  1. We put our kids to work around 7 - grows 'em up fast.
  2. Oviedo needs to shave. That billygoat beard makes him look about 12. / and not... checking... 32?!?
  3. Took me a second... +1 Internets to you.
  4. Completely ruined his night. He won't be getting much sleep, worrying about the laps he'll have to run in the morning.
  5. If only there was a website where they kept track of such things. / nope, right at league average this year
  6. That's the value of patience at the plate, wear the other team's starter down.
  7. Funny thing: the team giving up the most runs per game over a season often has an above average number of The Pitcher's Best Friend too. I am struggling to come up with an explanation for why this could be.
  8. RE: Santana's catch in the ninth, my favorite TK quote from a spring training (because I have so few): "Let's keep the 360s to a minimum, OK?"
  9. Don't make Snepp go all Infraction on ya.
  10. I didn't get around to saying this before the series, but I found this one an intriguing matchup: two last place teams in their respective divisions who still claimed to have ideas of contending for a wildcard. Likely one of these teams will exit the series no longer believing that, and being in absolute Seller mode heading into the deadline. Here in the 8th inning the odds are pretty high we've identified which team is which. And thank goodness, sez I.
  11. Smells like... something, yeah.
  12. We need some real magic. Your guy isn't getting after it.
  13. What would be Trolling in any other thread is just us yakking when it's a game thread. / NB: when not done to excess... and I'm done here
  14. And as long as it's just between the few of us, I'll add the point that I actually meant to focus on in the first place: despite Colorado's poor showing in the standings, I don't see any rumors that Cuddyer is being shopped for a deadline deal. (He's on the 60-day DL, does that preclude a trade?) Wouldn't it be interesting if both these outfielders get traded and we can add whatever prospect is obtained to the total WAR calculation? But instead it may be that neither one brings anything in return.
  15. That must be b-r.com WAR. On Fangraphs, the total tilts to Cuddy, which I think is appropriate given near equal OPS+ and Willingham's nearly non-existent defense. Cuddy is no defensive whiz either, but at least he would have been willing to "take his talents" to RF, where the Twins had the hole in 2012. Given that the Twins are nowhere near bumping into any financial constraints, I'd rather have Cuddyer even at higher money; part of my delight in signing Willingham was the mistaken assumption the difference would be applied to getting a better starting pitcher that off-season.
  16. Santana talking to himself after misjudging, and barely catching up to, that routine fly by Jennings.
  17. Many of us, myself included, were cackling over the money saved by signing Hammer instead of Cuddy. I for one stopped bringing up this sore subject about a year ago.
  18. I arrived online half an hour late, and found we already have a hit against D Price. Mission Accomplished. And then a band of thunderstorms knocked out my connection to teh intarwebs while I was typing this. Hopefully I have time before the nex~~*#~** FF * NO CARRIER
  19. OPS of 1.818 in the past 3 games. That's a large enough sample size, right? Translates to a MLB OPS of 1.500 or so, I would guess. Question is not when to call him up to the Twins, but whether some higher league will call him up from us.
  20. In fairness the three events are not unrelated. When they couldn't sign Aiken, signing either of the other two would have been from a smaller total pool and would have cost them some drafting rights for next year. So, Close, but no cigar.
  21. My expectation is that Ryan chooses to relinquish the GM role due to his health concerns, and takes an advisory role going forward. I am not enthused with Rob Antony as heir apparent, but maybe he benefitted from the growing-pains in the PR area of the job this spring, otherwise I'd prefer to see a dynamic young assistant GM from another organization come in, preferably with a little more visible tilt toward the analytics POV.
  22. Or, probably (IMO), worse.
  23. Moderator's note: threads that get sidetracked into re-hashing the Bill Smith situation have not trended toward excellence, and we should stick to the topic here.
  24. I'm a pretty big believer in looking at age/level performance. OTOH, I think the method is good only for the big part of the bell curve, and outliers may not be as well served. Someone like Colabello who wasted many years against inferior opponents, or Tomshaw trying to master a difficult pitch (if that is the case) would be examples where a little more patience is warranted, even if the odds of the significant payoff remain low.
  25. You Must Be This Tall To Get This Joke.
