  1. I guess this must go the same for AJ Pierzynski. Ive never thought that MN fans dont appreciate what AJ did here for 3 yrs.....but he's an arrogant player who takes onfield cheap shots for the Twins #1 rival. Not hard to figure out. Ive always personally hated Torii Hunter more as he left for nothing more than money (but claimed it wasnt) cause he was tired of MN. SO glad he never won anything with ANA
  2. Affordable from Terry Ryan (at least to me....based on the teams history) means players who'll play for a 1 year deal, maybe 2 under the right circumstances Marcum/Jackson are gonna want a 3 yr deal minumum.....Twins have NEVER signed a FA pitcher with that many years & have NEVER traded for a pitcher with that many years remaining (not counting pre-FA pitchers). They are the cheapest team in baseball that has a 90m+ payroll.....this will continue this year. As good as FA went last offseason, nobody got a big deal. They went cheap, but it worked out for the most part
  3. He's the best player on the most hated team in MLB....pretty easy Just because he's booed doesnt mean he's not heavily respected just like booing doesnt have to mean hatred
  4. My other 'sleeper' pitcher who MN will look at is another PITT hurler who was released, Erik Bedard. On the surface, he didnt seem to have that bad a year 24starts 7W 14L 5.01ERA 125.2IP 129hits (.263BAA) 118K (8.5k/9) 56bb (4bb/9) He was a victim of some horrible luck & only a few bad games as I looked at his game logs. April 1W 4L in 5 starts 2.48ERA (no more than 2ER in any start...PITT scored 3runs in 4 losses) 29IP 29hits 26k 12bb May 2W 1L in 5 starts 3.91ERA (one start was 1IP due to rain delay) 23IP 19h 25k 10bb June 1W 3L in 5 starts 6.58ERA (one start 6/14 7ER in 3.1IP....4.77ERA in other 4) 26IP 30h 21K 12bb July 1W 4L in 5 starts 6.49ERA (8er in 4.1IP in last start of month....4.50ERA in other 4) 26.1IP 29h 28k 13bb AUG 2W 2L in 4 starts 5.91ERA (first 2 starts 12IP 7h 3er 11K 4bb....last 2 9.1IP 15h 11er 7k 5bb) 20 starts 108.2IP 99h 44er 3.64ERA 103K 47bb 4 bad starts 17IP 30h 26er 13.76ERA 15k 9bb His 89.4mph fastball was down from 11's 90.8 but he kept up a great K rate with his curveball He made 4.5m last yr but after bein released Aug 28, could be a nice bargain which is what Terry Ryan is looking for
  5. Terry Ryan stated earlier today they wont target big names FA & will sign affordable players.......another 90 loss season is looming
  6. TRyan said this on 1500ESPN this morning but will 'monitor the big names'. No surprise here, so who are the affordable pitchers that the Twins type thinking will go after. Pitt's FA Kevin Correia WILL be one they will at least pursue 32 yr old RH made 3m last yr Over last 4 yrs (w/SD & Pitt each 2yrs) 46W (Twins value the old style stats) 43L 120gms 113starts 668IP (ave 168) 697hits 4.51 NL ERA 423k(5.7/9) 213bb(2.9/9) 90.5mph FB... -.0.7 3 yr WAR one all star appearance in 2011 Holds runners well 31/53 successful (41.5% caught stealing) Twins type of guy......yaaaaayyyyy!!!!! Who else laugh all ya want but they will also target Kevin Millwood as this yrs Marquis, Ortiz, Hernandez, Ponson type. The soon to be 38yr old played for a million last yr in SEA. 28 starts in SEA in 12' 6W 12L 161IP 168hits 4.25ERA 107K (6k/9) 56bb (3.1bb/9) 1.39whip His splits were even outside of Safeco.....4.34ERA on road His 90.2mph fastaball is right at his 90.7 career mark. He will definately help sell some season tix but will be a guy they target DId say the 'bullpen needs too add some people too', so at least they have noticed that also!! Hello resigning Matt Capps
