  1. Platoons may be productive if viewed in isolation, but rarely are exciting, and often limit options for roster construction and (ironically) in-game strategy.
  2. My interest is piqued. I'm a member of the Society for American Baseball Research (SABR) - if you know of it at all you might think it to be just a statistical group, but it's more about historical research than anything. They have a Bio Project which aims to fill in the details beyond the numbers regarding major league players. You can have a look at the project at https://sabr.org/bioproject - if you type in names of your father's teammates you'll find several of them have biographies already, and not just the big stars like Carew and Oliva and Blyleven and Bostock but also some of the guys like Disco Dan Ford or Steve Braun or Dave Goltz or Jerry Terrell. It's a not-for-profit undertaking and these are not book-length bios, but they are significantly longer than the quick-start bios at Twins Daily, and go through a vetting/editing process to assure completeness and accuracy. I see that your father passed away about 8 years ago (condolences - I bet you miss him greatly), which removes the possibility of getting first-hand accounts that help fill out a good bio with a bit of "color", but perhaps you have enough memories from the stories he told you to make something like this feasible. This is just a whim on my part this morning based on you popping up like this, but if you are interested in collaborating, send me a note.
  3. Jolly good fun, yes indeed! Thanks for sharing. (The Buxton trade is appalling, the Ryan trade is highly intriguing. Neither one will occur of course.)
  4. Maybe the name of this thread needs to be changed from "Where Are They Now?" to "Who Are They, Again?" 😁
  5. Interesting insight about the 2023 Toronto Blue Jays. 😁
  6. Overstocked On Marginal Corner Outfielders seems like as good a 2026 marketing slogan as any.
  7. I was trying to be cordial to our friendly visitor. 😁 ERod would be on my untouchables list at this point.
  8. That's fine for the Willi Castros of the world - players who have flunked another team's audition. It could be that ERod also flunks. I've long been skeptical of a walk-rate that far exceeds what anyone has maintained as a major leaguer - what becomes of the walks that disappear, strikeouts or meek groundouts or base hits? One way to find out. Playing part-time, especially in response to platoon issues, is a dandy way to minimize his long-term value.
  9. Nice payoff for those who read to the end. Happy Macy's Day everybody!
  10. Good a place as any to add my own best holiday wishes to all the regulars (and the Looky-Lous who read but don't post).
  11. Hopefully the Ohtani rule regarding DH and pitching will apply, because that happens to be the situation when Wallner has been at his best at the plate too. (I hope the coaches help him fix that.)
  12. Somehow Steer got onto somebody's non-tender speculation list, and we had fun with it. I guess?
  13. Yes and if he's up he should play, not sit. Back down he goes he he doesn't perform when he's up - that's what minor league options are for.
  14. Product marketing, which the Veeck family knew how to do and the Twins seem to have in short supply, consists of a whole lot more than just the messaging, and I'll leave it at that.
  15. First he has to beat out the incumbent, Kody Clemens. 🙃
  16. Yeah, that angle certainly resonates. OTOH, think back to when you were 16 - would you give up dating girls your own age without at least a pang of regret? Meh, maybe I'll give him credit for having extreme focus and self-discipline at such a young age. 😁
  17. Promising rookies need to play in a regular role when brought up to the majors, or else play at AAA. Jerking him around day to day is not a recipe for success. Nothing's being handed to someone when the team tries to find out what they've got.
  18. I think everyone you mentioned was a pitcher. Check the line you quoted, again: it specifies position players.
  19. A really good catcher and/or a really good first baseman, both under team control for several years, probably would be a starting point. I won't mention shortstop since you listed de la Cruz as being untouchable. I don't see a good match in the Reds' system. You can never have too much (good) pitching, but the Twins have quite a number of MLB-ready arms who are unproven. The Twins have an oversupply of outfielders on their 40-man to trade from. So hitting at other locations on the field would be of interest. However the Twins don't really have an oversupply of GOOD outfielders, so we're back to wondering why they would be looking to part with ERod in the first place. Now if this becomes part of a really massive makeover, with our two veteran rotation frontliners being dealt away, then replacing them with younger versions would be of interest and the combination you mentioned at the outset could come into play.
  20. Can I interest you in a slightly used Trevor Larnach model instead?
  21. Came here to ask, "and what's the expected number of wins after this PERFECT offseason?" but you ninja'd me by 22 minutes or so. 😁 You picked a number slightly higher than I had in mind.
