  1. Heck of a slice. Where's a golf pro when you need one?
  2. Many of the ones who voted for him did not support him. It was a whipped-up anti-Hillary vote.
  3. E-10. Error on the umpire.
  4. What are the decisions by the scorer that can affect the box score? Off the top of my head I can think of only these - there must be a bunch more: Winning pitcher in case the starter goes less than 5 (your article)Error versus hitError versus extra-base hitPassed ball versus wild pitchDefensive indiffference versus stolen baseRegarding the above list: once errors are recorded, there is no intended latitude regarding earned runs, is there? Likewise RBI? Is there latitude to declare bunt attempts as sacrifice versus trying for a base hit? You get grief from all directions regarding errors/hits. Do any of the other decisions arouse scrutiny? What's the most unexpected complaint you ever got regarding a scoring decision?
  5. Aaron Whitefield, age 20, is having a good season in CF at Cedar Rapids and I believe he is unclaimed. Over at Ft Myers, Chris Paul and Zander Weil catch my eye. Also, Shane Wahl started some pages for prospects simply to give them a start, and if you ask him you can probably take over for one or more players. / edit - I see you mentioned Busenitz elsewhere, and he is available too
  6. Stew passed along to me this summary: Stew Thornley began official scoring in 1981, getting it as a dual job with public-address announcing for a state community college tournament. He began official scoring of Minnesota Twins games for Major League Baseball in 2007 and in 2013 he was named to the Official Scoring Advisory Committee, joining Ron Roth of Cincinnati and Bill Mathews of Tampa Bay. He is also a datacaster for Gameday for mlb.com. There's a lot more to Stew than his work for MLB. Here's an article with interesting tidbits: http://www.startribune.com/twins-official-scorer-he-s-by-the-book-and-yet-a-nonconformist/307320081/
  7. It may be that Granite as 4th OF and Grossman as DH is a better setup than Grossman as 4th OF and Vargas as DH. But 2017 is a sorting-out year, at least in the minds of many here, and Vargas is kind of a marginal case. I believe we need to decide whether to cut bait with him, sooner than later. For that reason, it may be better strategically to delay the wiser tactical choice. If we're seeing the beginnings of a six-week offensive tear by Granite, minds will change quickly.
  8. You're essentially describing the last man on the bench, when a pitcher is eventually sent down, and I think Vargas is a higher priority to be brought up when that happens.
  9. I believe age is important when assessing prospects, but so is experience against good competition. Eddie was signed young, Zach got at least some college. Eddie reached single-A in 2012 and Zach was there in 2014. That additional year, beyond their age differential, gives me more hope for improvement to come for Zach. Call it polish. But I'm talking about bringing him up next year. I'm with you, having him face major league pitchers now would be very unlikely to work out well.
  10. His past three games counting today have been good. His season numbers for Rochester, not so much. I want to see a bit more consistency before he comes up.
  11. It was difficult making out Darius's words, his tongue was so firmly planted in his cheek.
  12. http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_UIXOn06Pz70/R8x77u4gOHI/AAAAAAAACC0/qg_tcZVY858/s800/Roasted+Chicken+Dinner.jpg
  13. Swap Duffey's 7th for Kitzler's 9th? I'd be good with that going forward.
  14. Checking bb-ref.com... um... nope. Never. He's 15 appearances away from the record.
  15. Every CFer makes that play against Cron, but it sure is nice having confidence in our guy to make it a no drama play.
  16. I think he was on record as saying Escobar's the worst player in the history of baseball. Maybe I misunderstood.
  17. It's not above 8 anymore. / 7.91
  18. Esco-bear can thank Bark for the good luck charm today. 3 hits!
  19. He's crippled up. Like David Ortiz last year, if he went solely by what his legs told him, he'd retire.
  20. Belisle in to face Pujols. What could go wrong with such a plan?
  21. Let's not have #601 here, mmkay?