  7. Last 5 yrs Jackson 98 of 158 starts in AL (2 relief) 59W 52L 996IP 1011 hits 4.06ERA 766k 6.9k/9 345bb 3.1bb/9 1.361whip 12.1WAR All Star in Detroit....3postseasons, one WS win 2yrs over 200IP, another @ 199.2IP Like the durability but career low 93.5mph last yr (94.1career)....is he losing the FB slowly or did he ramp it down?? Marcum last 5 yrs ( 07-12 as he missed 09 w/TJ surgery) 81 of 135 starts in AL (13relief) 54W 32L 830IP 474hits 3.67ERA 677k 7.3k/9 240bb 2.6bb/9 1.189whip 12.4WAR one year over 200IP one postseason with MIL Marcum 86.5mph in 12 (87.2career...bout same after TJ) Like both but for comparison Scot Baker from 07-11...5yr 134 starts in 137 appearnaces 55W 37L 821IP 825hits 3.98ERA 676K 7.4k/9 194bb 2.1bb/9 1.24whip 14.4WAR one year with 200IP one postseason appearance 91.0 fastaball mph career
  8. I like Marcum also but with his recent arm/elbow troubles in 12'.....I have zero confidence that the 'new' twins medical staff can rule him healthy enough to warrant a big contract. Really, either one & Id be happy but if its up to me between the 2, Id definately go with Jackson---IF he's not limited by Rick Anderson's pitch count
  9. Minnesota will carry two backup infielders as they do next year. Comes down to.....do you want Eduardo Escobar or Eric Chavez? There is room on the roster. Nobody is saying he's the everyday player......against righthanded pitching. You dont need 13 pitchers if you allow your pitchers to get to 110 pitches rather than the 95 Rick Anderson allows. Got a feeling that was discussed in his re-hiring. Old way isnt working, time to catch up to the other 28teams (COL was inexcuseable). Diamond 8 games over 100 pitches but only one over 102. DeVires 3 times over 100, 7 times in 90s......as bad as the pitching was/is, there is no reason for 13 pitchers.
  10. He's definately a leadoff guy as someone who takes a ton of walks but also will contribute power.....new school type of player but we still run an old fashioned organization, but that will work as Hicks will also steal bases.
  11. Think some people are thinking Chavez as the starter.....NO but he would make a GREAT platoon with Trevor. Im all in on this. There are several glaring weaknesses on this team other than starting pitching & you cannot ignore them & expect to get any better. Chavez crushed lefties this year .298/.365/.543 in 245ABs w/16hr's. He's never hit lefties (even in his prime) & stil cannot (5 singles in 33ABs). Plouffe crushed righties this year .242/.338/.573 in 124ABS w/12hr's. In a platoon, that's over a .900OPS. Chavez is still solid defensively & playing 2/3 of time would allow Plouffe's challenged glove to move around the field in a utlity role again. NY wont offer more than the 900K they did this yr. Double it & you've got a chance as Im sure Chavy would like to see if he can play again. Problem IS....you actually need a manager that understands how to platoon correctly, so MN is screwed. Gardy would play Chavez everyday and say that Chavez 'hangs in there real good vs lefties'. Great move if they have the guts to try.
  12. I pass on Youk, but getting a better option @ 3B is something I like. I am very much in favor of goin after Eric Chavez to platoon with Plouffe. Chavy hit lefties as well as he did in OAK this year & is still a solid defensive player. He cannot hit lefites at all (couldnt in OAK either) but Trevor crushes lefties. Better than having Eduardo Escobar as your 2nd utility guy
  13. He wasn't exactly facing the 27 Yanks in that little 10 game run. 3 NL teams, Oak twice, KC twice, White Sox, Balt and TX. Some good offensive teams in there but a lot of bad lineups, too. TX game was fluky - 6 walks and 5 hits but only 1 run. And it wasn't like he got better in Chicago. Those 10 games were about all that went right for him last year. Absolutely forget about him.....but with MIL & Pitt bein 2 of the 3 NL team.....his only bad teams he faced were CHI-C, & KC, other 7 were contenders & playoff teams. Forget about saying he'll pitch for incentives.....players who arent injured dont do that.
