  1. Wait, really? If you're not going to make an offer, can you point me to the realtor for that one? I thought those were all gone. Maybe it's a teardown. Have to check it out.
  2. You're not the only one, which coincidentally explains why it takes so much money.
  3. You try living in Oakland and see how much you accomplish.
  4. It costs them 2 bucks in labor to cut that one fillet in half.
  5. A one-man wrecking crew, if any wrecking were actually being done.
  6. What is, um, Gordon Light-hit's Greatest Foot? <shoulders sag in defeat>
  7. Concur. Though he didn't give away much, and if his owner ok'ed the money then I don't care about that.
  8. On #2, Souhan covered my objection by saying don't just give Plouffe away. And while we'd (mostly) all approve of a Span-Meyer kind of deal if offered for Plouffe, I doubt that a league-average 3b draws nearly the trade value of a league-average cf. So if all you're offered for Plouffe is, say one Escobar- or Pressly-caliber prospect, you're nearly giving him away, and we're back to square one. But if Ryan can work some trade magic, say Plouffe plus Pressly for someone with real promise, downgrading to Escobar at third for a while is OK with me.
  9. If 1 strikeout in 41 batters faced is your idea of fun, that is...
  10. With our collective record of jinxes the past couple of days, I'd suggest you not go there. / in the spirit of other posters today, I now see...
  11. Not mentioned above was Vargas, whose rate stats are close to Plouffe's and who actually scored more runs and drove in more runs than him by small margins. I don't care so much for R and RBI for analysis, but for awards like player of the month I enjoy giving credit for the direct result of scoring runs. Nevertheless I'd give it to Plouffe. A month with several fine performances at bat - 7 players with significant playing time OPSing over .800 - but none that blow the doors off (as a month's worth of numbers sometimes can).
  12. Said a (slightly) different way, before they lost to Buffalo the Wings held their fate in their own hands, even if running the table at the end is hard. Now, they must win plus watch the scoreboard. On the more positive note, the Wings won't find themselves backing into the postseason.
  13. I think the other managers will respect Gardenhire and/or Ryan (which to me is the main issue at stake) if every game they put together a representative lineup that includes sensible callups, e.g. when lefty-righty matchups call for it. It's not a winning team so having the nominal "starters" always in the lineup isn't necessarily better. I doubt some obvious metric like "3 callups" would improve anything; moreover the Twins aren't facing all the contenders in equal numbers of games so consistency in numbers won't matter with the teams not being played against.
  14. His (x)FIP numbers in the mid-5's suggest chilling out over a rookie taking some lumps. The situational stats noted in this thread offer things to work on; the swings and misses on his breaking ball looked good to me, maybe he's having trouble disguising those pitches from the stretch. I'd put him in the bullpen and use him frequently in long-relief scenarios for the rest of the season.

  16. Other than he died in 1991 he'd be a splendid choice.
  17. Turns out Mets rally caps don't work. Who knew.
  18. Because RiverBritain will be watching.
  19. Hard to know, there are so few data points to consider.
  20. Ninth inning. Kinda need some rally caps here. http://photos-a.ak.instagram.com/hphotos-ak-xpa1/10358359_589412174490680_1057163220_a.jpg
  21. I was mining comedy gold with that one. Don't question genius.
  22. Carnac: Sauerkraut. Ed: Mmmmm, sauerkraut. Nothing quite as good on a brat. Carnac: Ew. May a deranged waiter spit in your creme brulee. Ed: You just don't know what good eatin' is. Carnac: <gives him a look> I didn't think we were going to bring up that trip to... uh, never mind. Ed: You remain as inscrutable as you are wise, your Magnificence. Carnac: <gives him a look> Not goin' there neither, chum. Ed: Well. Carnac: Well. Ed: Perhaps we should proceed with opening the envelope. Carnac: Perhaps. Ed: <pause> And... Carnac: <puffs into the edge of the envelope> What did Hogan call Colonel Klink behind his back?
  23. I look up lots of stuff after I type. That's why people catch me editing so often.
