  1. Gleeman & The Geek had similar thoughts. The offense is bad (at least until recently), but finding players who are a clear upgrade isn't easy and casting aside someone like Gallo or Kepler doesn't really change the overall problem. I do think adding a RH hitting OF who would reduce playing time for Taylor/Gallo/Kepler makes sense. When Aaron Hicks was released, I wondered if the Twins would consider him. I think in retrospect he would have been a good fit, but again that would necessitate an "okay" player being released or demoted.
  2. I think '24 will be the make or break year for both Wallner and Larnach. Fair or not, I think the FO and Rocco are convinced the overall contribution of Gallo/Kepler is more than they would/will get this year from Wallner and Larnach. I don't necessarily agree. Having an option to play center field and a corner vs. left handed pitching is what the Twins will be looking for at the deadline. Grichuk fits and so does Lane Thomas. Dylan Carlson of the Cardinals has lost playing time recently. He's arb-eligible for three years, so he would be expensive to acquire--maybe Larnach/Wallner plus a pretty good pitching prospect--but he's a legit CF, switch hitter (better against lefties) with a first round pedigree. I don't know if he's even available, but I think he would be an excellent get for not only the rest of this year, but for a couple years to come.
  3. First and foremost, we fans can call for him to play center field as much as we want, but if he's not healthy enough, it isn't going to happen. A nearly two week stint on the IL for an unrelated injury (HBP to the ribs) didn't change the situation and I suspect putting him on the IL now also would not change the current situation that he is a DH only. It is probably up to Buxton to try to make adjustments (given his current physical situation) to avoid these long dry spells and be a more productive and consistent hitter. It would appear that he needs a total reset to be a solid contributor.
  4. That's my fear. If the knee "cleanup" didn't work, I would expect there is some chronic damage. The fans haven't been informed of the exact nature of the injury (it is not required that we do) and we are all speculating.
  5. I think Julien is a near-ideal leadoff guy. He always has had a high OBP and he has above average speed--he stole 34 bases in '21 and 19 in '23. The move was designed to get Correa going and seems to have worked. Official scorers aren't the most consistent, but if Correa had correctly been ruled safe, I think 100% of official scorers would have ruled the play a hit. Yes, the throw clearly was there ahead of the runner, but it was beyond an ordinary effort to get to the ball and make the throw and that is the justification for many plays ruled as hits.
  6. Mark Canha and Tommy Pham and the Cardinals have Dylan Carlson perhaps available.
  7. Nice win. Julien can hit....also nice to see Kirlloff have a third straight multi-hit game. The nine best offensive players for the Twins: (minimum 100 PAs) Julien (.927), Kirilloff (.828), Lewis (.827), Solano (.786), Jeffers (.785), Gallo (.780), Polanco (.725), Correa (.725), Kepler (.715).
  8. Each one of the starting infielders had a homer. Does anyone remember the last time that happened? My guess would be 2019.
  9. On the Kepler play, he took an odd step rounding the bag. I don't know exactly what happened.
  10. I'm enjoying Plouffe and Morneau in the booth, especially Plouffie.
  11. Please, no one can see Julien is "okay" in the field. There is no such thing as a routine play for him.
  12. Playing at Seattle, a split would certainly be acceptable. It looks like today's game is going in the dumper and that's disappointing because they had a 2-0 lead and had done a good job against a good pitcher I hope Rocco gives Buxton one of the next days off, maybe two.
  13. Yeah, he'd certainly would have had a chance with both Lewis and Miranda injured. He's been hitting really well and playing first, third and left field.
  14. I've never thought Gray would finish this season with the gaudy numbers he put up primarily in April. He's limited damage so well, I just don't think he (or anyone else) can sustain it. It seems like he's struggled by losing command of breaking stuff.
  15. On Buxton, I guess the question is his health. Is he more injured than he was at the beginning of the season? The team knows--the trainer, the manager, etc.--and if he is as healthy or more so, there is no reason to expect that he won''t hit as he has the past few years if he's acceptably healthy. None of us fans know that answer. We've seen Buxton slump and then get really hot and while it is frustrating to watch him slump, eventually things will even out. I will add that the slump may be deepened by being a DH. He's probably thinking too much.
  16. Just a terrible inning for Gray. This game isn't over, but we'll see Seattle's "A" bullpen.
  17. Honestly, I can't see it. It will probably be about August 1st, and a lot can change in two weeks, but if Julien continues to hit like he has they can't send him down.
  18. Julien has been their best hitter since “The Meeting”. His defense remains very questionable and has cost several runs.
  19. I haven’t seen Buxton bunt successfully in his career.
  20. Yes. He seems to have developed a two-strike approach and chases less, getting more walks. He still strikes out plenty, but I would guess his BA and OBP with two strikes are among the best on the team.
  21. Last year, the outfielders got injured. This year (currently), it is infielders. Lewis, Polanco and Miranda are out (Gordon too, if you count him as an infielder). There’s no one left that can help in the infield.
  22. I checked the ESPN Gamecast and it is like looking into a mirror. The Twins are hitting .233 as a team, the M's are at .231, Twins have scored 400 runs, Seattle 410, Both teams have a .311 OBP, .372 ERAs and 1.17 WHIPs. Seattle is 46-46 and the Twins are 48-46, Sounds like a split of a four-game series to me.
  23. I really don't disagree with you regarding the existing corner outfielders, but the FO and probably Rocco don't think Wallner is better than either one. Wallner may or may not be a better hitter than Kepler or Gallo and he's certainly not as good a fielder. Frankly, I see Wallner as a LH Rooker.
