  1. Yeah, but we've the Reds' setup man, in Burton. They can just eat their hearts out. And if the Pirates need a #5 starter in this game, well, we've got theirs - too bad for them, no backsies.
  2. LOL, whut? If you're referring to Bert Cueto, whew, that goes back a ways.
  3. Plouffe would have made it look easy.
  4. Bit of a loss of composure, eh? Could kind of see that Martin homerun coming.
  5. I tuned in to it late and only saw his second inning, and the first called strike on Phillips had me muttering that if the umps had given him the outside strike when he was in Minnesota things might have gone differently. But the rest of that AB and the other two, Liriano completely earned.
  6. Someone suggested opening up a game thread for the Pirates-Reds game so we can cheer on some ex-Twins. I didn't do any of Brian's work, but here it is if you want to partake. Reds lineup: Shin-Soo Choo CF Ryan Ludwick LF Joey Votto 1B Brandon Phillips 2B Jay Bruce RF Todd Frazier 3B Zack Cozart SS Ryan Hanigan C (Johnny Cueto P) Pirates lineup: Starling Marte CF Neil Walker LF Andrew McCutchen RF Justin Morneau 3B Marlon Byrd C Pedro Alvarez 1B Russell Martin SS Clint Barmes 2B (Francisco Liriano P)
  7. Speaking only as just one of several moderators: digressions are OK, and if they take on a life of their own then starting new threads would be appropriate. The challenge, on the topic in question, would be to keep the discussion about words and deeds, and not about assumptions and mindreading; as always, this would apply to public figures and fellow posters alike. The site admins get uneasy about asshattery, not about uncomfortable topics if they pertain to the Twins.
  8. It's here: MLB: Five Lessons From 2013 - WSJ.com
  9. What you hate, I guess, is that multiple organizations use the same name for computations that mean very different things.
  10. Mod note: Please don't make posts personal about other posters. Even when provoked by a post that seems to beg for it.
  11. I'm fine with the #5 pick.
  12. The high road. I am still hoping to happen upon it.
  13. An accidental banning.
  14. An accidental banning.
  15. A one-two-three ninth seems a fairly appropriate ending to this season. Better luck next year.
  16. Left side of the infield not looking so good today (Diamond wears his glove there).
  17. Carnac: The #5 pick. Ed: Yadda yadda Carnac: Yadda yadda Ed: And the contents of the hermetically sealed envelope? Carnac: What caused the benching of Christian Ponder in the third quarter?
  18. Carnac: See you next season. Ed: OK, you too. Have fun. Carnac: No no no no no! That's the answer to the question in the envelope. Ed: THAT'S what we've been doing all this time? Carnac: May the fleas of a thousand waiver claims infest your 40-man roster. Ed: Hey-yo! So, now I understand why the cue card says, and the envelope please? Carnac: So, go ahead. Ed: And the envelope, please? Carnac: What will only the ushers and beer vendors say confidently to each other after this game? Ed: Good night, Gracie.
  19. Cubs hold the tiebreaker by virtue of their 2012 record. / maybe virtue isn't quite the right word?
  20. Looking forward to it. The moderation duties should quiet down quite a bit now that there will be nothing to argue feverishly about. And thanks for your contributions here - they've been fun. As, I guess I should add, has been the case with everyone else too. I'm glad everyone got the idea of what Game Thread was about.
  21. The Rally Avatar is a subtle and ineffable power. Not a Get Out Of AAA Free card. / I realize this does nothing to explain Eric Fryer's RBI single
  22. I always go with the large payrolls so I'll guess Angels against Phillies.
  23. Ubaldo Jimenez feels the might of the Rally Avatar.
