    It's clear that, besides the Dodgers, there is no interest in Dozier. And LA is only lukewarm to him - apparently they're just fine looking elsewhere. I'd like to see more than De Leon, but if the Twins want to maximize Dozier's value, I say make the deal. He's not going to have more value at the deadline, and my intuition tells me that 2016 will be his best year as a pro. If the Twins aren't going to sign him to a long-term contract, this is the best that they can do.

    The Twins need to get more than De Leon for Dozier. They are concerned about fan reaction to a trade of their best player after a horrible season. The Dodge know that there are no other serious suitors. They like Dozier, but not so much as to sell the farm for him. There are other teams they could trade with.

    I'm not convinced Dozier gets traded. Maybe it's because I'm not used to the new FO, but I can't see the Twins trading Dozier until the waiver deadline of his last contract year, and at his lowest offensive point.

    Rondell White... the guy who, after starting out terribly as Twins DH, convinced Gardenhire that if he had a defensive position he'd hit some. So Gardy, of course, put Rondell in left field and Jason Tyner at DH. Because, you know, if you're going to have two bad hitters in your lineup you should also roll out your worst defensive alignment. And after all that nonsense in '06, Terry Ryan brought him back. Rondell blew out a hamstring stepping out of the dugout, and the rest is history.

    Hughes? I thought he was recovering from unilateral arm amputation or something.

    The Rule 5 draft is full of guys who have yawn-inducing stats... that's probably why they aren't on their team's 40-man.

    I'm a little bothered by the response about Sano at third. I have my doubts about his defense there as well, but I don't think it would hurt to say "Miguel is going to be given that opportunity" or something to that effect. It sounds to me like we'll be seeing a lot of Escobar and others over there.

    Count me in with the critics. Yes, other teams bring in their former players in similar capacities. But the Twins have been so insular, for so long, that this makes me wonder what has really changed with the new bosses. What I would find more exciting is if Falvey and Levine brought in special instructors who were Indians or Rangers players. The Twins youngsters wouldn't have a preference which team their instructors played for. This isn't for the youngsters, it's for the long-time fans.

    Regarding Dozier, I have a hard time seeing the Twins pulling the trigger. TR is gone, but they are still bringing in the old timers in classic Twins fashion. I think a Dozier extension is more likely than a trade.

    Teflon Joe Vavra dodged another bullet. Not sure what it is he does so well, but why isn't he a manager somewhere by now?

    I was more interested in trying to keep Joe healthy. If it mitigates leg soreness and keeps him in the lineup late in the season, it might also improve his offensive numbers. I'm not too concerned about first base defense.

    I think the Twins should go into 2017 with Mauer as the LH side of a DH platoon. He apparently doesn't have the stamina to play in the field for a full season, judging by Molitor's sparing use of him late.

    So... Falvey is technically still with Cleveland. Who is it then who is targeting this guy?

    To be fair to Pohlad and DSP, I'm sure they delved deep into the media guides to find their guy.

    You could make some subjective arguments to make this crew look slightly better than the 2011 or 1982 versions. Or any of the other terrible teams they've put together. The most objective way to measure a team's historical ineptitude is the win-loss record.

    Maybe not a fantasy scenario, but it's got to be exceedingly rare for any team's "Plan A" rotation to work that well. Fans have been hearing about Ricky Nolasco's career norms for the last three seasons.

    I wouldn't go all-in on 2017... but I also wouldn't count on everything breaking right. One of Santana, Gibson, Santiago, and Berrios will disappoint, and another will be sidelined with injuries. That's what I would plan for.

    Re: Hughes... maybe Ryan couldn't have forseen the shoulder injury, but that doesn't excuse the foolish contract extension.

    Is it fair to speculate on whether Dozier's dingers are 100% natural?

    It's a remarkable run. Maybe next year Dozy can hit some before the team plummets into the irrelevance abyss.

    There's certainly some players who are fair to criticize. That seems to miss the point of the blog, though, because the players weren't the ones who put the team together. And in regards to Sano... assuming that right field is easy, and that Sano didn't take to it because he's fat and lazy... well, the Twins sure changed course on that one. They must have realized that it was a mistake, or else he'd still be clomping around out there.

    Who is the Twins' AAA pitching coach? Can we send Neil Allen down and call up that guy? Seriously though, the Twins need to give serious thought to a new pitching coach. The fact that everybody from Blyleven to Santana and Dick Such was giving him something different to work on tells me that Allen is not communicating well.

    I won't do the research myself, but are we sure that Rosario's declining strike-zone discipline doesn't correlate to his drug of abuse suspension? Maybe he needs the weed.

    Which is why Santana stays. There is no hope that he develops into a good player, so his confidence and development be damned. Or also because Paul Molitor is the world's biggest Danny Santana fan.
