  1. Give or take.....current 25 man payroll is 75million. Again, Im not a payroll guy....but how its spent..... 10.5m (14%) bein spent on Kevin Correia/Nick Blackburn for one terrible 5th starter. One starter to go???
  2. http://twinsdaily.com/twins-talk/3735-twins-will-seek-affordable-pitchers.html Just saying I predicted this signin on Oct 14th......not that I have any info but I know how cheap Terry Ryan is Very disappointing.......if Gardy is fired this season for another 95 loss season, TR should be right behind
  3. Royals everyday lineup is filled with 6-7 young everyday starters who are stil ascending. They were in a situation were they could take the chance. Twins arent in the same situation with their everyday guys to do a similar deal (Sano/Gibson for ex). Will Myers is the best spectacular prospect in KC since Mike Mostakas and before that Eric Hosmer and before that Alex Gordon....etc. While all 3 are good to above average.....eventually its worth the shot to add a veteran all star at a position that desparately needed it. While trying to go for it....think people forget DET only won the division with 87wins....division is up for the taking On Tampa's side...when you continually develop or acquire top notch young pitching....you can easily flip them for a nice ransom. Hopefully MN gets deep enough to be able to do that.
  4. I dont see KC overvalueing either, they did just overpay for them....something we're dying for TRyan to try ONCE. Both have been 200IP solid mid rotation starters often but getting Shields puts them back into their places.
  5. Montgomery is no longer a top prospect. Orodozzi is no bigger a prospect than what Wade Davis was when he debuted. That's the problem with dealing or recieving prospects....dont know how players will turn out. Look at the Johan trade.....Each of the 4 players recieved coulda been percieved as a top prospect. Sometimes its better to take the 'sure' thing Don't know if I agree with you about the Johan Trade... but believe me... I agree about prospects not always panning out... But I also disagree about Shields and Davis being sure things as well. So in the end... A trade is a trade... The thing that leaps to mind is... the Rays have done it again... They pgrabbed a haul from the Cubs for Garza and now the Royals. I agree... Montgomery has fallen off... He would be our Benson... Still has value in my opinion. I can see this working out for the Royals... But I can see this really working out for the Rays. Maybe it's a deal that ends up being good for both clubs. I was also gonna compare Montgomery to our version of Benson.........there have also been cant miss hitting prospect in Jesus Montero, Dustin Ackley, Domnic Brown, KC's own Mostakas/Hosmer , Dee Gordon etc the past few years. KC has waited 25yrs for a winner & waiting another 5 yrs for Myers/Orodozzi etc woulda been agonizing. They still have OF prospects like Bubba Starling waiting.
  6. Actually the 'full year of service time' is about 2 wks into a year. Then MN will have him for 2 wks short of 7yrs before he'd have FA rights instead of 6yrs. What you may be thinking of is arbitration rights...which is about mid June. But we all fear you are correct
  7. Montgomery is no longer a top prospect. Orodozzi is no bigger a prospect than what Wade Davis was when he debuted. 8. We have been over this, Shields isn't exactly your common #2. The guy has averaged 222 IP each season over the last 6, and of those 6 seasons he has 4 very good ones (close to ACE), 1 meh one, and one bad(read:unlucky) one all in the toughest division in baseball. He's not in the elite class of Ace's with Verlander/Kershaw/King Felix/Sabathia etc but one could make the argument that he is basically just as much of an "ace" as a guy like Grienke. Agree 100%.....personally dont call him an ace but he's everything you'ld want from one & I dont argue with people who do call him an ace. HUGE fan of his
  9. Where is that Picard image when you need it? sorry but there is no guarrantee that myers can/will be any better than Mostakas/Hosmer have been the past 2 yrs or what Gordon/Butler etc did their first couple yrs......Shields is an absolute top of rotation innings eater (didnt say ace tho). They dealt from percieved strength (young hotshot hitter prospect types) to get what they dont have. I love what KC has done this offseason to get their pitching in order.
  10. KC is goin for it. An ace innings eating horse for 2 more years & a draft pick if/when he leaves. No guarrantee on Myers/Orodozzi.....could turn out to be as productive as Hosmer/Moose Well worth it IMO for KC Like it just as well for TB Severely limited financially....deal 10m for 3 players who'll make an impact. Rays already have their innings eating horse for 3 more yrs.
  11. Yeah, Id hate it also if my team dealt for a top of the rotation horse
  12. James Shields & Wade Davis got to KC for Will Myers, Jake Orodozzi & Mike Montgomery. Gotta be good to have a GM willing to take a chance & believe in their moves
  13. unfortunate....but a former MVP & multiple all star may not be enough to get Olt.
