  1. If he does indeed have a lax attitude, I hope Mollie and others have expressed their displeasure with him already, and don't wait to see who shows up in Fort Meyers. Trying to get his attention by having him start 2017 in Rochester would be too late IMHO.
  2. Good Point. I'd really like to know what kind of offers they're getting right now.
  3. With the path cleared for Miguel to handle the hot corner full-time, will he make a commitment this off-season to getting himself in the best shape possible? I know from the documentary,"El Poletero." that he was driven at a young age to overcome his humble beginnings. My fear is that since he has accomplished that, he may lack the drive to reach his full potential. Frankly, I was disappointed with his conditioning last year, and hope we don't see a repeat.
  4. Maybe not too often, but it does happen. Wilson Ramos for Matt Capps?
  5. Though I wouldn't mind if they made a move now, I expect his value would be greater at next July's deadline. Erv has been remarkably consistent over the past decade, and I think the odds favor that will continue into 2017. Right now, everyone who thinks that they need another pitcher has an internal fallback option or two that they hope can step up. Come July and a few games back in the standings, some teams will know that those options aren't realistic. It's amazing what the other guys desperation can do to increase your properties value.
  6. Sorry. Just reread your comment. You weren't referring to the cost, you were talking about wins. Can't disagree. Hopefully someone will be a couple of games back, and desperation will increase their willingness to part with prospects. I guess that's another unpredictable factor in trade negotiations. In December you can always assume that you will have time to fill a hole with a usable piece. In July when looking up in live standings, the need gets much more urgent.
  7. Agreed. That's why I said he would maintain his 'on-field' value. Though in terms of the Dodgers or any other big market team, I'm not sure that 2 years of control @ $15mil, or 1.5 years @ $12mil makes that much difference.
  8. I strongly disagree with some of theses post's about the probability of Dozier regressing if the Twins hang on to him. I'll allow that he's unlikely to blast 42 dingers again, but I expect his overall numbers to increase as a healthy veteran amidst his prime years. It's very reasonable to believe that the line-up around him will offer him greater opportunities to produce runs than he has had in the past. The youngsters as a group, particularly Buxton, Sano, Kepler & Polanco, will mature into consistent offensive threats (perhaps even more.) Their physical tools have been on display since they were drafted or signed, and each has shown a consistent progression through their years in the system. Throw in Rosario, Vargas, Park and even D. Santana and obviously some will suffer setbacks, but as group their overall production will be better, guaranteed. As long as veterans Mauer, Escobar and Castro don't totally tank, a stronger line-up will allow Dozier to maintain his on-field value into next season and the trade deadline.
  9. I really like the idea of trading Santana for an A-list prospect, like Sean Reid-Foley. The Twins could then afford to roll the dice on Brandon McCarthy and the $20mil owed to him in hopes of convincing the Dodgers to sweeten their deal. With the savings from Dozier & Santana's salaries, the Twins would still be $35mil ahead and have a stockpile of very good young arms.
  10. De Leon may prove to be a stud. But the bottom line is that in his three full seasons of professional ball, he's thrown 77, 114 & 103 innings. Last year was shortened due to 'shoulder inflammation.' That's a huge red flag for me. The Twins would be fools not to demand at least one other high upside type in return.
  11. Thanks, mid off-season brainfart on my part.
  12. Engelb Vielma, particularly if Dozier gets dealt.
  13. 'you all' ??? Come on, Dave. Many, many of us have done nothing but post preferences and opinions on the merits of the deal and refrained from leaving any humorous (humorless) or snarky posts at all. I trust the sincerity of your posts in this thread and have eagerly looked forward to updates.
  14. After looking over his numbers, I kind of like Calhoun from the Dodgers as a potential part of the trade. He'll never stick at 2B, but has more than enough bat tom play LF. The guy hardly ever whiffs? What a nice change of pace that would be in Minnesota.
