  1. 1-2-3 inning for the Angels in the top of the first. I really hope we don't make Ricky Freaking Nolasco look like Cy Freaking Young today.
  2. Funny line, and I'm sure Perk would laugh too. But I somehow feel like being enough of a wet blanket to mention that he's been visible in the dugout, in uniform, mingling with fellow players.
  3. Maybe every minor league system is like this, but it seems like the Twins have a huge backlog of pitchers in the age 25-27 range, languishing in AA or even high-A, very old for their leagues due to injury delay or drafting of elderly college seniors or whatever, where decisions have been deferred and deferred and at some point the FO just has to decide whether they will ever contribute. That's what I see this season as being about. The order of these auditions will be partly determined by 40-man considerations, but it looks like there's a willingness to jettison spare parts that don't look like a fit for anything.
  4. I never realized that I had been spelling Boof!'s name wrong all these years.
  5. Aaron's game against Norfolk on Saturday, June 3, was one to forget. The Tides cut him down to size, getting 12 hits and a walk in only 5 innings, and scoring 2 runs in the first and 3 runs in the third. It was mostly a parade of singles - 4 consecutive ones in the first inning. The only extra-base hits were two doubles later in the game. One of those doubles nearly plated an additional run in the bottom of the fifth, but 1Bman Kennys Vargas relayed a throw from Niko Goodrum in RF to nail a runner for the third out. Let's just move past this ....
  6. His name is pronounced SLAY-gers, with a hard-G I believe, which may help with the spelling of Slegers. And last night's game probably provides the answer to your question. Five runs in five innings, on 12 hits and a walk. He's a legit prospect, but he's not ready yet. Give him time, he's young.
  7. Well, the chicken dinner is going back into the freezer for another day. Good night, all.
  8. Kepler didn't get a good read on that ball, did he? Fabulous diving catch, but a very near thing.
  9. Rosario doesn't have much power. That seemed like about as solidly as he can hit it, and it didn't quite reach the warning track.
  10. In all honesty it was one of the poorer interviews I can recall. The two professionals seemed stuck for questions.
  11. See, that's was I was saying before. You need to give up home runs now and then, so as to keep the bases clear and avoid the grand slam.
  12. Sano looks like a different player on popups than last year. / that is a GOOD thing
  13. He's pretty young, and it's his first taste of AAA. He started the season with a mix of good and very bad games. He's at a streak of 4 consecutive good games now; not all of them would translate to good against major leaguers of course. I would let this sauce simmer a bit longer. Finish June with almost all good starts, and maybe bring him up for July - a little less consistency and maybe August or definitely September.. Simply bringing up minor leaguers who have had a good several weeks strikes me as a panic move. But of course if the coaches at Rochester say he's ready, I'm the last to complain about his promotion.
  14. Nice thing about giving up consecutive taters is that the second one is guaranteed to be solo.
  15. Sometimes the bunt single is the way to go when they leave the base wide open for you.
  16. Fuzzy terms like "par" can lead to disagreement, and I certainly wasn't trying to imply excellence. I was glancing through the Bill James-style game scores on bb-ref.com as a pretty good QnD proxy for actual game-by-game analysis, and it was his only game of the year that ranked just above average at 53. Par's at 50. I was being nice. Had he gotten 1 more out, a 6 inning 2 ER 6 SO outting would have been pretty good - one run better than the Quality Start standard that people love to hate. Needing help for that last out still seems like something to give him credit for. So yes, expectations have fallen that low.
  17. It was a sound like a garbage truck dropped off the Empire State Building.
