  1. Straw poll: kraut on the brat? I vote yes. I have heard some disagree though.
  2. Guess you didn't read last night's game thread. Careful about those jinxes. I learned the hard way.
  3. BTW, Mrs Ash agrees with you. Which is why I even need to ask you to bring the cole slaw.
  4. And beer. Don't forget there's beer.
  5. Pain, and can't throw 90? Not good, but something we can look into. No pain, and can't throw 90? Not good, and now what?
  6. FTFY. We don't just sling random characters around here. Dumb @$$.
  7. This isn't the Denny's before-5:30 special, Gramps. We'll eat at a civilized time, like 6:15. Bring the cole slaw, we've got the potato salad and beers.
  8. You better get him on his cellphone and tell him to stop with whatever he's doing there that's jinxing Joe. Have him go buy crabcakes when Joe is up to bat, for instance.
  9. Probably that's it. He's waited all his life to impress Baltimore fans with some magic with the bat. That kind of pressure will get to anyone. He's only human. / we're teasing Gardy, not Joe, in case anyone didn't see that thread
  10. I guess I'll have to fire up the MLB.tv feed so I can wait for a closeup and look into his soul and see if I can see whether everything's all right. I remember the last time, he looked great and he was on a tear. If he's winking and blinking about 10 times before every pitch, shut him down.

  12. I'm hoping for good bratwurst on our grill, shortly.
  13. I think I am mainly in the "marketing failures" camp on this. Some of it is chicken-and-egg. Try listening to ESPN radio for several hours, and wait in vain for any meaningful baseball talk. They carry some games, in-season, but not the "talk" that I want. This is true any month of the year. ESPN has been basically co-opted by the NFL, NBA, NCAA (Football/Basketball) to push their respective products year-round (symbiotic relationships, no doubt). Baseball somehow isn't doing what it takes to get a share of that airtime, probably because it would involve giving up some money. ESPN will (probably correctly) claim they are responding to demand of their listenership; but again that is somewhat circular as with nearly zero attention paid to baseball not much interest gets drummed up. If baseball lags the NFL it's in part due to letting the NFL eat their lunch on things like this. On a recent drive I sat through over an hour of general sports talk on an ESPN radio show in which freaking Johnny Manziel's current freaking status with the freaking Cleveland Browns kept coming up for discussion. I know there are genuine pockets of interest for this, but I could not shake the feeling the topic was being pushed for higher purposes. And I want guys like Trout and Kershaw to be pushed that way too.
  14. I got one of those two, briefly, an hour or so ago.
  15. Yes, already shows on MLB.com's page for the Astros 40-man. (Still on MN's too, but that will surely be corrected soon.)
  16. I feel badly for the Astros fans, as their team is still picking up castoffs from other below-500 teams.
  17. I'm sure a better thread will appear shortly, but I was surprised to find via MLB Trade Rumors that Samuel Deduno was placed on waivers and claimed by the Astros today. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2014/08/astros-claim-sam-deduno-from-twins.html
  18. I think they were two games out of the wildcard going into tonight's game but they do hold their destiny in their hands as they play Pawtucket before it's over.
  19. And Malaysia 370 was doing pretty well until they turned off the transponder.
  20. Bullpen. Let him work some things out there.
  21. Helps that they got it finished in a crisp 2:40, 10 total runs notwithstanding.
  22. Arcia strikes out. Fitting end, just as I get back.
  23. FTFY. / time for dinner, BRB
  24. We're up to that many jinxes?