  15. I'm guessing De Leon & Alvarez are set, but the Twins won't give up on Lux. I think they should stick to their guns and see if the Dodgers blink. What's the worst that can happen? We open 2017 with Dozier at 2B and a bunch of question marks on the mound. Even if they get the players they covet, odds are more likely they turn out to be Gomez, Humber & Mulvey than Bonser, Liriano & Nathan. All prospect deals are crapshoots. With no urgency to unload Dozier there is no need to settle for less than they want in return.
  16. I'll bet the Twins are holding out for De Leon, Bellinger and Alvarez. Which is probably why the deal hasn't gone down yet.
  17. I'm more worried about the Palehose and Todd Frazier. They're scooping up prospects like nobody's business.
  18. Personally, I hate the idea of including Stewart. I think we're being unreasonable in our expectations for him. He is progressing just fine. He was up to 143 innings pitched this summer, with almost 100 of them coming in AA during his age 21 season. In 380 career innings, his ERA is under 3.00, he allows less than one hit/inning and has only given up 12 longballs. Yes his strikeout totals are less than desired but according to reports, his 'stuff' is still there. I don't think giving up any legitimate arms would be wise for this organizations future. Regardless of who comes back. The Twins are dealing from strength here. The Dodgers need to wow us if they want him. Otherwise he still slots nicely into our line-up at an affordable price. I do however endorse moving him now. I don't think his value will ever be higher.
  19. Of course, I hope you're right. The proposed Dodger deal would trim about $25mil from our payroll in 2017 alone. That money could be well spent on bullpen depth.
  20. I like Deleon as well. I should have said the Braves are a more realistic trade partner. In addition I am saying that an enthusiastic Brian Dozier adds to his value for the Braves, who clearly appear to be making a statement to their fanbase. Signing two 40+ year old starters was intended as a signal to fans that the Braves want to compete right now. Dozier has the looks, charisma and down-home charm to be an asset in Atlanta outside of the lines, as well as between them as they prepare to christen Sun Trust Field. I don't know if the Braves have an arm comparable to Deleon, but they've got a bunch of really good ones. I think we agree though, that Dozier did the Twins a big favor with his torrid 2nd half. Coupled with Polanco's emergence, Falvey & Co. must explore every potential option for using him to add talent to the staff.
  21. Personally, I think the Braves would be a better trade partner. The signings of Dickey & Colon prove that they want to amp it up quickly as they move into their new digs. Plus, their system is stocked with young arms. Dozier would be thrilled with Atlanta, as it's only about 200 miles from his hometown. Send them an enthusiastic Dozier for the best pair of arms they'd be willing to give up in return. That's the kind of deal we need to make to get this ship righted.
  22. I can see not wanting to trade Dozier after the season he had, but is he locked in at 2B? If Polanco can be considered for 3B, why not Dozier? Brian certainly fits the offensive profile of a third baseman, plus is veteran enough that he could probably handle the position switch better than the youngster.
  23. If they want to go that route, I'd just as soon go with Vielma as a defense first SS for next to no cost. After 2017 if Gordon doesn't look to be the long term solution, we can explore external options then. I just think every resource for next year needs to be spent on pitching and a catcher.
  24. I respectfully disagree. As I said most of the players that I listed offer at least similar production to what Joe has provided, with the potential for much more. I'm not suggesting all or even any of the younger guys will pan out. But a line-up featuring Mauer, will prevent us from giving one or two of them the chance to prove their worth. Once again, his salary is sunk cost. We pay him whether he plays or not. Salary shouldn't trump performance in playing time, but in many cases (especially this one) it does.
  25. Obviously they need to pay him $46mil through 2018, no matter what. Whether it is due to concussion related issues or other physical maladies, there is no arguing his production and skills have seriously diminished. I can't help but think that his AB's could easily be replaced by Vargas, Sano, Park, Kepler, Grossman or even Palka & Walker. Each offer at least similar run production, plus have the potential to be much better than we've seen from Joe over the last three seasons. My concern is that as long as he is in uniform, management will feel obligated to play him in order to justify his expense. I truly can't see the team progressing with him on the roster.