  14. Nick Blackburn is the 4th highest paid Twins @ 5.5m Jamey Carroll is the 5th highest paid @ 3.75m Sad If Brian Duensing's arbitration lands under a million.....MN could field an on field team of players with only 7 guys making over a million (no FA signings....Blackburn in AAA)....Doumit, Perk, Burton the other 3
  15. First off, Im 100% a nonpayroll guy but who it's used on......dont spend JUST to spend. That said......The team currently has its current 25 man roster @ 71.5m approx Im 100% positive Ryan will never offer a FA pitcher more than a year. Its his cheap old schooled approach. Twins have 3/5 of rotation set with Diamond, Worley & Hendriks all making the minimum. They will go dumpster diving on 1 yr offers for Lannan, Liriano, Corrieia, etc on low money deal to fill out the rotation......OR will they? His mention of Duensing & Blackburn during his MLB TV interview has me thinking Nick's 5.5m will be given EVERY opportunity to get a spot. Duensing will allow the team to keep all its relievers (currently 8 with 7 spots...but if Brian starts, they dont have to make a decision there). Per Ryan's comments, they wont spend any more on bullpen, or position players (maybe a 3B comp for Trev but that's the 13th roster spot) The 13th position player is irrelevenat to salary as they will be minimum, as will the 4th OF & the utility guy. Twins/Ryan will state 'they made offers to every pitcher (with EJackson/McCarthy we now know is an outright lie) & were rebuffed' but they only made offers that they knew would be turned down as has been their MO during the Ryan yrs. IF this happens, does this bother you or are you fine with rebuilding for 2014?? If that extra $25m were to be used for future, it wouldnt bother me but it will just go into Pohlads pockets, Im sure.
  16. trying to be nice...... but anyone who even suggests that the Twins might sign a longterm free agent pitcher has to be asked "Have you ever followed this team before?" Now to the actual question......Ryan will trade, but not for a pitcher with a longterm deal. What do the Twins have to offer back??? Its not Mauer, so stop with that. Their OF is stacked & they have a 1B already. So while MN might want some of LAs pitchers.....we have nothing but prospect to offer back & I wouldnt for that collection. Now Zach Lee....Id listen
  17. Ryan is ONLY in on pitchers that are willing to take a 1yr deal......nothing more. Ryan will go into 2014 w/ a combo of Worley, Diamond, Hendriks, Gibson, Meyer and/or May. MN wants nothing to do with anyone else making ANY money
  18. As the Twins/Terry Ryan do......they offerred a one year contract & are just waiting for someone to say OK......wasnt gonna be Brandon as that was a very decent contract.
  19. Love the 2 trades but any shot for success for this season will be dimished by having the worst double play combo in the majors. Also wasnt liking Ryan saying Blackburn & Duensing could be in the running for starting spots this yr.....groan
  20. I also think there could be an OF signing....Cody Ross anyone to platoon with Parmelee in RF?? Benson having an underwhelming 2012 is obvious. He is agewise ready for MLB.....at least on a part-time platoon role in RF with Chris/defensive sub for Willingham. I would think Hicks really wont get a true shot in spring training & we'll ride Mastro for 2 months till Hicks is more confortable.
  21. There is a better chance that Sidney Ponson bounces back than Nick Blackburn as its been about as long for both since they were either effective. Ryan does his organization a huge disservice every time he mentions Nick as a possibility for next yr. If he truy believes it, keep quiet till he earns it.
  22. Arcia is closer than Hicks? Man I want more information on these guys. While Arcia looks like a better overall hitter, I thought he still had a loop in his swing or something like that? Or am I misremembering that? Most of what I've read is that both probably aren't quite ready yet, but I thought Hicks was supposedly the best defensive OF (including best arm) in the Twins system, and I can live with struggles at the plate if he plays stellar defense. I just don't know anything about Arcia as a defensive player. Hicks, Buxton & Benson are the 3 best, by far, as all have Gold Glove potential. Arcia has been compared to Jason Kubel---pre knee injury---defensively...if you remember how he was(much more range)
  23. ONLY thing to be afraid of this trade is that Worley just had bone chips removed this offseason & there are people who truly believe (is some info to back it) that TJ surgery chances increase after removeving said chips
  24. For me, Boston is willing to eat ALL the contract makes me listen BUT then it still goes down to getting acceptable value in players/prospects......3-4 of them. If THAT is what Boston will do, lets do it.....if not, thanks but no thanks
  25. May was Philly's #2 guy....now he sliped a tad but I see him at #5 over Arcia (who hasnt cracked top 100s yet) with Meyer 3rd...Hicks 4th. Very very solid top 10 list right now
