest because you don't tune into a radio game unless you are a real fan. I do get tired of hearing Dick use the term "Bouncer" to describe a ground ball, and at times it seems like if you took, "dropped the barrel of the bat" away from Bert that he would be lost. And then.....Eric Karros comes to town for a national game. He renews my appreciation for Dick/Bert.
  3. Survey done. I hope to be cool enough one day that John will make reference to me when discussing the demographics.
  4. Agreed and this is why I feel that to hold on to Morneau and risk waiting until the 2013 deadline may be a solid move.
  5. Why is morneau not on your list? I have 14 million reasons why he should be.
  6. I don't know about this year because we don't know what was on the table but in general I agree. Also, how can we expect young players to shine one day if they are not promoted and given the chance? That cannot be done if their spaces are full. The ages and contracts of Morneau, Span and Willingham will not allow them to be on the next relevant team. GGrulz is typing that same message at this moment.
  7. I completely agree. Within reason, the teams needs to make whatever move in order to make this team better. I like Span, he has been a good player. But, I think there are some things that have been forgotten. We hear so many say he is a good guy and in general I would agree except for two things. Rumors were that he was not willing to play the corner outfield spot and that he kept quiet about an injury in July/Aug of this year. I am lacking details on both of these topics but didn't we hear that buzz? Towards the start of this year when many were saying Revere should take over center he was not willing to play LF or RF. Also, part of his extended absence was supposedly due not having a true idea of his injury. Many would want to put that on our medial staff but seems to me I heard Span did not help the situation by not being forthcoming. Setting that aside, if the team acquired a few pitchers or a middle infielder by making moves which involved other players and we were left with Span on the team I don't think that would be a bad thing. He is a nice player. However, we absolutely do NOT need to keep him. Soon he will be quite redundant if young outfielders continue to progress.
  8. I am doing my best to keep my hopes reasonable for the acquisition of SP. Sign one guy. Just one. Anything else would be bonus. I realize that the Twins need plenty more that one SP. Many folks were disappointed in the Liriano trade and I think that if Span is traded that many will be dissapointed with the return that comes. Much of that dissapointment comes from over valuing the worth of the piece we are trading away. Sign one guy who can win 12-14 games. I feel that is doable and that would help this team a great deal and make the season much more fun to watch. Then with more acquisition and the maturation of some younger players, I hope to begin to make a run again in 2014.
  9. I hope that "contract extention" means trading him before the deadline for prospects and putting Parmalee into the 1B/DH position full time. I hope Morneau has a monster first half so his value is as high as it can possibly be and he is fun to watch hit.
  10. Agreed with roger on baker. Earlier this season baker was on many lists like this. Seth said that he thought he could be ready to contribute during the season and maybe not right away. If he came at the right price I would not be against having him on the squad. The way many recover from tj surgery today, I feel he has some productive years left.
  11. Pretty sure Arizona would put him in the majors! You're kind of a two trick pony eh? No one moves fast enough and the Twins can't develop talent. It is either that or GGRulz is calling me a moron but wants to do it on the DL so Brock does not reprimand him.
  12. Shame on me for not traveling to Beloit this year. Next year it appears that names like, Buxton, Kepler, Polanco, Walker, Jimenez and maybe Berrios will be there. Roadtrip. TD Mac- Thanks for this topic. It is fun to watch the big prospect and also to look those who might surprise you.
  13. Rosario....agreed. Last year he hit 20+ homers, this year he was on pace for nearly the same. His stats otherwise look great and he is 170lbs and very young. What will 2 years and 20 lbs of growth/muscle do to him? I hope he can stay at second base because the Twins may have something very special.
  14. Arcia has all of 299 PAs in New Britain. The Twins didn't do anything wrong by keeping him in AA until the end of the season. He'll probably start the 2013 season in AAA. As for this list, I don't like it much. On the upside, the Twins look like they might have a top 10 farm system if Gibson continues to pitch well in the AFL. There's an outside chance we'll see six Twins players on top 100 lists next spring. I completely agree. Leaving Arcia (and Hicks) off the call-up list was correct. They are young guys. We need to be patient and let the process work. They will be in Target field soon enough. Regarding Rosario vs Arcia, I feel Rosario is a better prospect. At 2nd base with the numbers he can put up I feel it makes him more exceptional than Arcia. Apply Rosarios numbers to a full season of at bats and you are looking at 100 RBIs and 18 HR from a skinny, 170lb guy. I can't wait to see how he fares in Ft. Myers next year.
  15. And yet you look at this website.
  16. I am not certain about where Hrbek was born but he did graduate from Kennedy in '78. When I went there you always heard stories about the time he hit the school. I don't know if the story was true. They have since named some ball fields after him and he still lives on the bluffs by Dwan GC. This map is so much fun. Thank you for doing it. Did anybody see Carlos Silva's bubble in Bolivar, Venezuela? I was near there years ago and talk about the middle of nowhere. That is amazing.
  17. Will somebody please fill me in because I am sure that I missed something. In general, why would there be apprehension to put somebody on the DL? I don't understand. Is there a negative effect that can happen if you do that too quickly and their "injury" turns out to not merit a DL stint? Is it simply that if you do that then a minor league player must come up to fill the spot and therefore mess up the team's lineup that they leave behind? Thanks.
  18. Word. In another list they said that next year Parmalee will start for the Twins in left and Pavano will be the opening day SP.
  19. I have recently said in another thread that I am very concerned that they will do nothing in the off season and I still feel that way. And, I must agree with the above. Didn't it come out right before Blackburn was pulled of the 40-man that he was, "one of our guys next year" ? That may have been said by Gardy but I think it comes from Ryan with a purpose. I am staying calm on this for the moment.
  20. Agreed. The guy might have success at TF based on his success at Safeco but it's far from a given. He's having a good year with pretty mediocre (or bad) peripherals. Vargas is the type of guy you pick up on the cheap after he posts a 4.50 ERA and then you cross your fingers, hoping for a rebound. He's not the guy you pick up after a 3.50 ERA because he's going to be overpaid and he's almost certainly going to regress. I can see what you are saying. What are we looking at having to give up/pay for him? Let me do some homework before getting to far ahead of myself. My issue is that I have serious concerns about the twins getting any pitching this off season. Generally I am optimistic and here I remain very worried. Vargas is no savior and has questionable #s but the innings are good and the whip seems to be in the ballpark. If they get him for a reasonable deal then that is one decent piece and they can go out and continue looking for better in the off season. If they don't do something like this then what will they do?
  21. Which free agent pitchers would you put at the level of Vargas? I don't see a lot of solid starters on the market, a lot of so so guys but not a lot of quality. How much do you expect the quality guys to cost and will they have to over pay for those guys to get them to sign with a last place team? Just because we want a free agent doesn't mean they will want us. After all a bird in the hand......... It is hard not to agree with Mr. Smith. We have first crack. Take it. Please go after him. I think he has great stats for a pitcher on team that does not score runs.
  22. I watch him every morning when I log on along with Arcia, Hicks, Sano, Rosario and Benson. I have been hoping to see his stats start to rise throughout the season. No joy in Mudville. I hope he will find it. Although I like what Florimon has shown, it is a small sample and we are still very much up in the air in the middle infield.
  23. It is hard to argue with that. That was bad fundamental baseball.
  24. The place where Google failed you was its assumption that Monterrey was CA. That is Monterrey, Mexico in Nuevo Leon. It is a couple hours south of the Texas border and towards the Carribean side.
