  1. Misery loves company, obviously there are a lot of lonely people here.
  2. Butera has far from represented what's wrong with the Twins since he came back up. I'm not a big fan but the team was awful before he got here and they've been slightly less awful in the games he's played since being called up. If you want to blame the Twins for lacking better options than Butera that's fine but that's not Butera's fault, he hasn't hurt the team at all. None of us are on the field but he certainly looks like he provides a steadying influence for Diamond, he came back after that wobbly 4th inning and settled right back in again, his communication with Butera seemed to play a part in that. 14 shutout innings for that battery, I'll take that any day, especially compared to what else we've seen so far.
  3. Yeah, I'm with you, I want them to think long-term as well, it's just the latter part is going to be difficult. Let's hope there are a couple of guys with value by the deadline.
  4. As opposed to, by all means let's do nothing because it's all working so well right now? Anything the Twins try right now would be worth it because almost all of it is broke. The asset in the bullpen protecting 6-2 deficits from becoming 10-2 deficits really has no value.
  5. Absolutely correct in my view, any criticism of Parmelee isn't fair and right now it's increasingly becoming a disservice for him to be up here. I don't understand why people get so out of joint when others suggest Parmelee should go to Rochester, it's not a slight on the guy, it's where he belongs right now so he may have more value later. Everybody seems to forget he's basically straight out of A ball.
  6. Waldrop is bound to factor into the pen at some point this year, no doubt Duensing is valuable right now in relief but there could be alternatives. What exactly is valuable about where he is right now anyway? To prevent us from losing by more runs? It's not like he's had to come in and keep us in many games or better yet protect a lead.
  7. There are 73 good reasons in this thread for why none of us are big league managers. I'm a little league manager, all I need to worry about is having enough sunflower seeds and bubblegum to make the kids happy.
  8. Depends how you define it.
  9. Figured something was up when he pitched 3 full on Wednesday, thought they might be stretching him out. If he can get back to his 2010 numbers it would be welcome, his location and velocity have been great, not that he'll be throwing mid-nineties much as a starter. Sounds like it might just be a contingency plan because they feel something could be wrong with Pavano, I don't think anyone else is going anywhere at this point, not that they shouldn't mind you. I like Duensing, what does everyone think?
  10. Jeff Zimmerman who made the All-Star team with the Rangers in 1999, played for the Goldeyes in '97. He signed as a free agent with Texas the following year and had a good 3 year run.
  11. The Darryl Strawberry Saints of the old Northern League might have beat New Britain.
  12. But he provided proof, didn't you read the link? You have to read between the lines, it clearly proves Joe Vavra has ruined Jamey Carroll. It's kind of like listening to The White album backwards, very cryptic.
  13. Don't speak about that, you'll get AshburyJohn talking about how it's not necessarily a good time to get a hit with RISP. We've heard enough about that.
  14. Yeah you're right, it couldn't possibly be the guys holding the bat.
  15. So who's everybody blaming tonight? Probably Gardy's fault, seems he told the pitching staff to pitch well but forgot to mention to the batters they need to hit the ball. He really should have remembered that.
  16. Come again? That's twice on pitches that aren't even his to hit. Aside from his walk, it's been pathetic tonight.
  17. That's funny to think about, but in a word, no.
  18. How long can we go on with Plouffe? Hutchinson is struggling to consistently find the zone and you go up 1st pitch swinging with men in position, f**k!!
  19. Geez this team gets beat up by the HR, Walters is pitching well but he has to stop hanging that breaking ball so bloody high. If Bautista played here he'd hit 200 HR a year!!!
  20. Only 1 run but it was damn encouraging to see them have some discipline, make the dude throw some damn strikes. Man, Hammer should have pummeled that slider over the plate into the river!
  21. Nope, he was released and he has retired.
  22. Was up in Winnipeg this week and caught a couple of pre-season Goldeyes games against the Saints, pretty entertaining (although that perception may have been aided by the many samples of Fort Garry Breweries new Angry Fish Pilsner, introduced at the park this year). Nonetheless I was impressed with more than a few players, got a charge out of seeing Nick Carr throw the crap out of the ball for an inning, got between 95-98 on the gun a half dozen times, all for strikes. If anybody is ever in town for any reason it is more than worth your while to catch a game at Shaw Park, the best little independent park in baseball, always loads of fun and easy on the wallet.
  23. It was nice the Twins gutted out a win like that, they looked like a team playing for themselves and dare I say, their manager. Blackburn was serviceable, at some point he has to realize he can't get away with pitches like he made to Bautista and Thames, 1 maybe, not 3. Mastro redeemed himself after a terrible SO in the 2nd with runner's aboard. The overall plate discipline was again brutal last night, I was in Canada last night and was watching the Canadian broadcast, they were just amazed that the Jays were still in the game through the 1st 4 innings after the way Drabek pitched. Said they haven't seen a team swing at so many pitches outside the strikezone all year and many of them weren't even close like Plouffe's last SO and both of Dozier's, let alone a number of the bad pitches they made contact with for outs. They correctly commented that a disciplined offensive team would have had Drabek out of that game in the 2nd inning last night. Oh well, it wasn't everyone, Mauer was good at the plate, Carroll drew an important walk and Parmelee's walk after Plouffe's brutal SO was huge. I love the win, I didn't love that they failed to execute again at key points in the game, it must drive Gardy nuts to see good performance almost wasted by not bearing down. The ray of hope is that maybe it's something to build on.
  24. Please is right, I don't know whether Joe Mauer is a good leader any more than you know he's not. All you do is make a bunch of broad stroke stereotypical assumptions. Fans who think they can make character assessments on players and what their intangibles are based on what they see in T.V. or read in the newspaper is ridiculous. Why does Joe have to say something in the press to prove he's a good leader? Who's he proving to, the fans? I'm pretty sure his team mates know what he's all about withnout having to read it in the newspaper. I don't recall a lot being said about Joe's leadership abilities when he was winning the MVP award, but that had nothing to do with the fact he wasn't making 23 million at that point did it? You're basing his leadership abilities on how the team is playing now. Puckett played on some pretty bad teams, where was his leadership then? How come he couldn't will his team to win more games? That notion is farcical. I really don't know, I know he's a good baseball player (or was if you prefer), Puckett was a great baseball player, that's all any of us know about them. You make it sound like you know, you've clearly read some books on leadership and know some fancy buzzwords and phrases, but you don't know, you assume. I don't assume to know anything.
