  1. So, let's say hypothetically the Twins keep Dozier and do not trade him this offseason, and he enters camp as a member of the Twins. Adding Castro will help the pitching staff. Keeping Dozier at 2nd and Polanco at SS (along with Escobar) will continue to give good defense at 2nd and below average defense at SS. Sano at 3rd, at best, will be average, (and that feels optimistic) but the OF defense should be ok. Is this enough to think that the Twins pitching staff, who as of now is the same they had last year, will rebound to be even close to 13th in the American League in runs allowed? What other changes/additions can the Twins make to better themselves if they do not trade Dozier?
  2. I saw that too. Dozier is really a good player, but this would be a waste of an asset at the height of its value
  3. That is also hoping that the dodgers don't acquire a different 2nd baseman before that point
  4. http://dodgersdigest.com/2016/12/29/dodgers-can-withstand-dipping-into-sp-depth-in-brian-dozier-deal/ Another article, from a Dodger perspective, on why De Leon and Stewart could seem tough to swallow on their end, but would be worth it to get Dozier.
  5. The only thing people don't like about Stewart is his scouting reports on fangraphs and mlbpipeline say he is a future #4 starter. His minor league numbers, especially his K/BB rate, certainly look very promising. He absolutely has an average to above average fastball and changeup, and has the makings of a 3rd pitch. Plus, he threw 150 innings combined last year between the minors and majors, all while striking out more than a batter per inning. Outside of that, it's not like I know Stewart personally. But I'd be excited to give him a chance. How many guys in the Twins system had as good a year in the minors as Stewart did last year? Not many.
  6. That said, and I'm not saying you are wrong, Stewart and De Leon both have 6 years of control left and would absolutely help the rotation in 2017. It'd be a good move to help the 2017 and the future.
  7. Every team does this, it's nothing new. And we still don't know what has actually been talked about or discussed. It will be fun to see something come to fruition, hopefully.
  8. DaveW, every now and then on twitter specifically there are days when chatter picks up (usually around the same time that a national writer/pundit writes something about a Dozier trade) but now it has gone weeks. My question is, does your source think there is a time where the Dodgers will pull the offer, and/or do you think something happens at some point?
  9. What I don't seem to understand; why would the Twins need a 3rd piece if those two are on the table? For me, if those two are being offered, I take it and run.
  10. But, you have to be honest with where you are at, and who your best players are both today and in the next 2-3-5 years. Dozier is their best player. That is not up for debate. He was in 2016, and more than likely would again be in 2017. He also is turning 30 in May 2017, and is only signed through the 2018 season. With him specifically, would you... 1) Keep him through his contract, and let him leave as a free agent 2) Sign him to an extension, covering his age 32-36 year old seasons 3) Trade him now for value, since you believe option 2 isn't wise. Same with Ervin. I would absolutely listen because he also isn't going to be around after 2018. He just turned 34 a couple of weeks back, and the Twins have him for his age 34 and 35 season, his contract ending after 2018. Would you... 1) Keep him through his contract, hoping he still provides similar value for the next two seasons when he is 34 and 35 2) Sign him to an extension, paying him for when he is 36 and older 3) Trade him now for value, since you believe option 2 isn't wise. I do think the Twins can and should build around their youth. Buxton, Sano and Kepler are all really good young players to build around, and Jorge Polanco is right in the mix. They are also cheap, and should be good for the next 4+ years. If you can supplement and add to their core (these guys) by trading off your aging veterans, that is a very good move both for now and for the next 4+ years.
  11. I think a deal could be made that would get the Twins interested in working with the Cardinals. De Leon is a GREAT prospect, but he isn't a given. Will be nice to have more teams talking.
  12. You think trading 1 player for 2-3 younger players is a tear down? I think trading/cutting more than 5 players is a tear down. Using 1 asset to improve the whole of a team is smart management, not a tear down.
  13. Like Aaron Gleeman always says, it's VERY hard to screw up a 1 year deal. Whatever the money, if you can make it work, it almost never is a bad idea. If Ross can come back and be close to the top of the rotation guy he has shown to be, then flip him at the deadline. If he isn't going to be healthy, then it is only one year.
  14. Fair. I wasn't saying your opinion was wrong (how can an opinion be wrong?) I just didn't know where it was coming from is all. He seems like a genuinely nice person, and works hard at his craft. I just have a hard time faulting someone for that is all.
  15. Agreed. The prospects listed here would all be playing at some point in 2017 or 2018 more than l likely. These offers, if they are on the table, would help the Twins very soon and for the forseeable future. Trading Dozier isn't a tear down. It is using an asset at its highest value to gain more assets that have longer term value than Dozier will have WITH the Twins.
  16. They may have been in on them or scouting them. The latest one, Norge Ruiz, was just signed by the A's. I don't know why the Twins did or didn't sign a guy that Wolfson reported they sent a scout out to watch. But man, I have a hard time holding that against the messenger. If there is something else, then fine. But just because the twins scout a guy and choose not to sign him, and that is reported on, that doesn't mean he is a bad reporter.
  17. I'm missing the whole part on not taking Darren Wolfson seriously. What is at that I am not seeing?
  18. I keep seeing people say that we have plenty of 3 and 4 type starters. I feel like this isn't really accurate. We have 3 and 4 starters for what the Twins have been over the past 6-10 years, but I don't feel like we have many "league average" 3 or 4 starters. We all HOPE that some of our pitching prospects at AA and lower currently will become at least #3 or #4 starters, but man, in our current rotation, who would you quantify as #3 or #4 starters? Ervin Santana. To me, that's the entire list. I don't feel like the Twins have any other CURRENT DAY #3 starters. We all hope Berrios will become that, and I think he can based on his minor league numbers. But man, to poo poo the idea of a #3 starter coming back, when that is a MASSIVE upgrade to what the Twins currently have in the starting rotation, that to me isn't really a negative. I'm not saying we shoot for mediocrity; the Twins should always shoot for top of the rotation level type talent. But to say someone like Luke Weaver or Brock Stewart are guys who wouldn't upgrade our rotation, to me, that is crazy.
  19. Man, if St. Louis offered Reyes alone, I'd take that over De Leon/Alvarez. I don't see Reyes on the table. I also don't think the Cardinals would be in a position to add real talent WITH Reyes.
  20. Maybe, maybe not. He will be 26 next July, has not lost fastball velocity over a 4 year average of data, and has a larger gap between fastball and changeup than ever before. He is controlled for 3 more years, and has 3 season of at least 2 war so far. What have his injury concerns been? Can what he has shown as struggles be fixable?
  21. As the two main pieces, who would you value higher? 1) De Leon and Stewart 2) Wacha and Weaver I'm not certain either are offered. But, if it were 2 for 1, I'd lean the cardinals offer here. A Dozier trade, for me, would depend on a 3rd piece
  22. Weaver, Alcantara and Delvin Perez is a great offer. Is that crazy from the cardinals side?
  23. I think most twins fans agree with this too, and are hoping to get a trade done this offseason as his value will NEVER be higher.Listen, I love Dozier as a player. He isn't a 5.9 per year war player, but he is probably a 3 war player. And since the twins will have the best chance for other teams to pay them this offseason as if he is at least a 4 war player, now is the time. Make it happen!
  24. I hope you are wrong. He isn't going to be more valuable at the deadline than he is now.
