  1. Why the CATS pic btw? Just to remind us that they made a movie from the play no one was asking for? To exaggerate the absurdity of the whole situation? Just to make everyone super uncomfortable?!
  2. Ah, the "everyone's doing it" defense. Totally worked for me in middle school......
  3. This reminds me of Simon Sinek's Finite vs Infinite mindset. If you haven't heard it I suggest you look up his YouTube videos, it's quite amazing
  4. Well since this board didn't exist until late 2011 it'd be a bit difficult to go back and look at that. I was part of the ESPN board at the time and I remember it being mixed. From what I remember most people considered it necessary to do but there were concerns that his value would plummet as soon as he was no longer catching, mostly from a power perspective. I was always a fan of the extension partly because I always loved Joe, even when he was underperforming I was glad he was representing our team because he is a local and a great guy
  5. Let's put it this way, Revere has a career 6.7 bWAR or roughly the same as Mookie Betts' 2019 season or about half of Jacque Jones' for his career. The fact that we now have May for Revere makes that trade worth it
  6. Ah, Didn't look that one up, we were still tanking though and wanted to maximize the return on Revere who was an average CF, it wasn't like we were trading a superstar or anything
  7. Damn this lineup is gonna be TOUGH! Buxton as a sure fire #9 hitter is crazy enough but our #7-8 hitters are gonna most likely be some combo of Garver, Rosario, Polanco, or Arraez which is insane. Without looking at it I estimate that Garver and Rosario would be #3-4 hitters for like over half the league and Buxton, Polanco, and Arraez would be #1-2 hitters for a lot of teams as well. I'm still laughing at ESPN's notion that we have the 10th best line up in the league, LOL
  8. Context matters though. The Span and Revere trades were ones that had to happen, we were going no where, they were soon to be FAs, and we were rebuilding. Unfortunately we only really came away with May from those. Same with the Santana trade although a lot of people were pissed about the return for that one, should've gone with Boston's offer, it was the better package at the time but we went with the "upside" haul so Santana wasn't in the AL and it backfired bigtime. The Capps trade was the one that was terrible at the time and everyone (except the Twins apparently) knew it, it was short sighted and reactionary. We needed a closer and Capps wasn't even a particularly good one, we traded our only heir to Joe Mauer's throne knowing he would get moved off catcher fairly soon (even if concussions pushed him off earlier than expected). I don't remember a whole lot of people defending that trade at the time, Capps only really had save numbers but pretty much everything else suggested he would be terrible. The Capps trade did traumatize fans but when you look at that vs other trades in context it sticks out as just a horrible move altogether when other trades are more of calculated risks, I think the Graterol trade fits in this category
  9. I remember being ridiculed a few years ago for suggesting that Graterol was destined for the pen. I still think there's no way he actually becomes a starter, too much effort and too many injuries. I like Graterol as a reliever, could become a Kelvin Herrera type of guy, but I'm also glad we flipped him now for an actual starter because the flame out potential is high
  10. Why the big discrepancy with BP's ranking of him? It always seems odd when one publication has him 50 spots lower than everyone else
  11. I've not been as high on Graterol as many have and it seems the Twins have a similar opinion. Almost all of the things fans were excited about in him were the same things everyone said about Fernando Romero and his value tanked big time. As a reliever it's the exact stuff that we all loved about Burdi, Chargois, and Bard and we literally got nothing for any of those players. In my mind his ceiling was maybe Kelvin Herrera which is some value for sure but nothing near the expectation that some people had, Might as well leverage him for a know commodity now, I'm ok with that.
  12. All aboard the positivity train!!!! CHOO CHOO!!!!
  13. I've been digesting this one a bit and the more I think about it the more I'm pleased. It's not a sexy or exciting trade for us but it's a solid one. This now makes our playoff rotation Berrios, Odorizzi, Maeda, and Pineda with Bailey, Hill, Dobnak, Smeltzer, and Thorpe all as #5s or fall back plans in case of injury. That's a really deep rotation to go along with a deep bullpen. With a top 3 line up in all of baseball to go along with really deep pitching we are going to make some noise. Is it this a dominant, scary rotation? nope, but it's one that's solid with promise. I've also openly questioned Graterol's long term viability as a starter as well as his injury risk on this board, the Twins just confirmed my concern with this trade
  14. You guys are missing the fact that we should get a boost in pitching simply by the Astros and Yankees not stealing signals! Therefore Berrios and Odorizzi should be a very good 1-2 punch in the playoffs. Let's hope that Graterol can pull out his best 2006 Liriano impression (minus the blown elbow of course) and then we'll have a solid starting 4 in the playoffs
  15. How quickly we forget about Polanco, he was absolutely not supposed to be a SS and he's been excellent there
  16. Yes, most of us were hoping he would drop however that draft had somewhat of a "consensus" top 3 with a pretty stark drop off starting with our pick at #4. Stewart was looked at as a decent risk at #4 because there were a ton of question marks and raw tools from pretty much everyone after that. I remember a decent debate between the couple of outfielders in Frazier and Meadows however we had just selected Buxton the year prior and it wasn't looked at as an organizational need. Obviously Meadows looks like the better pick there but hindsight is 20/20 and he didn't exactly look surefire until recently. I loved Grey in that draft and I'd love him now!
  17. Serves me right for only watching the first couple of innings and then going to bed all optimistic up 2-0
  18. I'm sad that Boof Bonser or Brett Boone weren't mentioned.
  19. Someone give that squirrel a tiny twins hat! Not only would it be appropriate, it would also be adorable
  20. I'm not an expert on unwritten rules as I only played one season of little league but that has to be among the stupidest of them all. A batter's job is to hit the ball and a pitcher is supposed to get them out. The Rangers should be fined for that BS
  21. I have to disagree with this, sure he's a "grown ass man" but he's not a robot. As fans we frequently forget these guys are human, as if their high salary is supposed to make the super human. He had zero time to get adjusted at all or prepare, coming from 3 time zones away, and was supposed to perform in a very high leverage situation. Imagine if you got hired at a new job all the way across the country and you were supposed to perform the second you got off the plane with no preparation or rest, most people would struggle
  22. really hard to blame Dyson for this one, dude wasn't even at the ballpark when the game started. He never should've been put in that position, that's on Rocco.
  23. Pulling Berrios early shows a completely different mentality than years past and most of baseball is now embracing it. It's putting less emphasis on individual statistics and achievements and more thought into rest and post season longevity. Welcome to the new generation of players and coaches, It's quite refreshing really
  24. For the 30 year period from 1988-2018 we have only had 8 seasons (from 5 players, only Morneau and Dozier did it more than once) with 30+ HRs, that included a 19 year drought from 88-06. This year we are on pace to have 4 with 4 more guys who are projected to be close. Crazy how quickly things can change!