  14. Jackson is the quintisential 'tease' of a pitcher who never quite fullfills his promise BUT is a very reliable workhorse on a year to year basis. Im all for signing him IF he is the 'high' end of pitchers Terry Ryan will look at. There are plenty more I like better, but I definately like him.
  15. YES!!!! He once threw a no hitter for Carlsbad HS and also sports a career 1.00 whip in the majors! better option than Nick Blackburn
  16. Completely get where you're coming from but.....Gibby's total is gonna be his combined number as I believe MN will mistakenly start him in AAA for April/May (which means its possible Gardy never see's him in June). Diamond did do 207 combined innings, Hendriks 191IP and DeVries 157.2....all career highs. Those 2 really show what a joke Rick Anderson has become....he wasnt able to identify Diamond in ST as he was in first cuts & DeVries was their best pitcher in 2nd half, but Andy let Mn send him back down after his first few starts. He also was in the group that kept telling Scot Baker to 'suck it up' & 'let it loose' when he had a torn UCL.
  17. as much as anyone can argue this isnt true.....it is. MN is still running the organization as a small market club doin things like this. You'ld hope, as a fan, that this would be something the club woulda jettisoned.....but they didnt. You CAN run a team with a 100m payroll on the cheap
  18. Only reason that the Twins would be in the bidding for Johnson is cause of his pending FA/arm troubles. MN has NEVER been one to take a chance like this....so it will be interesting if they enter the bidding. What will other teams offer up as a gamble for him. If its one high end prospect (Rosario or Arcia for ex) and a mid-tier (Benson or Hermsen) like ANA did for Grienke....its well worth the shot, even if they want a legit MLB player like Span or Revere. It is a HUGE gamble, but this team has never gone 'all in' & management may want to finally take a shot.
  19. Think too many of us are still thinking the bullpen is fine & we shouldnt spend any money on it in the offseason. They were pretty mediocre when you look at the numbers. 11th in WHIP @ 1.26 13th in OPS @ .691 17th in ERA @ 3.77 20th in BAA @ .246 3th worst in HR's allowed w/57 Last in K/9 @ 6.48 (only team under 7) Team cannot go inhouse with its pen or its doomed in 13'......really need a RH setup guy to join Burton (whom Im not 100% confident will repeat his great 12 campaign)....esp someone who can K hitters. Jason Grilli of Pitt is a FA (12.5K/9 last 2 yrs w/Pitt) Jonathon Broxton is a FA...still throws mid 90s & can close if needed
  20. Ross is an average UZR LF/CF & an above average RF for his career. He is a killer vs LHP .295/.373/.636 in 132ABs this yr & .284/.353/.575 career. If he wants a contender, MN will have to wait him out...dont know if a contender will make him an everyday player as he didnt flourish in SF hitting vs RHP Not one that thinks MN has too many OF's as IF Morneau is traded & Parm goes to 1B....who play/starts the yr in RF??? Twins showed they dont think Arcia is ready by not calling him up in Sept. Could get ready to see Matt Carson as your RF for awhile. This is a poor hitting team outside of Mauer/Willingham (not sure if Willy takes a step back) & MN could use some more pop.
  21. I hope he makes it impossible for MN to start him in AAA next yr.....make his 175IP in 2013 all count in the majors.

  24. Is it just Hicks' age that is goin against him??? Did MN hurt his ranking by not calling him up?? Not sure what a guy can find to not like about a player who was top 25 2 yrs ago....guys like McCutcheon, Maybin etc who struggled in minors didnt slip this far
  25. Are we competing for .500 record/Division Title/World Series??? Im all for goin the OAK/CHI route & deal off Span/Morneau among others. Id like to sign some veteran bench hitters like Eric Chavez & Cody Ross. Release Drew Butera to get that out of the fans thoughts & have Ryan Doumit play a straight up backup C to Mauer. Sign/trade for a minimum of one legit starting middle infielder. Re-sign Scot Baker & unless they implode in spring training....start the season with both Hendriks/Gibson in rotation Dont bring back Deduno or Walters...even to AAA deals
