  1. I was totally stoked by this until I clicked on the article linked below. A list of the only other prospect duo's since 1990 from the same system and in the BA Top 5. Yes they all became MLB players, but only a few were/are true stars. Link: System Overload - 08.19.13 - SI Vault
  2. On base four times with two extra-base hits, but no runs scored from the leadoff spot. Not as many RBI guys following him in Ft. Meyers, as there were in CR. He did have two assists tonight to show off his ++ arm.
  3. Looks like quite a battle this year for the organizations minor league Player of the Year. I count at least five very viable candidates. Buxton & Sano get all the hype of course, but Colabello, Walker & DJ Hicks can each make a viable case as well. My vote is still wide open.
  4. Curious, because the Braves are said to be on the lookout for a 2Bman with Uggla out of action. Even with his subpar batting average, I think Brian's play of late may have his value at it's premium and the Braves are usually flush with young arms. Even if we need to wait another year for Rosario to be ready, Escobar or a one year pick-up wouldn't be that bad to bridge the gap at 2nd in 2014.
  5. I really see him going to Beantown for one of their pitching prospects. Napoli is trending downward with similar power numbers to Justin, but strikes out a ton! In a perfect world, we eat the salary and get Owens in return. In reality I think there are two or three slightly lower ranked arms in the Bosox system that make a deal worthwhile, with a smaller cash commitment from our end. Hell, I wouldn't be a bit surprised to see us re-sign Morneau in the off-season, even if we deal him now.
  6. Slice it however you want it. The guy's had back to back seasons as a .235 hitter. But hey, at least this year he's got his OB% above .300, at .306. He's a table-setter who's shown no consistent ability to carry the dishes. Unless Rosario's defense is absolute trash, he's next years starting 2B. No question.
  7. Buxton's not in the Fort Myers line-up again today. Did he flick a Booger at Meintkeiwicz or something?
  8. Grilli is 36 years old, with 35 career saves (30 of which occurred this season.) Now he's got a Flexor injury that will sideline him for at least a month. Perkins, with his age, effectiveness & contract status would be a Wet Dream for the Pirates about now. A package with he & Morneau would certainly net us a bountiful return from the Bucs. Glasnow & another solid piece would be my expectation.
  9. I'm not sentimental, but I couldn't imagine missing the births of my kids. That being said, I don't know how I'd feel if we were active in the post-season right now.
  10. Mike Gonzalez back in the Midwest League after spending 2010 & 11 there. Don't think it's rehab, with Hicks & Vargas both at Ft. Meyers. Not to be heartless, but at 25 and having shown limited ability to stay consistent or healthy, it's time to stop taking AB's away from others who still have a chance to develop. Maybe they're just trying to give CR another weapon for the stretch run, with no expectation of him being more than just filler at this point.
  11. 3 hits put Eddie over the .300 mark in AA. I'm starting to think he could pose a serious challenge at 2B in 2014 for the big club. When was the last time we had a real and genuine #2 hitter in our line-up? Early Knoblauch?
  12. I firmly believe that if we could get Castellanos for Perkins, you fall to your knees and thank the maker! At worst he's on par with Arcia, both a rung below Buxton. Plus he's as close to MLB ready as he can be. I'd have no problem at all going into 2014 with Nick, Hicks & Arcia from LF to RF. Let Parmelee, Colabello, Doumit & Willingham slug it out for 1B/DH duties. Clete, Mastro and/or some other ham & egger can handle back-up OF duties. If Sano, Buxton or somebody else starts to push the issue before 2015, what a wonderful dilemma!
