  1. ...if you are satisfied with a Replacement Level Domicile.
  2. It's a fun sign from some enthusiastic fans. I can't see knocking them for that.
  3. In his most recent start at home, McHugh invested time manicuring the mound for several minutes, at least twice in the first three innings, in fact requiring the grounds crew to come out and add dirt and tamp down on the pitching rubber both times. Riveting action, let me tell ya. The opposing pitcher for the Jays, J.A. Happ, didn't seem to be having any such troubles finding his footing that evening, in fact probably had the better game... let's see if the mound is better to Collin's liking tonight, or if Pino maybe happens to fall off of it or drop into an abyss that suddenly opens up beneath him.

    The Game

I appreciate the kind feedback; I had fun too. Just don't promote it to article-hood - it won't be to everyone's taste for one thing, and the derivative aspect of using someone else's writing quite so boldly is funny when it's just a guy's blog but problematic for a full website IMO. 99% of the creativity was from the original author. One prediction: you'll never look at the photo up at the top the same way again.
  6. Agreed. I was in favor of giving Esco-bear more playing time before there was an Eddie 400, and I preferred his upside over that of Florimon to start this season. But, I still think he is likely a utility guy on a good team (or a starter on a bad team), and you described why. Still, I'm in favor of giving him the chance now to prove I underestimated him, but I won't sour on him as a utility player if he comes back to earth under the strain of everyday play. Playing everyday wears you down, and I could see this as his downfall.
  7. The transition started the day they traded Span for a non-MLB-ready pitcher. That seemed obvious to me at the time, and they punctuated it with the trade of Revere. So they showed a few months' more patience, is all. It's been transition ever since. FWIW I think 2014 has been a good one for the transition, all things considered. It's not the front office's fault if people wanted to hear the words "we are now in rebuild mode". Evidently Ryan and Co. tried to avoid the extreme of the Marlins and Astros who have essentially gutted major league rosters at their respective times. Full rebuild has cost the Astros to the extent of a 0.0 Nielsen rating more than once for their games. I can't fault the Twins for wanting to avoid that.
  8. If you really want to combine deals, I think it's simpler to look at the earlier trade as Fuld for Milone+Schafer (via waiver pickup). The A's could probably have had Schafer but apparently preferred the trade, therefore I choose to connect those moves. Trading Correia then stands on its own, though we don't yet know the return.
  9. "My mom has better sideburns than Joe Mauer." Your mom does have better sideburns. I'm not sure who's trolling whom on that one.
  10. And a couple years' better footspeed?
  11. That's a great one. I'll use it in the future as the followup for my favorite about 3 kids: when you go from 2 children to 3, you and your wife have to switch from a man-to-man defense to a zone.
  12. And then the scoop at first base. This might be Mauer's actual debut for 2014.
  13. Parmelee does a good job all things considered, but the RFer in 2016 catches that foul pop.
  14. Did they really say Mauer got an RBI for the second run too?
  15. Took a chance on a deadpan joke, being passive-aggressive in indirect response. Sometimes they backfire.
  16. Mauer! And how many crow-hops did that LFer take, allowing Dozier to grab the extra run?
  17. (Pssst. Everybody. Stop replying to alskntwnsfn's posts, if he's gonna be like that. )
  18. Kershaw? I'm sensing Kershaw.
  19. No point in challenging that play at the plate. Plouffe didn't touch the plate.
  20. I'm not seeing the ads on my mlb.tv feed, but if a commercial makes you ask yourself a question like that, it's a bad commercial. (Unless one paid for by a competitor.)
  21. It's fine. Tommy's got this.
  22. High praise indeed. Shall we reserve a plaque for them in the Broadcasters' Wing of the Hall?
