  1. If FalVine had realized this signing might subject us to the potential of a season full of Suzanne Vega and Song of the South references, they would have said, why bother. / edit - and now Lebowski - read on... / edit^2 - and Stephen Foster checks in...
  2. Norman. Please coordinate. (And, I'm sorry, yes, I confess to taking part in the transformation of a Lucas Duda thread into a Joe Mauer thread. The glazed expression above probably represents my role. )
  3. Yeah, the second mound visit followed by the tapping of a left or right wrist is kabuki theater whose time has passed. "Which wrist will he motion toward, oh which wrist will he motion toward... oh wait, there's a lefty cleanup hitter in the on-deck circle, maybe I can guess."
  4. He's a five-tool admin.
  5. In addition to the strikeouts, I see that he builds his stats on a very low BABIP - .240 last season. Maybe that's a repeatable skill (a few pitchers like Kershaw do seem to be able to stay around .275 year after year), and Wilson's done something under .300 for all but one of his seasons, but I expect some teams are leery of that ability going away without warning. In 2017 when his BABIP was slightly above .300, his OPS-against was .764, which correlates well with his actual ERA of 4.50. Probably all this correlates with the eye-test that scouts file with their teams, too. I dunno, you'd think some team would have room for him, way down on their bullpen depth chart, but there's probably more group-think in the majors these days than ever before.
  6. Up is down, black is white, Facebook posting standards are more stringent than at Twins Daily. I need to go compose myself.
  7. Well said. Cincinnati had to be a tough place for a person of color to get his professional start in the 1950s*, and he got into a scrape or two that I can easily forgive him for, if forgiveness is even the right word. He recovered to have a stellar career and as far as I can tell there were few who had a bad word to say about him as a man. His accomplishments were broad and he left a great legacy - as a player his career WAR ranks 24th and that's as good a shorthand as any - and his influence went far beyond his playing record. Underrated is probably the right word. * OK, as I sift through the list of major league teams, every city was tough in their various ways.
  8. This seems indirect. Is it a comment you'd apply to every prospect, since there's no such thing as a sure thing and yet lots of us attach our hopes? Or, do you have specific concerns about Duran, going as far as likening him to a dead dog? If the latter, would you elaborate?
  9. Moderator's note: Now that the bickering has begun, let me point out that the site's comment policy is specific about this kind of thing as an example of trolling: "contributing one-line comments* that add nothing but question everything". Your observation could be applied equally vacuously to a multitude of articles or forum posts about prospects, or many other topics. If prospect lists aren't your cup of tea, just skip them. In any case, please don't go further down this tangent, everyone. * It's an example - don't think that padding it to 2+ ilnes would make such a post better
  10. If this turns out to be a consequential signing, we're in for an inconsequential season. AAA depth, or "wish you well", either way.
  11. An investigation probably will reveal that Thad Levine leaked the story to the press in order to get his boss fired, so that he can swoop in and take over. I never take this kind of stuff marked Satire seriously anyway.
  12. The marketing guy who decided to do this is no doubt long-dead. But he sits now at the Right Hand of God.
  13. Runs Will Haunt. http://www.hipsterpig.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/04/walks-will-haunt-shirt-669x272.jpg
  14. Moderator's note: This is getting awfully personal again. Mike's reply happened to be gracious. I would hope that's the norm by now, but please don't push it.
  15. I never had particularly strong hopes, and particularly by that point in the off-season, yeah, Perez was unexpected to me.
  16. I don't recall seeing this tidbit before now. If so, I wonder whether the Twins' unexpectedly signing Perez has any connection with it.
  17. C'mon, dream big. Astudillo pitching to Colón.
  18. He was never ranked this highly on the mlb.com rankings when with the Diamondbacks - #20 in 2017, not in the top 30 in 2016 or 2018; their 2019 team rankings don't come out for a couple more weeks. This ranking seems aggressive and a little premature to me.
  19. FTFY. Otherwise Pat Dean counts.
  20. Change the rule on foul balls so that it's four strikes and you're out. That would have sped up at least one game:
  21. "Hi! DIdn't you used to be Jon Heyman?"
  22. "Hi! DIdn't you used to be Sergio Romo?"