  13. I think they blow it up yet this year. Morneau & Perkins gone by the deadline. Willingham, Doumit, Correia & Pelfry by then or in waiver deals. Look for at least one or two potential 2014 regulars to come in return for those previously mentioned. The 2014 off-season will see the Twins make an unprecedented push in the FA market. Top targets will be Phil Hughes & Josh Johnson (if he shows reasonable health for the rest of the way and has a hankering to return home,) and at least one veteran bat, probably in the OF (Carlos Beltran, Hunter Pence or Corey Hart.) Guys like Colabello, Herrman, Beresford, Richardson, Rohlfing & Thomas will be given every opportunity to prove that they can at least fill stop-gap duty until the prime prospects are ready to start filtering in, in late 2014-2016. The only sure things as I see them for opening day are; Hicks - CF Dozier - 2B Plouffe - 3B Parmelee - 1b/OF Arcia - OF Mauer - C Gibson - SP Everything else is up for grabs, as it should be.
  14. At the close of todays games every Twins Farm Team is at .500 or above (some way above.) Bet they haven't been able to claim that this late in a season for a number of years. I'm too lazy to research this, so somebody please correct me if I'm wrong. Of course the big club, ...err, well, let's not go there.
  15. Yes he's 29. But unlike every other 25+ year old in AAA, this is his first crack at it and he's absolutley raking. I don't pretend to know why Colabello was ignored throughout his early/mid 20's. He was a career .317 hitter in 7-years of the CanAm League. But it's clear that whatever was holding him back in scouts eyes, has been resolved. He's hitting better than ever in the highest non-major league level there is. Give the guy his shot! We already know what the other guys can give us, and that leads to last place. What's there to lose? If not, we owe it to him to trade or release him, because someone will have the stones to see what he can do.
  16. How can Gardenhire not see what Doumit's been proving for years, he's not a #3 hitter! Never was, never will be. I don't give a sh*t about pressure on the youngster, Arcia and Doumit should be reversed in the line-up. The fact that Gardy can't realize that, frightens me for this clubs future.
  17. Of course I wouldn't give up Sano or Buxton, but the Twins aren't atop the toughest division in baseball. However if, IF, a bidding war ensues & they become convinced that they need help in the pen and on offense, ...who knows? They do have the luxury of having Marrero right behind Bogaerts on the organizational depth chart. Maybe he's the more likely target. If so, you go after one of their 3-Top 100 pitchers, as well.
  18. Was going from my admittedly spotty memory. Thought he was like 43rd. Probably not. According to MLB.com (the only source I used,) Bogaerts is #19. Obviously others have him higher.
  19. Two more dingers in his first two AB's tonight. Everyone else? 0-12 with a walk & 3-k's. We have no AB's in Minnesota for this guy? Quit letting salary dictate playing time! Willingham & Doumit are ham and eggers at best. Sit them and give Parmelee I Colaabello their AB's. What's the worst that can happen, 4th - 5th place? We're already there.
  20. Not that hard to figure. We traded a top 50 prospect for a worse, potential FA releiver at the deadline ourselves just a few years ago. Boston is loaded with SP prospects and has former first round defensive whiz Deven Marrero nipping right at Xander's heels. Perkins alone might net Marrero & a pitcher. Toss in Morneau, then Bogaerts is a real possiblity, along with a good arm.
  21. Tonkin's emergence over the past year and a half, plus the strong showings from Burton, Thielbar & Pressley make me think the Twins could afford to take the chance in dealing Perkins. It would have to be for a high-upside, or near sure thing, steady type return, though.
  22. Responding to my own question, I'd certainly listen to the Red Sox if Bogaerts name was involved in some fashion. Maybe you could package Morneau, Willingham or Doumit and get one of the Sox many strong pitching candidates as well.
  23. Paraphrasing Olney, 'A bidding war would start' & "Perkins would be the #1 target in the trade market.' Seems like you have to dip your toe in the trade waters, doesn't it? Link:AL Central Notes: Peavy, Perkins, McDonald, Indians: MLB Rumors - MLBTradeRumors.com
  24. He's 30, yes. But unlike the ones you mentioned above, he has no service time. He's got three + years of making the MLB minimum range salary. There's no risk with him, only reward. Even Doumit earns $3.5mil/year through next season. Colabello wouldn't make that over the next 4-years. Unless he really is Roy Hobbs, and they reward him for excellence.
