  1. Moderator's note: Yes. A review of historical SS choices, or of how the team goes about signing prospects, probably belongs in its own thread by now.
  2. So you are rounding into shape for the season, even as we speak, Chief?
  3. Not many players have worn this number. Must be considered unlucky, or something.
  4. A rare photo of the Twins manager with his uniform number visible in the front: / there's a reason it's rare...unique in fact....
  5. Blaming Florimon for the team's offensive production is like blaming the worst hitter on the team.
  6. You're ready to write off a player who just turned 23 in the off-season?
  7. No Country for Old Catchers, you're saying?
  8. For about a year there, he looked like he might be an answer...
  9. Never heard that quote before. My new favorite.
  10. I'm, uh, glad we reached this agreement of opinion, then.
  11. You WHAT??? I'm gonna go back and delete all my great advice to you, and give it to someone who will appreciate it. / not my children, for example
  12. Ha ha, none of our pitchers got a decision, but one of theirs got a Blown Save.
  13. A subscription to Baseball America costs less than $100. Where there's a will, there's a way.
  14. Quarterback: Dan Smith, BYU
  15. Not a fan of this piece, for the reasons cited already (May? Willingham?? Presley???). OTOH, it's outside the scope of the article to work through all the moves that would be necessary. E.g. if Dozier and Hicks are missing they probably didn't just vanish into thin air and whoever they get might factor into the lineup. This team is easy to forecast at certain obvious positions, but elsewhere it's just a guess.
  16. Is he versatile enough to take up throwing southpaw at his age? Or, maybe you're saying that if Deduno's in the rotation, you want Diamond in the bullpen as his designated reliever?
  17. It's not on the scale you suggest, but you could view the renegotiation of 2014-16 as shifting to more front-loading than if they were to wait to negotiate 2017-18 at something more in the neighborhood of $10M a year. Well, less back-loading, let's call it.
  18. Your points are well taken, but I still have a hard time understanding why nobody will come forward with a critique of a young player like Pinto that is more focused than "everything". "Just work on everything at AAA, and if everything is better we'll call you up, son." I'm an analytic guy; I'm just thirsting for a smidgen more breakdown of the things he needs to work on. Surely some parts of his game behind the plate are OK.
  19. The Pirates are playing the Phillies. That could be an interesting one too. Can you please add their lineups? Looks like it's 4-2 Philly, in the 6th. Manhsip did well in his 4 innings.
  20. News flash: Gibby gave up 3 in the first inning in today's split-squad game. Maybe I wanna hang onto Correia another few weeks....
  21. Spring is a confusing time. I thought the Twins were playing the Yankees, and Hicks was leading off. Oh wait. They are, and he is. Split squad. So. Mistakes can happen in an overly rich environment like that. I don't think it phases anybody. "How come Jeter's wearing a Pirates uniform? Wait, all the Yankees are. And when did they make Steinbach the Twins manager? Oh well, it's a nice day. Where's that beer vendor?"
  22. Works for me. Maybe so. I am just tired of the one-for-two trades in the recent past (Morneau, Liriano, I think at least one other I am temporarily forgetting), and would like to see a two-for-one that represents an upgrade for once. Plugging another team's urgent need while providing them with a legitimate prospect would seem like an opportunity for that. / edit: Revere. That's the other one-for-two trade. I liked the trade at the time - but I would have liked even better Revere plus somebody for somebody else on a par with Meyer. Those guys are hard to pry away on demand, though.
  23. The good part is that the Braves strength in their farm is their pitching. Correia by himself won't return a low-minors stud, but Correia plus1 (say) Kepler? Or maybe even less? Depends on whom the Twins scouts like of course. 1 with apologies to another TD poster whose post I had to delete for other reasons....
