    Yeah, this kind of roster manipulation always is intriguing to me. I think it is legitimate to expect three, four and even five non-roster guys added to the Opening Day roster, which would mean subtractions from the current 40-man. Opt-outs and options matter and traditionally the Twins have used options rather than lose out-of-options guys. But, there are three guys who have opt-outs who most likely would be lost if they don't make the Opening Day roster, and then add in guys like Altavilla. Yes, there are guys who could/will be cut loose. Outman is out of options as is Jackson. Adams, Kent and maybe Topa could be subtracted. Other possibilities are DFAing guys with options like Kreidler and Gray or trading someone on the 40-man for a prospect or two. From the outside, it looks like a jumbled mess and maybe it is. Maybe the 60-day IL will be used for Festa since he's way behind and might not be able to pitch until May.

    Interesting. I can't get the Breakout game on my TV with Twins.tv, but I can get it on my phone. So I am doing a phone mirroring thing to project it on my TV.

    It looks like Dylan Moore is available. He's had some pretty good years with the Mariners and remains versatile. He has neither hit nor played much shortstop in the last couple years. Edit: Moore is activating his opt-out probably to force the Phils to commit to him or permit him to be a free agent. He may well not be on the market.

    Last year the Twins filled out their bullpen on a shoestring and it showed. This year they're trying to build a bullpen on a shoestring and it is very likely it will show again. The guys at the front of the line are gambles and projections and there really isn't much behind them unless starters are converted to the bullpen.

    I don't think Altavilla has an opt-out. I am certain that he isn't guaranteed an opt-out due to his veteran status. He has 5.087 years of service according to Fangraphs, so he's doesn't have the same opt-out guarantees as Hendriks, Chafin and Arcia. He probably has a higher floor and ceiling than any of the other right handers as long as he is healthy, so I don't think the Twins should risk losing him.

    Jackson would open a spot, but as many as four or five non-roster guys will need to be added to the team. The Twins will be very busy before Opening Day.

    Gee, a complete and total surprise. I suppose there might be someone with an interest which might net something. Barring injury or trade Jackson is on his way to a DFA.

    I was hoping that Fedko would force himself into the outfield conversation. I would say that he was pretty unimpressive in limited opportunities. I’ve thought that Rosario should be traded for a couple years as a bat-first RH corner outfielder, but he’s progressed and shows potential as he’s advanced. On top of that. last year he stole a bunch of bases, so he’s probably not slow and might develop into a decent outfielder. Schobel will probably get a shot this year and it looks like he has some skills.

    For the bullpen to be even okay, the Twins will have to have gambled and won a lot. I really don't know who the surest thing is among all of the choices. I expect some will work out, at least temporarily, but it's hard to see five or six guys step forward and be competent.

    If Austin Martin starts the season on the IL, I think Kreidler gets a spot on the Opening Day roster. He is best glove the Twins have at (probably) five positions and he can pinch run. The comparison is more apt with what the Twins tolerated last year with DaShawn Keirsey Jr. and Kreidler also is a good defensive infielder.

    Agree that the organizational depth at third is pretty bad, and so it makes sense to keep Gio in the organization in the event of a Lewis injury (40%) or dreadful hitting (15%). Despite the rough spring, I think Lewis will be a good player this year, as long as he's healthy. Neither Lewis nor Urshela should be playing shortstop unless it's the last inning of a blowout or because of crazy substitutions in an extra inning game. I think the Twins keep one of Kreidler or Gray (I suspect it is Kreidler) until they make 40-man room for Culpepper, which would be when he is promoted to the majors. I am not so down on Lee. If he hits, it can make up for his shortcomings in range and arm. Of course, in over 700 PAs, he been much worse than an average hitter (75 OPS+), so he has a lot to prove.

    The real question being bandied about is whether the team should go with four lefties in the pen for any considerable span of time. I say "yes", but hesitantly. All four guys in consideration are more effective against left handed hitter and with four lefties in the bullpen, they will probably face more righties, Over the course of the season, there will be injuries and there might be ineffectiveness, so it is unlikely they will carry four lefties for most of the season. Ideally, the lefties can still be used on mostly left handed hitters or close to 50%. The most effective way to do that is to have the starters go deep in games and allow the Twins to better pick their spots to use the lefties.

    Can Bailey Ober survive as a jumbo right handed Jamie Moyer? I think there is some chance. He didn't throw hard today, but he mostly hit his spots and moved the ball around the zone. The margin is very small, but Ober has always been more pitcher than thrower.

    I think the Twins would really like to go with the best defensive player, but Kreidler has shown nothing to indicate that he'll ever hit more than a pitcher. He's also a good outfielder, so Martin's injury might also give him a way to make the Opening Day roster. Arcia can hit a little bit and he's a pretty solid glove in the middle infield. Gray hasn't hit well either, so I believe it is Arcia by default. The lack of infield depth in the high minors (outside of Culpepper) means to me that no more than one of Gray and Kreidler will be DFA'd since they both have an option remaining.

    Jeffers blooped a pair of singles yesterday, but didn't hit the ball hard. Keaschall and Wallner had very good at-bats.

    I would expect one or both of those guys to spend time in the Twins' bullpen in the 2026 season. Merryweather caused a stir early in camp, but was injured.

    Luke looked hesitant in left field today. I wonder if the coaching staff prefers him in left with Clemens at second or if it is just spring experimentation. Kreidler appears to be good field-no hit in the infield and outfield. Finally, Arcia will have an opt-out opportunity if he doesn’t make the team.

    Spring numbers don’t mean much. From Day 1, Shelton has singled out Bradley (in a good way). He’s got a live arm and some good pitches and he’s still pretty young despite over two years of service time.

    A couple of the most obscure ex-Twins pitched for Pittsburgh. Beau Burrows compiled a 12.54 ERA in five forgettable appearances for the ‘21 Twins.

    Yes, he thought Martin got up slow and that he might have jammed his wrist. Martin batted in the bottom of the inning, had a bloop single and scored, but didn’t go back out for the next inning. Neither Molitor or Provus noted Martin went out of the game until Outman batted in the bottom half of the inning.

    Broadcasters missed Martin being taken out. I bet he did something to his wrist on the diving attempt.
