  1. IF you do the Uggla deal for Willy....you could theoretically keep Revere/Span since you will improve your offense/power enough @ 2B to warrant havin a second base hitting type in Revere in LF. Not that you would, but you could.
  2. I was very weary of him coming into this season as he led his rookie year in BABIP & I thought he'd drop significantly.....he didnt. Worried a little that he hasnt had a 200IP yr yet also as well as the numbers showing he's not much of an improvement in terms of Ks. All said tho, he'd immediately be the teams ace & combined with Kyle Gibson, would be a solid couple youngsters to rebuild with
  3. I brought this up a couple months ago & I stick to it.....Dan Uggla (as well as an obvious pitcher back) takes care of the RH hitter. I am NOT scared off by his 3yr/39m left...esp with Morneau's deal coming off. This team has MLB's weakest middle infield and has for the past decade & refuses to address it. Uggla was an all star last yr but had his worst statistical year.....86runs(2nd worse) 29doubles, 48XBH (worst ever) 19HR 78RBI(both worst ever) 94BB.....these numbers would make him the best hitting middle infielder since Knoblauch. He had an .803OPS on the road as his struggles were in ATL (.656OPS) & mostly June/July. Strong other 4 months. He's been criticized for his defense (rightly so) but was excellent last season as ATL had the best team defense in baseball. We've seen with Willy what can happen when hitters vary from the 'Twins Way' & let them swing for the fences I am available for criticism on this but absolutely would personally love to get him
  4. John, your comment about stuff I dont agree with. No doubt, he's not the strikeout pitcher all of us would like. However, he is a hard thrower...maybe hardest throwing starter the Twins have had since Frankie's 06 season. His 92.8mph FB this season equals his career average with a high of 93.4 in 07. This would be a nice compliment to the softball pitchers we throw out usually. I love that he eats innings, had very good career ERA during his time in Balt (4.12) in a bandbox, & doesnt get hurt. If he is THE top offseason acquisition, dont love it. If he's 2nd best, would like it alot.
  5. Said it often & still believe he'll be dealt this offseason as I have believed that Mn/more so Terry Ryan isnt as high on him as some of the national people. If true, he will have some value this offseason if teams believe his struggles are due to injuries...not by himself but in a multi player deal for a pitcher
  6. In what way is Delmon Young an improvement on the offensive end? Improvement over a pitcher hitting?? Gotta be something!!! How about Gardy bein terrified of DHing him for 5 seasons as Delmon is very close to never carrying a glove again.
  7. I go back & forth on Inge but the 3rd C option is something that I like EXCEPT Inge hasnt caught since 08 (60gms), before that was 04(39gms) & I get the impression that MN would not consider him a C possibility. Fans also get the impression that Brandon is a power hitter cause he has hit HRs but he has only slugged .400 once in the last 6 yrs (.406 in 09). He's a low average, HR only, all or nothing type of hitter. His career .791 OPS vs LHP is what interests me tho (.651 vs RHP). He could be a solid platoon 3B in the right circumstance but Plouffe is a better hitter vs LHP already (.850 career OPS). He would obviously be a massive defensive upgrade tho & by all accounts is a tremendous clubhouse guy.
  8. Haha, so you wanted to sign Buerle to that monster deal in his late thirties? Come on lets get real. Yes the Twins inquired about people, and in a free market, that is all you can do. Lets start throwing stones after the winter meetings people. Don't be pissed off because we didn't trade for Ervin Santana, who is probably well into his 30's for all we know. The Twins tried but often times these deals come back to bite teams in the bum. We sign Joe Mauer long term and people scream bloody murder two years down the road. I guess your damned if you do damned if you don't for the Twins front office (who I may add built a playoff contender for the better part of a decade). How about we do this...overpay for guys on the free agent market because the fans want it. Then the Twins fans will call for the GM's head because said player is way overpaid and should not have been given such a huge contract. Make up your mind fairweather Twins fans. Dont get me wrong, I had absolutely no interest in Buerhle last yr as IMO he's not an ace but an innings eater (is a difference to me). I also wanted nothing to do with Santana at his salary (FA maybe). I believe MN does a couple things. They will 'just' underbid on a player & then blame it on the market OR talk about a team wanting WAY too much in a trade when they knew there was no shot/interest to begin with BUT it makes the fanbase happy. This has been the Twins MO for sometime. I hope they prove me wrong eventually but they have NEVER been a player in FA & I dont expect it this winter either, as the will blame it on the market.
  9. Its 100% the teams record right now, but also that MN would have to 'just normally pay' a star & they wont do this. They dont have to overpay, but just match what the market value is & they wont/havent dont that.
  10. How the Twins inquire Last winter: Mark Buerhle....we'd sign ya for 2 yrs, but you want 3 or 4, at least we inquired This year: Ervin Santana: you gonna trade him or release him....ok we inquired Same with Shields Wont think differently untill they prove me wrong (I WANT to be proven wrong). Shields would be a great asset untill Rick Anderson imposses his 100 pitch limit on him.
  11. first off, the move was inevitable....esp after the Escobar trade but..... Find it funny that we are claiming players (Roenicke) that teams worse than us dont want, BUT one of baseball's best teams this yr finds use in someone that we cannot find time/use for.
