  1. Any rumors about who the Twins will be adding? I'd really like to see Fedko and I expect the pitching spot will be taken by a pitcher returned to health (López).
  2. I'll comment here on the thread most critical of Wallner. OPS and OPS+ presents the most positive light on Wallner's offense (and value). WPA shows quite a different picture. I do think reality is better represented by WPA. Wallner isn't real slow and has actually swiped a couple bases in the last week, but he's been really uneven in his almost three years on the scene for the Twins. It's pretty hard to keep him in the middle of a lineup. To my eye, Wallner has looked rougher in the outfield this year than he did last year, but according to the two most quoted defensive metrics, he is not that bad on defense and it is undeniable that he has a strong arm. Also he isn't really slow. His sprint speed is in the 36th percentile. Carrying one guy like that is fine with a lineup of more balanced players, but carrying three or four guys who depend on slug for their value makes the offense very inconsistent. I keep seeing people suggest converting Wallner or Larnach to first basemen. I believe the die is cast and neither will be considered to change positions.
  3. Since the selloff, I can just celebrate the rare victories without saying "but whatabout this (or that)". The Twins won a game and saddled the lefty starter with a loss. That hasn't happened much. The last month will serve as audition time for a lot of players. Martin, Larnach and Clemens had good games which will help their stock in the offseason. I do think September is an opportunity for Lewis to put a better spin on what has been a really disappointing season, especially if he finishes healthy. When Funderburk, Sands, Topa and Tonkin are your top bullpen arms, it shouldn't come as a surprise if the Twins lose some leads late in games. Each of those guys has stepped up at some point since the bullpen was decimated.
  4. Carlos Santana released by the Guardians. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2025/08/guardians-release-carlos-santana.html
  5. Mickey seems like a nice guy who works really hard with his God-given tools. I think he’s going to end up a baseball lifer and might be a really good manager some day. As a player, he’ll always have August 26th 2025 to remember.
  6. I guess I’d be upset if they were really trying to win. Fitzgerald is what (?) 32 years old. He is magically going to become a competent major leaguer? Keaschall (23), Lee (24) and Lewis (26) are the present and near future for the Twins. Seeing if Clemens and/or Julien can perform well enough to help next year should also be a priority. That doesn’t leave much time for Fitzgerald.
  7. Just checked some other stats and the National League currently has one qualified hitter with a batting average above .300. Freddie Freeman is hitting .302. Lower the mound again?
  8. I just checked--Durán has allowed 3 runs and 10 hits in 7.2 innings, Varland has allowed seven runs and 12 hits in 10 innings (scored on in each of his last five appearances), Jax has allowed seven runs and 10 hits in 8.1 innings, Stewart is on IL and even Coulombe has allowed seven runs and nine hits in 8.1 innings. Duran has seven saves and two losses and one of the runs he allowed was a Manfred man.
  9. Lefties are going to get their chances to hit against LH pitchers with the current roster. Bench tonight will be Gasper (S), Fitzgerald (L), Outman (L) and Larnach (L).
  10. I'm not anywhere near certain that Jenkins is ready, but if he is five weeks of AAA ball is plenty. He was regarded in the same prospect stratosphere as Chourio of the Brewers and he made the majors at 20. He was a good player as a rookie, so it isn't crazy to have Jenkins on the Opening Day roster. Emmanuel Rodriguez just hasn't been healthy enough to develop. His numbers are always enhanced by a high walk rate, but he strikes out a ton and never produces a high batting average FWIW. I'd like to see Fedko in September with the idea that one of Fedko, Gonzalez or Rosario is the RH outfield option for the Twins in 2026. I've seen enough of Austin Martin.
  11. Luke Keaschall, Walker Jenkins and maybe K Culpepper as the new, young core.
  12. Pretty much how I see it. It seems the Pohlads want to wait until there is labor peace to sell, figuring they will get a much bigger selling price then. In the meantime, damn the fans, they are going to cut payroll and sell hope.
  13. I'd stop with the first five who were high draft choices or who had impressive rookie seasons (Julien). Keirsey Jr., Gasper and McCusker were older when promoted and never regarded as future stars or even certain to be major leaguers. First round choices Larnach, Martin (by the Blue Jays) and Lewis haven't lived up to their billing overall. Lewis and Miranda haven't been good since the All-Star break in 2024 and Julien hasn't been good since April of that year. You can probably add first round choices Lee and Wallner to a list as not meeting overall expectations as well. That's a big share of the position player roster.
  14. Good lord. Yeah, Minnesota might not be the premium place to play, but saying that no free agents will sign with them is a stretch. Falvey hasn't been successful for the last few years, but it's mostly because players within the organization haven't developed. Yes, losing makes people dwell on the negative and there's probably a lot of side eye going on in the Twins' clubhouse, but $$ speak loudly and some free agents will be looking for work and take an offer from the Twins, particularly bullpen guys, since they will have a lot of opportunity.
  15. The important thing is pitching, particularly starting pitching. The death knell for both ‘24 and ‘25 was injury to one of the top guys in the rotation (Ryan in ‘24, Pablo in ‘25). Health is crucial. Secondly a bullpen has to be built almost from scratch. I have more faith in a potential strong rotation than I do for the BP. Health and production from Buxton, Lewis, Wallner and Lee and having Keaschall for a full year would help remake the offense. If you squint hard you can see a path, but a lot of things would have to fall in place, particularly health.
  16. Taj Bradley recalled. Erasmo Ramírez DFA, leaving two spots on the 40-man roster.
  17. Fun fact: Cecil and Prince Fielder (father and son) both hit 319 major league homers.
  18. Kody, start running when they clear the fence by two feet.
  19. Nice DP. I’m still concerned about Keaschall’s arm, but it looked good on that turn.
  20. Outman already has two blooper reel defensive plays in six games. Not encouraging.
  21. Span on Brooks Lee—“tremendous range”—uh huh.
