  1. I'll bet we never see Torii in uniform on an everyday basis again. He may show up as a spring training instructor, even perhaps as a roving minor league coach. But after earning more than $170mil in this game, I doubt he'll feel the need to commit full time to anything, nor should he. Following his son's athletics will be his focus now.
  2. If we're gonna convert 6'4" southpaws into catchers, why not Gonslves?
  3. I'm not disputing Turner's defensive skills, but I'd be hard pressed to believe that he's got anything on Brian Navaretto. I hope whatever catching upgrades the Twins pursue this off-season will not include any long-term commitments. Because unless his offensive keeps him from playing, Navaretto will be a perennial GG candidate in three years.
  4. Anyone heard if Kepler is injured? Perhaps he's just wearing down, but he's struggled the past 10 games or so.
  5. Is it possible that the Umpires interpretation of the rule was not reviewable? Only if he applied the tag or not.
  6. He's 6'3", 185#, when he pitches with his LH. Sorry, ...couldn't resist. Seriously though, my 13-year old is 5'9", 130#. Maybe there is hope for him if Wells is only 5'8" and is that successful against professional (albeit barely professional) hitters.
  7. Stupid Sh*t move! We KNOW his spot will come up again, and now we have Robinson batting clean-up. Yes Sano is not a smart base-runner. But what are the odds it's gonna matter with two outs and Poof up? Slim to none.
  8. That's one of our veteran leaders folks! Four pitch walk to the rook, then you go after a sinker-ballers 1st pitch at the knees for a DP. First move of the off-season has to be to trade that stiff. We will never seriously contend with a .250, 15-20 HR guy in the heart of our order. That's his ceiling folks. Stop kidding yourselves that he's a keeper.
  9. A Especially one who's hitting .111! Is anyone really surprised?
  10. Can we please, please, please move Pukefry to the pen now? I don't care if he's not comfortable in that role. For what, $5mil + per year, he can suck it! He clearly doesn't have the stuff to face the same batters more than once in a game.
  11. Fort Myers, the Twins High-A affiliate, has had a rotation through the shortstop position as well. Goodrum spent time there prior to his promotion, and now Engelb Vielma and Ryan Walker have taken over. Vielma is a 21 year old who has gotten better as he's risen through the Twins farm (.266/.309/.308 in 2015), and Walker was an 18th round pick in 2013 by the Twins (.272/.310/.293 in 2015). Neither posses the peripherals of a major league quality shortstop at this point. You're selling Vielma extremely short. He just turned 21 a month ago and is posting his second consecutive very solid year in full season ball. He has started 84 of the Miracles 102 games at SS and has maintained his .266 BA from last season despite stepping up a level. There is no doubt he has the chops to stick at SS as he progresses. You are quite correct that he is not ready for a big league role at this time. But that is more on account of his bat than his glove. He may be the best defensive option, right now. Bottom line, it would be a waste of resources to target a SS from outside the organization. We won't find one for the middle of the order now that Tulo is gone. It would be best just to decide which of the internal candidates is most capable, bat him 9th and concentrate on getting a productive catcher and bullpen help.
  12. Of course, the frustrating thing about waiting until August is that we're losing games now that we need to win.
  13. Wouldn't be at all surprised if the Twins stand pat. At best, they send a low valued prospect or cash to Atlanta for AJ and perhaps a similar type outlay for another low impact arm for the pen. At best Benoit, but I don't think will get into a bidding war for anyone.
  14. I don't think it matters if Kepler is at AA or AAA. They just need to make sure he plays OF everyday. No more 1B! We're set there. Let him keep raking and building his confidence, then give him a cup of coffee in September. No real reason to make any decisions on him before next spring.
  15. As far as prospects go, we know there is no way they all pan out. The Twins know these players better than anyone. They know who they can trade and who they can't. If a few of them and Gibson or Arcia can bring a Tuliowitzki and/or a Lucroy, then you gotta do it. The well isn't gonna suddenly dry up in the farm system. Only Buxton, Stewart, Gordon & Jay were Top 10 selections. Everyone else came from diligent scouting and development. That ain't changing any time soon for the Twins.
  16. I'd give up Gibson in a heartbeat (along with D. Santana.) I just don't trust Kyle yet. May would slot back into Gibson's spot, with Berrios and Taylor Rogers waiting in the wings if someone falters or gets hurt. Don't forget, this winter is rife with FA starting pitching. A contending team with a pitcher-friendly ballpark could draw some interest when the snowflakes start to fall.
  17. I must admit GM, I'm not into cyber-metrics. Not that I don't believe them. I'm just not very bright. But I assume those numbers essentially add up to an increase in the "R" column on the scoreboard. I've been watching Chattanooga a lot on the MiLB website and Walker doesn't seem to swing out of his shoes like Arcia does. That leads me to believe there is hope for him to reduce his K rate a lttle and appease a few of the nay-sayers. Don't get me started on Oswaldo, though. What a waste.
  18. ABWII started this season in the #7 hole in the batting order. He's worked up to #5 recently. At Cedar Rapids in 2013, he was usually around #5-7. Not sure where he was in the order at Ft. Meyers in 2014. I do know he's leading in the race for his 3rd consecutive RBI Crown, despite not hitting directly behind the table-setters. In his 2012 Rookie league campaign, he finished 4th. The guy is a flat out run producer! A .250 BA and a lot of K's ain't always a bad thing if you're still putting numbers on the board.
  19. Twins go back to their 'old (U of) Kentucky home' for pick at #73, huge RH Kyle Cody or Cody Kyle.
  20. I really think that they just want to let that core gel together for a while. None are old for AA and could form the nucleus for the next several years.
  21. I'm down with Hicks getting another shot, provided he has addressed the issues he was told to address at Rochester. On the surface, things look great. But who knows what Mollie and staff expect him to accomplish? Not me.
  22. Pinto for Vargas? Oliveros for Stauffer, Boyer or Thielbar? Need some pop in the middle of the order and some K's in the 'pen.
  23. Hicks played 4 full season plus his draft year in the minors before he opened with the big club. In those years, he NEVER displayed the talent and dominance that Buxton and Sano exhibited regularly. If they're physically fit and eager to go, there is no reason not to let them develope at the big league level. These are elite talents, and are up to the challenge. Santana - SS Buxton - CF Mauer - 1B Vargas - DH Arcia - RF Plouffe - LF/3B Sano - LF/3B Suzuki - C Dozier - 2B
  24. I'm gonna go completely outside of the box and offer Jim Thome. Liked & respected by everyone, Hall of Fame credentials and spent numerous years in the dugout as DH for a diverse mix of successful skippers like Mike Hargrove, Charlie Manuel, Ozzie Guillen & yes, Ron Gardenhire. I'll bet he could put together a talented staff of supporting coaches from his Rolodex as well.
  25. In a word, Ozzie! Fiery and someone to relate to our young Latino core of prospects.