  12. ROC now boasts retread starters Nick Blackburn, Sam Deduno, PJ Walters, Cole DeVries, Pedro Hernandez & probably Kyle Gibson & Liam Hendriks. Doesnt bode well for BJ Hermsen or David Bromberg getting to AAA. Hopefully that means they wont sign any more retread pitchers as they've already signed Aaron Thompson & Shairon Martis back also
  13. But their quote on Fields The way I see it, he doesn’t have the glove to make it as a full-time shortstop or the bat to be useful as a utilityman. But at least he’ll fit right in on the Twins. Grade D
  14. I am NOT a fan of this move & hope they outright him to ROC but.... From 08-11,, Roenicke had 8.9K/p for his 69.2IP but with 4.4bb/9 & 5.17ERA. He has had the ability to strike out guys but walks WAY too many but did get his ERA down in COL by not striking out as many. If he is a pen candidate OVER Alex Burnett, I wouldnt be as opposed to Jeff Gray, who provided nothing
  15. Deduno was/is a fringe pitcher for the AL's worst/MLBs 4th worst team, so its no surprise that every team passed on him. He is junk & only able to contribute as a 10th/11th type starter in a messed up season. Glad to hear they outrighted him, meaning they have no plans for him to make the staff out of spring training.
  16. He's obviously a DH only, & the team that may give him a look is Houston, as it moves to the AL. They dont have a diffinitive DH & need to find some improvement on the offensive end. Probably a one year 5m type deal.
  17. Twins kept quiet on Gibson's 3 solid starts but you will hear them reference this bad start for reasoning on why he's not ready yet
  18. Blackburn, DeVries, Gibson, Walters, Hernandez, Hendriks, & possibly Deduno are the AAA starters at the moment. That's enough AAA depth for now.
  19. Id actually prefer them to pass with the money owed to him as well as age....also the non K type of pitcher.
  20. I LOVE Holland and his potential. I predict he's gonna be a future Cy Young type pitcher. Holland has struggled pitching in Arlington (5.34ERA w/ .822OPS) and would flourish in a pitchers park (4.08road ERA .702OPS). I would pretty much allow anything within reason to get him.
  21. I can definately see the pen implode next year outside of Perkins. Burton had his first solid year & history shows how up & down setup guys can be. Fien came out of nowhere to have a solid half-season. Neither to me is a sure thing. The sure thing to me is Duensing....only if he's used correctly & by knowing Gardy/Andy, that wont happen. Gardy/Andy praise Burnett for his ERA while every other stat shows how mediocre he is & has been the 2 yrs previous. Robertson's numbers weren't good but he did dominate lefties & there can be a place for someone like that. Swarzak is a dime a dozen & will battle Deduno for the spot. I cant say it enough, MN needs to find some strikeout pitchers for the pen...preferebly righties. I would love to check out JBroxton, JGrilli and ODotel (who will prob go to a contender). MN wil have to pay for these guys tho.
  22. San Fran has a great manager/pitching coach for one . San Fran starting 5 had 161starts in regular season & they get treated like glass & are allowed to pitch deep into games.....thereby not blowing out their bullpen. Management has sculpted the team according to the park....no power hitters but solid situational hitters. Their star player also actually plays the position he's supposed to.
  23. Not a hater of Capps personally.....therefore I am happy to see him go as I wanted the draft pick last summer badly. However, I also am not a big believer of Wilson Ramose so I dont hate the deal. I though it was a bad trade at the time....very contradictory I know...but it was MN goin for it for the first time & I was cool with that aspect of it. Matt was an all star that summer, so he was legit & Ramos struggled in ROC that whole yr, but it was too high of a prospect to give up. My explanation seems confusing but Ive never been a hater of Capps. There is something to getting rid of Billy Smith's era & getting a fresh start tho.
  24. some of the AAA lineup is already intersting regarding whom they sign as 6yr FAs. Benson/Hicks should be 2 of the 3 starting OFs along with Evan Bigley platooning with Ramirez. Arcia obviously should start also, but Ryan is already talkin like they havent seen enough (real problem is he's only 21..gonna be 22 & organization promotes due to age). Ramirez may just hold down the job till Arcia is up in June. Im not even sure they will allow Benson back to AAA as Ryans not a fan of Joe's IMO. Wont be shocked if he's dealt this offseason. Starting pitching wise....ROC will have Blackburn, DeVries, Hernandez, probably Hendriks & Gibson as the 5th guy/long reliever as Ryan has stated he will start the year in the pen to monitor innings. This means their best AA startere, BJ Hermsen, will be back in AA as he's too young for the organization to trust in AAA. This also goes with the thinking that Deduno makes the big club as the long reliever over Swarzak. Dont see them signin many AAA type retread starters as they already have that type in Blackie.
  25. Manship,Perdomo, Carson & Walters were recalled twice each. Waldrop made the club out of spring training & was recalled twice also. Vazques was their 'prize' Sept recall. Media were praising TRyan for his offseason minor league signings like Gray, Florimon, Vazquez, Walters, Carson, Deduno, Perdomo, etc...... When these guys were placed on waivers, not a single team claimed anybody showing everyone what a talentless group of players they had in the organization, which is why they've had the worst record in the AL & 2nd worst in baseball the past 2 yrs. Keep purging these type of players & sign some real major league talent.
