    Reading the baseball threads gives me the tremors. But I do remember back in my youth when I was studying geophysics at the U of M spending some time watching the seismometers and seismographs deep in Pillsbury Hall, and using time differences between S-waves and P-waves to compute distance from the epicenter of a quake in South America. This used formula developed by Dr. Richter and his associate Dr. Gutenberg at CalTech.
