  2. http://www.philly.com/philly/blogs/sports/phillies/Phillies-release-Kevin-Slowey.html The Phillies on Tuesday morning released righthander Kevin Slowey, who was in camp as a non-roster invitee and on a minor league deal. ... Slowey, 30, pitched in seven Grapefruit League games, two of which were starts. He allowed 11 runs, nine of which were earned, on 15 hits over 11 2/3 innings.
  3. They are thin in centerfield with Shane Robinson on the 40-man.

  5. Hey, I took the Over on them in Chief's contest.
  6. Sample, you have attacked and mocked the very sanctity of Chief's contest. Well done.
  7. Dammit, Brock, where's that Double-Like button?
  8. If he reaches the majors, does he think he'll be known more for his bat, or his glove?
  9. You have to take into account he's 160 years old. I forget when the peak is for twitter users but he's got to be well into his decline phase.
  10. Hadn't thought to look up how's doing with Cleveland this spring. He's appeared in 9 games. He's pitched 9 innings. He's given up 9 runs; all 9 of them were earned. That's an ERA of 9. I think we may miss his consistency more than we realize.
  11. You should follow this gentleman, if you do not already: https://twitter.com/oldhossradbourn "Service time? Try 4 years in the Army of the Potomac, friend."
  12. Either would be overpaying.
  13. Great trade! (What'd we get?)
  14. They keep saying they want to give the lefty one more look. I think it was always slated for me to be in the bullpen. Can a trade to Twinkie Town be worked out?
  15. (Now that you've dropped "unfathomably stupid" I'll respond.) But where did I say that? I noted he had a poor start. What if it's a close decision and you tell (indirectly) the guys vying for the job that the last start for each will matter. That's not the same thing, is it? Don't you like to give a player a challenge, and give him some negative reinforcement if he comes up short? I have no sources inside the clubhouse but this is one guess. Or even if you don't tell them, if it's close then the last start will matter. But again, I said he had a bad start, and explained some background that might not be apparent from a box score. It didn't deserve being called unfathomably stupid.
  16. Better than nothing, sez I.
  17. Not so. They ran out of arms in the 8th yet the game continued.
  18. Every player has a right to ask the nearest coach, "nothing I did in this game actually counted for anything at all, as far as making impressions goes, did it? I mean, look at the lineup when the game ended."
  19. Tied after 9. Do they play a tenth, or does Molitor send a written note to Farrell, "look, I had freekin' D. J. Johnson in there for the last inning, I got plenty more where that came from but do you really want any of it?"
  20. Video of the last time Plouffe tried to play shortstop here.
  21. OK, I got a little worked up about him in the ninth inning. Now pitching, and failing to improve on the mess Ledezma laid, is D. J. Johnson. Daniel Stuart Johnson. Pitched at Fort Myers last year after being picked up from the Frontier League. I guess this really is a split squad game after all.
  22. Here's one for Halsey to get worked up over: Plouffe is listed as shortstop for the 9th inning. / Oops, misread the gameday line: Plouffe at first base came out when Bernier came in at short.
  23. He throws lefty, he has a pulse, he's not on the 40-man, he had racked up 0.1 spring innings prior to this game. I can't get too worked up.
